When my motor blew up, it windowed the old block. I haven't added up how much it costs, but I mean, in a nutshell, probably close to $4500 for the shortblock. Then, just like you said, the while you're in there upgrades, that is probably where it really adds up. I went with Johnson ST 2116 lifters, new custom cam from LJMS, complete A2W setup in the passenger seat, and a complete Holley Dominator efi. So probably a good $6000 in upgrades. lol Should be real fun though.

Those machine shops must have insane shop rates. Just had my forged 6.0 shortblock freshened up for a similar issue mine was caused from oil starvation due to the oil pan being sucked dry with the 10426 pump and stock F Body Pan combined with hard launches 1.32 60 ft. My WS6 car makes similar power too S480 on 23 psi. My local machine shop charged me 1134 dollars out the door. To turn the crank to .0010 check the line bore install new rings and file them down, also bearings cam degree, hot tanking ect. My heads were fresh 1500 miles and about 10 passes so I didn't have them done. Word of caution when you get your car rolling sub 1.40s to the 60ft, either overfill the engine or get another oil pan. Or go back to a standard volume pump. Beautiful car by the way.

Thank you so much for uploading. I've been racing old-school muscle for several years and switched to imports for about 10 years. now getting back into domestic V8s again. your build cost reminded me why I like domestic V8s. my chevelle build cost me about 10k on motor and trans while my WRX build cost around 25k to achieve 500 AWHP safely. now working on 91 fox GT going with TT set up. again thank you and you got a new Sub.

Done right and professional but I'm a racer and we just don't do that. Our turbo 4.8 we are trying to brake the stock motor record with is making 798/800 on 23.5 psi. We have lost 2 Pistons, pulled the heads, scuff the walls, and threw 2 used rod piston setups in the hole and went 10.1@140 in a full weight single cab truck.. I just threw a rod out the block in 4th gen ws6 with a complete ls3 setup, spent 700 on a iron lq6 6.0 short block. Gapped the stock rings and threw it in. Has over 100 passes on 150 shot and cost me around 1400$ daily driver weekend job, you did great. If your a true racer, you can't spend that money everytike something happens. I've had my motor apart probably 6 times in the past 3 seasons
@Smokin07ram7 жыл бұрын
There are so many guys running a stock bottom end 6.0 making a thousand hp...I just don't see the giant costs. 250,000 mile 6.0 out of a dirty old van/truck, pull it down, clean it all up, pull the pistons, clean up the oil rings and carbon if required, set the ring gap to 25thou, inspect parts for damage, add an oil pump, add a turbo cam and turbo...Then start tuning! LS bores are rarely bad....you can still see the crosshatch perfectly at that mileage. Keep the revs real and you are good to go. I have 20,000 miles on mine...and I drove it like its stolen. 1025 hp on E85...I drive it every day at 800 on pump piss.

On Friday I found out I had to rebuild at least the top end of my 01 gs300. Oil was leaking onto the cylinder head causing it to misfire, compression loss and only 3 cylinders were firing.. The throttle body, tps, and cps all took a crap including the radiator.. At $1998 in parts alone I've gone the route of selling it.. Sucks to see it go, but I bought for $2500. Tried my best to keep it up and running. Ohhhhhh well that's life for ya. I wanted to make it a single turbo sleeper but at 25 years old and the weight of the world on my back it's best to let it go.

I think for what your car is, which I would love to copy with my 01 trans am WS6. I feel like your total and what you have, wasn't that bad? I was guessing a lot more, listening to everything you had done. Wanna say glad to see its back up and running!keep the video's coming!👍🏻 when I bought my 01 trans am WS6 14yrs ago with 78,000miles, 89,000 I blew a hole in the block(both sides)! After pricing a new LS1 motor they ranged, if my memory is correct like 4K up to 6200$ with wiring and everything, which I didn't need. Found a guy sell a new LS1 in the crate with everything in Ohio(I live in pa) got it for 4200$. Sold the extra flywheel,wiring harness, motor mounts, computer, stock manifolds etc. had the local Chevy dealer take the shot motor out, new motor in and that bill was about 2k. So, I think you done well. Now, I did make some cash back selling the new parts I didn't need.

