I was given a non operational Nagant and I was able to restore it after watching a couple of video's that covered assembly and disassembly. It's now a fully functioning firearm. It wasn't hard to do, just sort of a puzzle game.

Soviets had and twist on silencer that was used by their special ops guys. The cartridge, because of the gas seal is surprisingly powerful compared to the other cartridges of the day. The biggest thing, though, is how ridiculously comfortable the grip is.

Yes .32 H&R Mag in it. Works great. Also Sellier & Bellot make it as well. That PPU ammo is sluggish. Originally the revolver ammo was loaded it about 1000-1100 fps.
@christopherreed47236 жыл бұрын
After shooting a friend's Nagant revolver, I've come to several conclusions regarding this firearm: 1) It is the perfect pistol...to keep in a small glass case as a response to anyone who whines about their issue sidearm being "crappy". 2) I'm told the Russians refer to the M91/30 rifle as the "Mosin", as opposed to non-Russians, who call it the "Mosin-Nagant". While the Nagant who helped design the rifle was not the same as the one who designed the pistol (his brother, iirc?), I'm pretty certain this pistol, and it's stirling qualities, is the true reason why the name "Nagant" is omitted. 3) Words are not sufficient to describe the atrociousness of the trigger pull, especially in double action. If invaded by imperialist hordes, I would reccomend strapping the pistol securely to a tree (pointing in the appropriate direction) and pulling the trigger by means of a tractor and a stout length of chain.
@ZoSo19736 жыл бұрын
What people don’t realize is that the PPU ammo is weak as hell. Surplus 7.62x38, which is available and not expensive, gets 1000-1100 fps

Problem with the Nagant's is they were originally a single action design and made into a DA/SA gun and that makes the trigger a horrible 20+ lb pull... This was the same problem with the Colt DA/SA revolvers based on the Single Action Army they made. Now, the Nagant is actually a fun range gun however. It's primary caliber is a bit hard to source at times and costly however it can safely fire .32 S&W Short and .32 S&W Long, however you'd be best served by a jacketed round vs lead round nose as the gas seal causes more friction and atomizes the lead before it leaves the barrel so lead fouling is a problem. It can even shoot .32 H&R Magnum safely as well due to it not only being a shorter cartridge but the gas seal causes a loss of pressure in addition to it being shorter and actually is well within safe operating levels. The Nagant is a rather rugged design and can easily handle it. There were also at a time .32 ACP conversion cylinders out there.

Good video. The only correction I'd make is that the new ammo is low charged. The original military loading (as can be seen in milsurp) is 1,100ft/sec not 750ft/sec like PPU or Fiocchi ammo. Personally I just shoot milsurp for mine but I'm starting to get into PPU to avoid corrosive primers and my local range doesn't allow steel projectiles (another difference between new commercial and milsurp 7.62x38r) on their pistol range backdrop.

I've found that when I shoot it, I don't need to pull out the ejector rod and am usually able to just push the front of the empty casing with my finger which most of the time is enough to push out the empty casing which makes it empty A LOT faster this way. Only sometimes I need to use the ejector rod to push out empty rounds.

Fiocci also makes the occasional batch of 7.62x38R. The original surplus is getting hard to find. Maybe it’s shooting low because the new commercial loadings are substantially lighter than the original Russian load.

@anvior456 жыл бұрын

Is the Reichsrevolver M1883 better than this?
@danielbutka88546 жыл бұрын
The reichsrevolver might be better ballistically, but I would always take the nagant because it's smaller/lighter, double action (though I probably won't use double action unless it's a point blank emergency), and most importantly it has an ejector rod built in.
@superstrongtoa6 жыл бұрын
Daniel Butka would the M1883, the lighter and more compact variant just be as handy as the nagant? Also I heard that the Reichsrevolver was extremely robust, despite the fact it does not have an enjector rod?
@danielbutka88546 жыл бұрын
superstrongtoa The only difference between the 1879 and 1883 is the barrel length. This doesn't change the fact that the reichsrevolver has a massive frame, cylinder, and grip. I don't own a reichsrevolver, but my Nagant is very lightweight and handy.
