Just became fully operational in July with my WC/F business. . In 5-6 months I gained 22 customers and just went over 100,000 square feet of treatable area. Only "marketing" I have done is my magnet logos on my truck, professional appearance/uniforms, and quality service (word of mouth). Going to sort out marketing campaign this off season. Hi, can you show us the breakdown of income vs expenses? How much do you spend on gas, marketing materials, business license, business insurance, taxes, etc.

Gas depends on your route density. In a perfect world you would not leave a neighborhood. Equipment does take gas but it’s low compared to towing a rig around.

I just got a snapper 48" for 1400.00 new blades pretty much refurbished. I'm excited I think I made a good deal for it, he had it marked 2100.00. Im aiming for 6-10k lawn neighborhoods. Your videos are super helpful. Thank you.

Just venting while sitting out the latest rain. This business is tougher than looks. Nature runs the show and everyone thinks they know how to cut grass, like everyone thinks they can paint….,.,easy. Because I only will mow a quality cut lawn , no excuses for “wrong”, the challenges come when the schedule falls apart due to rain or the fertilizer guy got there first or the customer wants special scheduling, or it’s dark out, or as one guy I cant get to everything that one day. This morning….we are in the crazy growth period and with 58 lawns, I dont really have much wiggle room…..vent, vent!!!! One thing that does help is that I have had plenty of experience mowing tall wet grass, again it still has to look great, but being able to cut that quality even if it takes longer is what helps me work with nature instead of being crushed. Ok downpour is done, wet on top of last nights drowning rains, I see blue sky and I’m going back out. I will pretty much hate cutting the next 5 lawns today, but at least I got them off the list for another week. Remember “ anybody can do this, the kid next door will only charge $25 bucks😎!!!!!”

2021 is my first full time year, I was to conservative, April 1st was my first day full time, I already had 25 or so regular yards. My mind set was to not take on more than I thought I could do. I missed the mark a little. Good thing is that I survived and known I can do more.

@boomer1049 Those 25 I started with in 21 I had had a while, I had done it part time for several years. When I decided to go in full time I had my truck wrapped and created a business FB page and a Google listing. I've never done anything else. Word of mouth was good and I've never hung 1 door hanger.

Is in the fall, I sometimes blow 1st to blow all the leaves together and off the road . Then I blow one last time time when I'm finished . It takes more time but it looks a lot better . And of course you have to charge a little bit extra.

What I want is find places w large wide open fields to mow. They are easy, and you can make some serious money cutting a 100acre field

Ask your friends what they're paying for lawn care (if they don't mind telling you). This will help you understand the pricing in your area. It's best to stay in that range. If you charge too much, you might not get enough customers. But, if you charge too little, then you will end up with a lot of low quality clients. Also, stress the "one-third rule". It's a win-win situation. The grass will be healthier, your equipment will be healthier, your business will be healthier, and your efficiency will be much better.

You should never base your prices on what the “other guy” charges. You have no idea of their overhead. My overhead is much more then a solo operator running out of his house. If I based my prices on other guys, I would be out of business.

Beware of clients trying to ask you can you do this or that and this or that wasn't included in your original price make sure they know that they have to be charged more no matter if it seems small it's still could be taking up time maybe also using more gas or weed eater line etc and I charge more if a client waits awhile to get next cut some the grass may be much higher so now I have to do more labor also charge more if the yard is very messy with trash or whatever

Get you some good work shoes and go knock on doors 🚪 Introduce yourself let them know you in the area cutting grass and then leave them with a door hanger or a flyer if they let you cut the grass do it dirt cheap for the first cut ✂️

Door hanger advice is bad. Maybe u got robbed( didn’t track guys) We’ve done door hangers last two yrs and have had a 2% + call rate. Ppl respond like crack. U spend 10k and get 100k in new biz in my experience AND super dense routes because YOU pick the streets