A stock 6.0 crank can handle 1,000 hp but if you didn't want to do that, I bet the crank grind and polish with new bearings is all you needed. If you beat on it until the rods went out of round it would be better to go through everything but it didn't look that bad.

It think that was a fair price... Cost me similar to put forged internals in my RB30 and have the head ported. Then there was $4000 for a proper fuel system, another $3000 for an 850hp capable turbo. Trans was built twice in 6 months, $7500 the first time, $5500 the second time. Then $1500 - $2000 to tune it on the dyno over 5 different sessions. I built the engine myself, installed it all and did my own AN lines for the fuel system. It's damn expensive building fast cars and I'm still left with something that I can only run low 10's in cause I keep breaking the trans on launch at the track, so my 60ft's are terrible. Time for a TH400 and I'll be able to do full boost launches and run that 9 I'm chasing. It's also daily driven... When I go E85 I still have another 20psi left to go with this Garrett turbo (GTX3582R)
@tannerbud34207 жыл бұрын
Daniel Brealey you spend some 30000 and only runs tens. god dammit man. get it together. i like the weird combo though. is it in a patrol?
@danielbrealey29247 жыл бұрын
I don't know where you went to school matey, but I didn't get $30000 there. I can't 60ft properly cause I keep blowing the built Trimatic. It blew 5 times last year... And it's funny when self anointed "experts" weigh in on stuff like this... You own a quick car yourself? You ever been drag racing in anything faster than a 14 second car? LOL!!! Hilarious. Oh yeah, it all just comes SO easily. It's also still very octane limited on shitty pump fuel and can't be turned up past 20psi right now (where it makes about 500rwhp). It either needs E85 or meth injection. I'd like to see YOUR daily driven 10 second car sport... I just dropped my kid off at school in mine, where's YOUR 10 second car? I'll be waiting eagerly. A little bit of knowledge is dangerous, as they say...
@ImKittyCow7 жыл бұрын
Daniel Brealey 4000 for a fuel system wtf?? two walbro 450's in the tank will get you 850 on e85 even and those are $120 a piece, and 120lb injectors are only like $500 (pardon me im only familiar with prices by the 8 cos im domestic)

Nice ride. I had a fox body mustang for the longest time. I was lucky to buy my first one in 2005, which was a one owner, 1987 LX Mustang, 63,xxx original mile, mostly garaged and every part "professionally" installed at the nissan dealership he workes at for $5000 because he had about $8,000+ into this car and back then working at Wal-Mart, I works have never been able to build it the way it was. Not going to list all the parts but it had a 5,xxx mile Gt40 crate motor in it (wish I could post pics). I've always liked the foxes because of the shape, weight, they're cheap and the parts for them are a dime a dozen. Some years later after owning about 3 other foxes and swapping a couple different motors, I ended up buying a vortech supercharged 98 cobra. After that engine started "tapping" I sent it to the shop to be rebuilt and if I would have known the big difference it cost to build the mod motors compared to the old push rod motors, I would have never done it. I could have built two fox body motors for the cost of this mod motor. Worth it? Yes. Would I do it again? No lol. The first time I really realized how much parts were for newer cars (because how would I know if I never needed to look ya know..) was when I bought a 2004 GTO and wanted to buy an exhaust system for it and it was over $1000. A full exhaust kit for a fox body (especially in 2005-2006) was about $400-500. True Story- the supercharged 98 cobra and a fully built (n/a) fox I had about 3 years ago now, both went up in a garage fire. The fox was a total loss except for the block and metal parts (exhaust/suspension) and 3 drag lites and the cobra was an absolute loss except the blower itself which was on a shelf and sisnt get too much fire damagebut the motor I talked about, was luckily in the shop at the time or I would have came out of it with nothing. I didn't get one dollar croon the homeowners insurance or the car insurance but I was lucky to be looking at Craigslist whixh I rarely do and found a 64,xxx mile, 9/10 interior 03 cobra roller that was primered and ready for paint, had subframe connectors, lowered, full bassani cat-back system, built rear end w/ 3.90 gears with Detroit locker and had 18" Fr500s on it with 305s in the rear for $4800. Now I had so.ething to put the 98 motor in. I have the worst luck in the world and rhe car gods hated me ever since I got rid of my first car that I never should have gotten rid of but I ended up with a 800+hp Turbo 03 cobra (which body style I don't really care for but it is a cobra).

