John Sykes should’ve been a rock god. He wrote and performed on Whitesnake’s fantastic (and huge selling) 1987 album, and then was fired by David Coverdale, along with the rest of the band. Blue Murder’s debut album was killer but then times changed and grunge became “the thing.” Time is the true test and all these years later Sykes’ music holds up strong.
@mattchomo Жыл бұрын
sykes didn't get "grunged"... BMs debut got sidelined by Geffen when Coverversion whined. releasing a 7-minute song as the leadoff track didn't help either... jelly roll was the follow up but mtv slept on it because valley tanked.

Tony Franklin about this: "Jelly Roll “live”, 1989. The music was recorded in a studio a few days before (the TV show wouldn’t let us perform live for some reason!). Vocals are live. The arrangement is different and is exactly how we played it at shows. In hindsight I think it would have been nice for John to go onto electric towards the end so we could solo out! Still cool though. Enjoy!" Needless to say, the vocals are spot on.

One of the most underrated trios in Rock N Roll history. The Blue Murder album was a straight shot to my system. I just had to take it all in totality that he did the music on the Whitrsnake album and a few years later put out another gem. I was and still remain blown away by this man. David Coverdale needs to be ashamed that he was so damn insecure that he booted him and the band before the album came out. He knew John would dwarf him on stage if they ever played live together.

And I saw Tony Franklin live with The Firm both tours in the US great player and I have seen Carmine live with various bands, It was great then still is now.
