Much as I love Snap On tools, you cannot escape the fact that they are greedy. They know people will pay through the nose for the name and warranty. Prices of Snap On products in the UK are getting crazy.

The top shareholders are greedy. If Snap On went private like Cornwell, which is a family owned business, their tools would get much more affordable and their hardworking American workforce would likely still be better paid. Also, the regulatory environment for manufacturing in the US is absolutely horrendous, driving up prices. That’s about to change…

Bought a handful of different tools from Snap On in the UK and I've been consistently disappointed. Dirty, loose, poorly packaged tools at premium prices. PB Swiss / Wera / Knipex - all put Snap On to shame these days IMHO.

That bluepoint 3/8 set is made by Williams. My local Williams dealer sells it for $162.50. They do all the warranty as well. It's about a 30min drive for me. Most of my tools came from this place. They sell Williams, Gearwrench, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Wright, and Proto. Love that place.

all williams taiwan is the same as bluepoint it is a much better deal i just got a set of 3/8 shallow metrics with ratchet 2 extensions and u joint for 50 bucks from blue point it is over 150 bucks

@@The-Homecook-0000 You can say what you want but Williams makes plenty of tools for Snap-on. Including their hard handled screwdrivers which are some of the best screwdrivers ever produced on the face of this earth. Williams is a premium industrial brand known for their robustness and quality. That's why they only have a 36 tooth ratchet because they are immensely strong compared to higher tooth count ratchets. They're not for me as I'm working on cars and trucks so that's why I use proto and gear wrench. Which again I can get new and or warrantied in less than an hour.

That's crazy. I hadn't seen this one when I was shopping for a tiny, portable set, but that price is way too high. I bought the Icon set sitting there in the background, and added a little portable Makita socket set to it, and a separate carrying case. That all totaled about the same as the Wera, but has more tools. The case I'm using gave me lots more carrying options than these plastic boxes.

That Bluepoint bit ratchet case is the same as a similar Bahco set, except the case is blue instead of Bahco orange.

A lot of Bluepoint tools can be bought off Amazon under the Williams brand name for 1/4 to 1/2 the price of the Snap-on truck

Bahco stuff is a good deal but they limit the Bahco range which is annoying Snapon and Bluepoint are overpriced. Simply too much markup and not worth the money Compare a Bluepoint kit to a Bahco kit and they're 2-3x the price for a blue box instead of an orange one

guaranteed both are made in Taiwan. That's where all of these small bit sets are made. Though being that the ratchet and sockets are chrome and not satin like most Taiwanese sets, I wouldn't rule out that it might even be Chinese made. Regardless, clearly a cash grab..

Not the same at all: the tool in the Bahco 2058/S26 kit only has one ratchet at one end and is much shorter.

@@cafecybernz yeah, I said "similar" not "same" SnapOff is usually pretty good at hamstringing Bahco's range to target industrial trade applications but occasionally a gem slips thru eg the Bahco version of the Dual80, which has gone up in price since people cottoned-on

Agreed. I have the Snap On student discount, which gives me Bluepoint at about 50% off. I’ve bought a number of their tools including the popular hex/torx master set. Even at half price, it was mid 200s! Still it’s a nice set and Snap On doesn’t sell a comparable set. Other Bluepoint stuff I’ve gotten is typical yeah you’d expect, but mostly okay quality, comparable to Icon. What’s funny is the brand has gotten so expensive that you are quite literally better off paying for a semester of community college just to get the 1/2 discount! They give you 15k retail worth of tools you can buy, or roughly 7500 of actual money you can spend (I.e. you can buy 7500 worth of tools at half price).

Snap-on tools have always been pricey. Back in the day I was selective in my Snap-on purchases and limited them to sockets and ratchets. I tended to buy more Mac and Matco. At this time Mac and Matco are right up there with Snap-on pricewise. A lot of Mac and Matco's offerings are now made overseas. In this day and age there are so many more options for decent tools at relatively affordable prices than we had 25 years ago.

I was never really a fan of harbor freight, but their tools are better quality than blueprint. I got a set of icon 3/8" sockets for Christmas, they remind me of the USA craftsman sockets. That's a win!!

I have a Bahco 1/4 drive socket set in the same case, and they are actually quite strong....mine has survived a couple of falls and has not broken....yet.

The long and short of it is they know people will buy it. You can get almost identical socket sets from Williams, Bahco, and crown lift trucks for a fraction the price but when a truck shows up every week with all the bright and shiny stuff allowing you to pay $20 a week, chances are you’re gonna go with the more expensive one even if it’s the same thing. Pay over time vs all at once

Keep an eye on the magnet for that ratchet kit, it's only glued on. After buying two repair kits cause mine kept falling off I just leave it off, and install it every time I use it.

i have a craftsman oil filter wrench like that one, i would absolutely buy it again. that blue point is small . the craftsman is barely big enough to do what a certain combine oil filter. i love it, one of my best purchases. my gripe with socket sets. i know they are going to bend me over. would it be to bad to throw in a decent plastic case, with real hinges. my original craftsman case is held together with duct tape hinges and a wood clamp. if i'm going to dump $300 just on a set of 3/8sockets. it needs to have all your sae and metric upto 3/4 inch. i dont work out of a steel toolbox. i work out of a socket set and have a small metal tote, the size of a loaf of bread. craftsman used to do it right. if they would go back to the old style. i would pay more. i'm guessing i have about a 85 piece 6pt set. 38 ratchet with a 1/4 inch adapter and nut driver. it was the perfect set. snapon needs to steal the idea . all the sockets and nothing missing. if i needed a deepwell. i can go back and buy a specialized set

I absolutely live and die by those oil filter pliers, however I didnt know that Lisle manufactures that actual product and sells them for $25 on Amazon. I ordered a blue point seal puller as I saw it for $30, and a coworker has one that built well and made in USA. Once I got it I realized they changed suppliers and now its just the Lisle seal puller you can get for under $15. It seems like Snap On sources BluePoint tools from other manufacturers, laser etches their name or changes the color then marks up the price routinely 3x. I see very little value in the Blue Point line unfortunately

I mostly stopped shopping on the trucks during the 2020-2021 shortage. Im not paying a premium for hand tools i have to wait a month to warranty. Theres too many quality brands out there now. Its not 1995. We dont have to chose between craftsman and snap on.

Blue Point was always the lower cost alternative on the truck. Kind of a better way for starting techs to build up their tool sets. I can't see paying that much in today's market. Other brands, like the Wera, are much better of a value purchase.

I have sold my tool truck tools and replace everything from harbor freight no more dealings with the trucks technicians are not defined by the tools but the knowledge of how to use the tools I've had my shop since my grandfather retired and recently decided to boycott all tool trucks harbor freight has the same lifetime warranty without the hassle of trying to warranty tools from the trucks

Blue point are Taiwan tools Icon are Taiwan tools The only reason Blue Point are looked upon as high value is simply because it is purchased off of a certain truck; though Carlyle and Icon are far superior across their entire respective lines of hand tools.

Snap on is going to become craftsman unless they fix their sales strategy. I just had to remind my snap on truck that their aluminum tape measures still had the snap on logo on it meaning their warranty still applies to it regardless of who makes it for them. They gave me a plastic tape measure now and after using twice it’s garbage too. Flimsy tape that bends and breaks at around 7’. It’s hard to control the tape at 4’. Not impressed
