Only try them during full moon phase. That is when they are full. It's actually quite neat to start at the beginning of a cycle and watch how the pockets of meat ebb and wane as the moon runs its cycle each month.

It depends how hot it is, we caught some in Biloxi and kept them in a cooler for 2 days and didn't lose a crab, that was last November during our Anniversary trip, we just covered them with a wet burlap bag. In the summer when it's very hot we sometimes put ice at the bottom of the cooler and the burlap bag on top of the ice then the crabs. You don't want to let them get to the ice water or else they'll drown.

i was shocked at how much crab prices, in northern va, went up over the years, so for a year i refused to buy them, but my lifelong addiction to blue crab finally took over and i started to buy them for as much as 120 to 150 a dozen (for extra large to jumbo) in gainesvillle va, then found a place that sends them on line, quite tasty but well over 100 a dozen also, then i found a place in oxon hill md, called Captain White’s who were selling live or freshly steamed jumbos for just 69 a dozen. it is a deal compared to the other choices.. but then they raised their price to 79 a dozen, still way better than the others, but they do slip in some medium and large, vs jumbo, but most were jumbo and quite good. but YOU get them for free, other than your time and the cost of some chicken. can you please adopt me and my hubby. we are 58 and 59 years old. lol.

George, we were right in the storm, we just got lucky some of our neighbors still don't have power, none of our trees blew down and no water came into our house even though there was flooding. Cleaning up today outside and maybe in a couple of days we can go crabbing.

Love crab, but probably only person in the world who doesn't like Old Bay. Give me a little crab boil or Tony Chacherres-mild.

Linda I'm sure there's lots of people who don't like it. The best way we ever cooked crabs was when we were catching dungeness crabs in Oregon we boiled them in water right out of the Pacific. Thanks again for Watching

you do throw the females back right
@TheOldCoupleOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
The small ones, the commercial guys keep them all, it's legal in Florida. In some areas it's about 75 percent females, in the St Johns you catch mostly males.
