Yes, as long as you pay attention to your ends, you can start trimming way less often than they recommend, the 6-12 weeks they recommend should be for damaged hair that is transitioning to thicker healthier hair while maintaining the same length

@kanvaarchana Жыл бұрын
1. Don’t trim as much 2.rosemary doesn’t help 3. Length of the hair depends on health is the hair - strong ends will have the hair grow longer 4. Correct heat styling will grow your hair over air dried hair - straight sleek hair is better 5. Washing hair too much - thrice a week is a lot 6. Wash your hair every 3 days 7. Healthy ends = healthy mids= healthy roots= trinity routine A. Roots ~ shampoo conditioner and clean B.mids ~ lock moisturiser with leave in conditioner after towel drying hair- brush through the hair with detangler C.Ends~ after blow dry use hair oil - few drops in palm and apply only on ends to look polished . Very small amount on mids. - on other days as well.

Curly hair girl here, I was laughing when I read the routine (wash/condition/leave in) because that is what I do just to get my hair manageable. And have for years. I am adding the Olaplex oil on day 2 to my ends. I’ve been drying my hair near my scalp (flipped over) and letting the mid and ends naturally dry. I can go a week. Go slow on the oil because too much is too much. I don’t section my hair to dry because 1) I’m not straightening it and 2) I don’t want to separate my curls too much. I mostly cup my curls and dry. I do put two smaller claw clips on the top of my head so my hair doesn’t dry flat. And yes, I have accidentally gone to the store wearing them. His shampoo and conditioner recommendations have been good for my hair. Not too heavy. I am curly/ wavy when long. 2c when long 3a when shorter. I haven’t found a good gel or cream for definition that doesn’t leave it heavy and/or crunchy. I would love to see a curly video from Chris.

Do you have any advice or should I just keep doing what I’m doing? I have 2c curls. Stopped using heating tools over two years ago when I noticed the scalp pain and smell. This is all fantastic and accurate information. I stumbled across a hair routine just like yours by accident back in 2021. I managed to grow out my hair by 8 inches in a year, and it’s overprocessed with highlights and a base color that’s 2 shades lighter than my natural color. I did have a couple of trims to get rid of the breakage, so now it’s 12 inches longer than when I started. I’ve been 6 months without a trim now, and my stylist showed me how you can still see the line of the last trim, I didn’t need one. My secret weapon turned out to be the Pureology Strength Cure Miracle Filler Spray. I used that as my leave-in and some oil at the ends (Lanza Keratin Healing Oil), and I used a heat protectant when blow-drying (Redken). I also chelated my hair once a month to keep the hard water mineral buildup away. I will try the Pureology Color Fanatic spray, I’ve heard good things about it. But their Strength Cure spray literally saved my hair and gave me the longest hair I’ve ever had in my life. The bar is set high now 😂

Couple points where I must disagree: 1. You CAN train your scalp and hair to stay clean for even a week without heat styling. If you absolutely need heat styling to make your hair look nice, then follow his advice regarding heat protectant and doing it as rarely as possible. But heat styling is NOT a must for going longer between washes. 2. Hair does not need or want "moisture" to be "locked in". Studies have shown that hair which the test group described as "healthy and moisturized" was actually the hair with least water content (and has low porosity). Which makes sense, because hair is not supposed to contain or hold water (note how dreadlocks can mold if they don't dry properly). Healthy hair feels smooth because the cuticles are closed and closed cuticles mean low porosity because they block out the water (and everything else) and protect the hair strand's core. 3. What hair product marketing SHOULD be saying instead of "moisturizing", "nourishing" and "hydrating" = conditioning = literally lubricating the hair. Shampoos are designed to clean the scalp and roots but basically any other product works by coating the hair strands in either a smooth residue (to make it feel smooth, healthy and conditioned and to prevent friction and tangles) or a protective residue (to block out moisture to prevent frizz and to hold your hairstyle, or a heat protectant which "takes the heat" and basically sacrifices itself to save your hair). 4. Once you understand the above, it's actually really easy to see that you don't need a million different products. You need something to get your scalp clean, something to keep your mids and ends friction & tangle free and something extra protective for your ends because they're the oldest part of the hair and been through a lot by the time they reach that point, plus when we brush our hair, the ends get the peak of the force. 5. Lastly, hair is at its weakest when wet so (unless your hair is curly) NEVER brush while it's wet, even to apply products in. Wait until it's dry, then add the products with your hands and fingercombing and then very gently brush it out. Adding products only on dry hair also helps to avoid overdoing it and ending up with too oily, wet-looking ends or mids. When your hair is wet, you don't see or feel how much product there is already. Wholeheartedly agree with these tips from the video: - As many days as possible between washes - Using shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner or de-tangling spray and oil for ends - Not trimming too often (only a micro-trim if you really see lots of split ends that would take too long to weed out one-by-one by yourself, OR a proper trim to straighten out the ends if they're super wispy and thin and look bad) - Avoiding heat as much as possible BONUS TIP which I found out while going through some hair research articles (not the ones on websites promoting their products/ingredients and not women's magazines or anything else commercial): Coconut oil was proven to be helpful, both as a pre-wash treatment and applied post-washing. Coconut oil is able to penetrate the hair shaft and in this case (unlike with water), it's actually doing some good in there. It makes the hair strand's core more flexible which makes it less prone to breakage that occurs when the hair is bent. You're welcome 😘

