Me too. I think the big flexible pipe is a vacuum truck (for digging). I see two pipes (with buried IO's?). Nothing looks collapsed, but not sure what that should look like. Might be looking right at a collapsed pipe?

As I've said before, lye can work absolutely great, but you have to know what your problem ends up being. It can help break down hair, and it absolutely breaks down fats, but it won't do anything short term for roots, plastics, cellulose items (cloth, paper, feminine items). (Now sold mostly as 'root killer', not 'drain cleaner' for people that like making their own soap) It's also dangerous as heck. Drano is slightly less dangerous, but it still has the same compounds. If you don't know what is happening in your pipes, just use an occasional enzyme drop into your drains. It won't work miracles, but it's a maintenance item. Again, if you don't know what you're doing, do NOT USE LYE. Or any product containing 'Sodium Hydroxide'. (this is different from Sodium hypochlorite or sodium hypochloride. That's bleach)

Gavin...need some info here....was it collapsed? Who's responsibility? When the "Boys" came we are assuming you meant the water/sewer department (Infrastructure). Because this was 'on property', do they back charge the homeowner? Inquiring minds want to know!!!
@plumbob64492 ай бұрын
It looks like it was on the connection point. In our area which is really close to gav , usually council foot the bill. Plumber sends the invoice to the homeowner and the homeowner passes it on to the council, who reimburse the homeowner.

@@plumbob6449 Gavin wasn't real clear here. For where I live it is VERY simple. We own from the house to the street where it connects to a much larger (up to 48" (1.25m) sewer. I know our sanitary we have in my neighborhood is a minimum of 24" (600mm), and it makes it pretty obvious who owns what then.

The problem with chemical drain cleaners is that most of them contain sodium hydroxide as a primary chemical. This is known as 'lye'. Lye is a very caustic (alkaline) chemical, which can cause some rather awful burns. As I posted elsewhere, it works quickly on fats, less quickly on hair (a protein), and very slowly on things such as cellulose (cotton, paper, feminine products), and not at all on most plastics (lot of 'wet wipes', and toys). This is also why they tell you not to use it on a completely blocked drain. Lye has been known to react violently with certain substances and explode out of the drain. The key? If you don't know what kind of problem you have, don't reach for the chemical cleaners. I've used lye over the years, and for the reasons I've used it, it's worked well. (Breaking down where people have poured lots of fatty stuff into the drains, including soaps. Breaking down hair in a 'slow drain' situation, so that it'll come out more easily when sending in the snake. Smells horrible, but so much easier to come out. ) If you don't know how it can react, and you're not prepared for it, don't touch the stuff.
