Most that suffer with IC/Endometriosis suffer with high histamine levels. Most probiotics, chocolate, bone broth, avocado, dairy, tomato sauce and aged meats will be very high in histamine and cause problems. I’ve started freezing all my meat leftovers to slowdown the histamine release.

She is on point on many things but because she is talking and talking non stop, its difficult to understand everything. She needs to slow down a bit. But overall she gives great factual information.

I'm a 55 year-old male dealing with a health issue that I'm not sure is Interstitial Cystitis or a chronic bladder spasm or something else entirely. I have very frequent urination (every few minutes) and penile ache (and a strange stuck-in-an-orgasm type of feeling... very difficult to explain). I take both Lyrica and Amitriptyline and I think it is the latter which helps the most. But it also seems to decrease my sex drive (including that orgasm feeling stated above). On the one hand, great, I find it very annoying anyway (yes, not all men want to have a high sex drive). On the other hand, I'm so used to it that I feel like something is missing. I have been going for pelvic physical therapy for one year (a few weeks ago I was told that my pelvic floor was no longer tight... yet I still have the same symptoms when I stop the medications) and I also tried (to the best of my ability) to alter my diet this past month, eating mostly vegan. Sitting, especially in the car for some reason, really brings on my symptoms. No matter how much I urinate before getting into the car, as soon as I do I have go again and I feel a sort of penile pressure (very unpleasant and very scary). I had a cystoscopy in August 2020 and was told everything looked fine. I now see a different urologist because I was not happy with the first one, in fact, I don't even trust his statement that he didn't see anything wrong. That might sound odd but I think he was enjoying my pain and suffering. You had to be there to understand. In this video it was stated to avoid soy. That is a tough one for me because I don't eat meat but do buy Tofurky products. I also eat dairy-free cheese alternatives such as made by Violife. As for bread, I prefer gluten free, the same with pasta. I almost entirely stay away from tomato sauce and I stopped putting lemon juice in my salads and now I'm just putting a few drops of vinegar to give it a little extra flavor beyond the olive oil. I have been on several drugs to help my bladder and prostate but none of them have helped. Even acupuncture was a dud. I take Prelief when I'm eating. For a few months I watched my oxalates (I no longer eat spinach) but this didn't seem to make a difference. This has been going on for close to two years and has really destroyed my life. Whatever is wrong, to date it has been very hard to corner and defeat. I think a lot about not waking up. I just want it to stop but nothing really helps (outside of the Amitriptyline... which isn't perfect but I'll take what I can get).

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear about all the ups and downs on your journey. You've been through a lot! Glad to hear that you went through pelvic floor physical therapy. That's a great start. Your symptoms sound like you could still benefit from a holistic healing program that brings together multiple approaches: anti-inflammatory eating, mind-body practices to relax your mind and body **and** to rebalance your nervous system (which has been on high-alert due to an extended period of pain), hip/pelvic floor stretching, and gentle strengthening after an appropriate period of time. If this approach resonates with you, check out my 12-week Overcome program. You can get the first week for free, to see if it might be a good fit: overcomepelvicpain.com/for-men Best of luck. You can overcome this in 2022!

Why is soy a problem food in this case? It's listed as a bladder irritant on the IC diet, too. I'm a vegan who has depended upon soy for its higher protein levels but am now experiencing bladder pain. I'd hate to give it up, but I would if I had to. I've researched this a lot, and no one has given me the "why" answer. What is it about soy products that irritates the bladder?
@vibrantpelvichealth
@vibrantpelvichealth 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Peggy! I'll message Jessica and ask her to chime in on this question as well, if she has time. But I can tell you that soy is a food that many individuals have sensitivities to; it can cause an inflammatory reaction (as can other common culprits such as gluten and dairy). Additionally, soy is a phytoestrogen. High soy consumption has the potential to impact your hormone balance, and chronic hormonal imbalance may perpetuate the body’s inflammatory response.

Thank you for your reply, and I also look forward to Jessica's response. I follow Dr. Michael Greger and several other nutritionists who advocate a WFPB diet (Whole Foods plant-based). His debunking of the soy mythology (breast cancer, etc), in addition to my need for more protein (age 66) led to my increase in soy foods. I miss them terribly. They make life a lot easier for vegans seeking slightly higher protein consumption (20% is my goal).

Hi Peggy... what I have seen clinically and in the research is that many women are sensitive to soy. Soy is an interesting food. For many women, it is a good source of protein, and is a useful source of phytoestrogens - to lower excessive estrogen - potentially reducing the risk of cancer in some, and raise functional estrogen - improving vaginal dryness, etc. in others. So, soy - as a food is not "good" or "bad," it's just that for some women it is beneficial and for others, it's not. For those who are sensitive to soy, they can have increased inflammation, pelvic pain, and other chronic pain/ digestive issues. They can have difficulty digesting soy, and thus it can increase digestive inflammation blocking the absorption of needed nutrients. Also, in some women soy functions to be too estrogenic, which can be a problem related to headaches, breast tenderness, cancers, ovarian cysts, etc. For the bladder, it can be inflammatory - again in some women (not all.) Plus, unfortunately nearly all of the soy in the United States is genetically modified, which could cause some issues with the gut microbiome. My suggestion is to eliminate soy from your diet for 3-4 weeks 100% and see how you feel. If your pain is reduced or eliminated (and digestion better, or any other beneficial outcomes), see how you feel when you add it back in after a week or two. That elimination --> rechallenge protocol is really the research gold standard to see if soy is a good food for you (or not.)

Thanks so much for this. I'll try to absorb and digest it all (pun intended, but not really). I've been on a long, long journey with post-menopausal vaginal atrophy, leading to 9 UTIs in 7 months, leading to multiple side effects from antibiotics. Now I have trigonitis and chronic pelvic pain. It's been well over a year, and I'm weary of the search for answers. I was really healthy. Until I wasn't. You've been very helpful.