Leslie has beautiful hair and it's inspiring to see her progress. Chris says growing your hair out is really easy... sounds too good to be true! Although, I've seen some good results since starting his trinity routine in January and I believe it's the best advice I have found for taking care of my hair, I still haven't seen very much length retention and my hair still feels thin. I've been stuck at the same above shoulder length for years and I am doing everything to follow this new healthy hair journey and hoping for growth. I'm also curious how long it took for Leslie to grow her hair out. I'm also confused as to why I can't keep a style. I have natural unrelaxed hair and on wash day I usually blow dry and flat iron but my hair tends to stiffen up and has no flow to it after I sleep on it. I've tried many different methods for preserving the style at night but nothing works. So those are my hair battles!
@EtherealOde Жыл бұрын
May I ask, do you have black hair? My sister-in-law is black, and every night she wraps her hair. It's kind if odd for a white person who never grew up seeing how black women care for their hair. Bit the basics of it is to brush your hair flat, wrapping it around your scalp as you go. she wears different hair wraps depending on if she is doing an overnight oil...a silk scarf, a silk cap, and something my husband calls a "do-rag" and the last is for oiling nights. She puts a shower cap with terrycloth inside over that so the oil had no chance to leak. And you don't have to be black to do this method to keep your hair straight and sleek. Look up the hair wrap for overnight hair protection and see if maybe it can help you? And maybe stop flat-ironing. Let your hair be natural. Look at a lot of natural styles. You can find something you like, I know it! ^_^

@@EtherealOde thanks for the reply. I wore my hair natural for many years without using heat and it broke like crazy. I could never figure out how to keep it moisturized and healthy. I tried every method, watched hundreds of KZbin videos on natural hair and I have a product “graveyard.” Nothing worked for me. In addition I live in a country in Europe where there are no salons for African hair. Well, one that is 3 and half hours away and after visiting once, I realized I do my hair almost as good as she did without paying a fortune. I started to blow dry and occasionally flat iron and my hair grew more than it had when I was using no heat. So, I usually wear straightened styles. I may just blow dry for a time and not flat iron. That’s what I just did this past wash day. I also have have grown up wrapping my hair and protecting at night but even after wrapping my hair it often doesn’t hold the style. I just have issues preserving styles at night. :) I will continue following Chris’ routine for this year and hope for the best. He believes you can have healthy hair and heat style when you have a healthy hair routine.

My sister in law is my hair stylist and she is amazing. Constantly taking classes and workshops and I trust no one else with my hair. I am also trying to grow my hair out and as I’ve gotten older, it doesn’t seem to grow as fast. 2 years ago I asked for a trim (not my SIL) and he took all my hair off. It hasn’t grown past my shoulders since! I just recently went lighter and got a trim and went back for a gloss 7 weeks later and she asked do you want a cut too? Before I could answer she said wait we are tying to grow your hair out, right? So we def will wait until late summer at least. Hearing you say don’t cut for 6 months that makes me so happy to hear. It just proves she is listening and knows what I want (I never had a doubt but nice to hear nonetheless) The one thing I need to do is use less heat. It’s so hard bc my hair never seems to stay the next day. Trying to figure out how to fix it.

I started trying to grow my hair out this fall. Mom insisted I still needed to get trims, but when we went to our stylist, she asked me if she could check it, ran a comb through the ends, and said she was fine with the plan since they were healthy. She’s also been great, picking up the products you recommend at the shop she goes to where she can get her discount and only charging me what she pays. HUGE help, as she can get a large bottle of the Redkin shampoo and conditioner (which she said good call on that) for less than I paid on the smaller bottles from Ulta.

I think your advice is really good - it's very logical, practical and bullshit-free for which I thank you so much. I can see that my hair routine was essentially good apart from the frequency of washes. As I am suffering from PCOS, my scalp (and not not only) gets oily really quickly. I guess it's because I have testosterone sensitivity. I switched from the drugstore shampoos and daily washing to the Redken shampoo you recommend and washing it every second day. It's been a 100% improvement to me (for which I am super grateful) but as you can see, I still don't make it to your standard (wash once every third day the shortest)... It makes me feel sad and very frustrated... I know it's a vicious circle - because I wash my hair so often, they are more fragile. They are super fine by nature which means that they get broken extremely fast. And it's since I remember 😢😢 so I have to trim them every 6-12 weeks to mask the breakage as you said in the video. I so wish I didn't have to because hair is my weak point and the source of complexes since I was little. But it seems that nothing is going to help me :( now I feel I've tried it all your advice included (I follow your advice religiously). Probably because of PCOS, I will always have to wash then every second day the latest and will always have to trim every 6-12 weeks and end up with short hair... I'm sorry for this rant, I just really feel heartbroken now and needed to vent about my situation. Anyway, I truthfully thank you for the good work you're doing, you managed to help millions of people 😊 I appreciate your honesty and great experience