@LegitStreetCars7 жыл бұрын
snail5341 It was originally a Kentucky turbo kit like 7 years ago. I've remade everything but the merge to the turbo. It's a comp 88 billet comp wheel and 92mm turbine. t4 mid frame

I fucking love guys with car lifts in there garage but dont know shit about engines and take there cars to "shops" when something is wrong
@Abingy47 жыл бұрын
I forgot every car guy is suppose to know how to completely overhaul (and tune) a 1000+HP car in there garage because they enjoy the luxury of having a lift. Why take it to a professional shop who do builds like this before and can produce consistent reliable power. Maybe it would be a better idea to take a month off work to overhaul your engine to save the $1000 in labour. You are right that makes zero sense.
@matthewmeek42897 жыл бұрын
Could of gotten 10 6.0s a junk yard for $6000 Do the work yourself and have 10 engines that can hold 1000 hp Yeah that makes zero sense ill take my small block to the shop, hate getting my hands dirty using the car lift I have in my garage to pull an engines all day

LegitStreetCars I'm guessing you have a forged crank since you're dropping a lot of money in goodies?
@LegitStreetCars7 жыл бұрын
chevydodge88 Stock crank.
@chevydodge887 жыл бұрын
LegitStreetCars ya I was wondering I've heard people say that the stock crank can handle 1200hp
@martinsmallwood23997 жыл бұрын
randalljames What do you consider reasonable for a LS billet hydraulic roller camshaft? What material do you normally grind your camshafts on? I don't charge any extra because it's a custom grind. I sell 5150 core LS camshafts for 400 dollars and 8620 for 450 dollars. Shipping is also free, which my cost on shipping is 30 dollars. If you consider the quality of the core that Alex received and the fact that shipping is free (30$ freebie) it's very reasonable IMO. BTW, my old 370" made almost 1100rwhp with a stock crank and went 4.98@140 at 3300# race weight.

Looks amazing. I think that's pretty cheap to be honest. Up here I'd have spent close to 10k for everything you got. Did you do a brake conversion on the front?
@LegitStreetCars6 жыл бұрын
Thanks and yes. It's the GEN 1 CTS-V front brake calipers and fifth gen Camaro rotors. I made an install video that's on the channel.

You hardly "blew it up", more like hurt it. Trust me it would have been a lot more money, because not much would have been reusable. nice ride tho. Also curious to what your old cam specs were and what your open spring pressure was with your "old" cam lobe design..
@LegitStreetCars7 жыл бұрын
Tiny turbo Chevelle oh ive melted stuff before. Pistons twice! No bueno tune. it was a 238/242,low 600 lift on a 114+4.The issue was xer lobes. don't remember spring pressure at the moment, I have it written down when I set spring height.It was correct though
@Frank2891007 жыл бұрын
YOU ARE AWARE THAT THE LS IS A REGURGITATED FORD 427 HIGH RISER ENGINE WHICH WAS BASICALLY A RAISED PORT 351 WINDSOR MOTOR. FROM TOP TO BOTTOM THE LS IS 100% FORD.

Coby Smith It weighs 3900lbs but I agree the car should go faster. I was having shifting issues but I'm not one to name excuses. I'll just go back at it and try and go faster. Thanks for watching
@Frank2891007 жыл бұрын
NOT ONLY IS THE LS ALL BASED ON FORD DESIGNS BUT SO IS THE PROSTOCK DRCE, NASCAR SB2 & RO7, 800ci MOUNTAIN MOTORS LABELED AS CHEVY WHICH ARE BOSS 429 DESIGNS AND ALL YOUR SYMMETRICAL HEAD RACE ENGINES LABELED AS CHEVY WHICH ARE ACTUALLY FORD CLEVELAND DESIGNS. NOTHING IN RACING IS CHEVY ANYMORE BECAUSE IT IS ALL FORD BASED IN ORDER TO COMPETE WITH FORD.