I can say, I grew my hair for over 6 months & when I went in for a root touch up, my (now old) stylist cut off an inch + claiming it needed to come off. I am now growing my hair back out. Next time, I refuse the scissors! I’m also only going to a curly specialist from now on for the same reason. They really thinned out my ends trying to “layer” it which damaged my curls 🥲

I'm currently using the Redken line, leave in spray & the extreme length 😅 (though you don't like it) this routine has been working for me I've seen my hair go past my shoulders to below my collar bone!! 😆❤️ I will add that since I'm a natural type 3c-4a, I need to deep condition bi-weekly & I do protein treatments monthly for the past damage to my ends 😅 Question: How do you feel about deep conditioning and protein treatments? How often would you recommend outside of the salon

If it doesn't work for everyone else but seems to work for you, its more likely to be coincidence than cause. Heres an example, my hair fell out in clumps after I bleached it, and I thought bleach could be the cause; my hairstylist explained that wasn't the case, so it was more likely because I was losing weight.

The past eight months I've gone from hair falling just below my chest, to being afraid it would be chopped off above my collarbone. My hair has always been hell, but I accumulated so much damage despite not having touched a straightener in years. After watching many of your videos and getting the right products and routines down, I already see such a big difference! I have coarse hair and now that my scalp is actually clean, I feel like I could go more than 7 days without washing. Is that something you would recommend? Or would you recommend me doing the hair routine with the bond repair treatment, shampoo, mask and leave-in once every 7 days?

HI Chris - enjoying your videos but want to ask a few things. The derm Dr Dray recently said leaving hair without washing it leaves it prone to dandruff, oil, product and bacteria build up which can cause/worsen scalp problems - what are your views about that? Also, I am based in the UK and following your advice for fine, greasy hair I have tried to get the Redken Big Blowout gel and the Redken Hot Sets 22 spray and the former is permanently out of stock and the latter I understand has been discontinued? What advice can you give to those of us in the UK and other products that are available to us of comparable quality and effectiveness? Many thanks!

He’s said they’re guidelines, but everyone’s different. I watch Dr Dray too! 😊 eg I have a very oily scalp & even following his techniques such as double shampoo, the most I can go is 3 days between washes. If I go any longer, it gets itchy & my eczema/dandruff will flare. So I follow his guidelines on the “trilogy,” plus Nizoral 2% treatment shampoo once a week as well; you just make slight adjustments so it works for your specific goals & needs. 😊

I've noticed most Derms seem to be ok with more frequent washing. I get eczema and my scalp does seem happier with more frequent washing. I have been trying to go the 3 days and have noticed more hair shedding and my scalp isn't super happy. I guess you need to decide what works best for you. I don't use extreme heat (straighteners etc) very often and my hair is in pretty good condition now. I hear you on the products he suggests. I think a lot of people in other countries are having issues with getting Chris' suggested products. An expanded list would be good.

First bleaching highlights destroying my hair, then suggested extensions for more volume. My hair was not getting longer but shorter. You can only imagine the damage to my hair and how much I was paying to destroy it. The lockdowns from the virus - made me realize that I did not need to ruin my hair anymore. I started just leaving it alone only adding toner to take away the harsh color line I had. Since I started photographing my progress my hair is just slightly past my shoulders. When I started my hair was just below my ears. I started in 2020 so it has taken awhile for it to heal.

I started putting end oil on my hair in 1986 and had also gotten a leave in conditioner by mistake when I lived in Japan. I loved both so I continued with them. When I got back to the US, I've used end oil ever since. I washed my hair every single day but it was always very shiny and not very dry. The length at that time was just below my chin as I whacked off my permed ends and went with a straight style. My hair grew down to my butt at one point. However, my hair is extremely fine and now at 60, much thinner than the thin it already was. It's really fine now. I am not washing it daily like I used to. About once a week or even two if I am not going out but once a week. My issue now is that the ends always did get wispy and look bad if I let my hair down so every other year, I'd take off a few inches. The last time I had my hair cut or colored was over 2.5 years ago. I cut around 8 inches off then. I'm still using end oil so I've never had splits. Super rare. But I do get some breakage obviously. I started using a leave in cream conditioner just from my mids down last year. I only blow dry my hair, no flat irons. I only use a curling iron on the top roots to create some semblance of lift, then spray it. However, in the last two years I haven't really been using my iron. I just blow dry, braid it and that's it. I want to try to stop the breakage. My hair is in a braid 24/7 but it's not tight on the roots. I pull it out to loosen that. But I need to keep it up, and a braid is the only thing I know how to do. I'm thinking that I should start using a night time head cover for my hair. I'm also looking into end protective hair buns. If I can learn one, that might be all I need. I'd like to have more body/thickness at the ends if possible. I'm not going to cut it to my shoulders and start over though. Once this cream leave in conditioner by Schwarzkopf is finished, I'm buying the spray on you suggested. Hopefully I can stop the breakage and get more strands to stay long so my ends are fuller. I'm hoping to go to the salon in April for a color and then cut those ends a bit but I want to get it to be lying on the end of my back but have nice ends.
