I used to work in IT Managed Services. One of the companies tried to be the cheapest in town which meant they attracted people who didn't value their services. It seemed like there was a customer on the phone every day arguing about money because those are the kind of customers that look for the cheapest service around. Don't be the cheapest. Be the best.

I only have a 21" Honda push mower, a used Kombi with trimmer, & blower, & a Stihl 110 big trimmer, & a Cub Cadet Lawn vac for leaf clean up. I used to push my mower with one hand, & pull a big yard Wagon with the other. All around my small town of about 600 people. Just this summer i bought a used truck, the used Kombi, & the big trimmer. I am consistantly growing my side job, hopefully it becomes my full-time gig. I lost my full-time job due to Covid-19, i ended up turning some yards down this summer I just love mowing.

Yes . Much of my equipment is quality equipment. It’s not the most high end but it is quality not cheap stuff. I bought everything off of offer up and most of it is brand new never used ! Just two days ago my husqurvana blower went out it was a hand me down from my dad . Got on offer up and found a brand new echo blower for 250 brand new! Worth 370 from the big box store! I’m able to afford brand new but rather save some cash! It’s working like a champ! New video on it coming tomorrow

I have been in the lawn mowing business now for well over 30 years,and my advice to anyone is that you have to spend money to make money.like better weedeater's,better lawn mowers better leaf blowers.i mean really good reliable things,because you are not going out and mowing only once a week with these things you are using these things ever day.and sometimes you need more that one of these because the things that you are using and working with will break down on you sooner or later and in order to keep you and you business going then you need a back up one to replace your weedeater or mower until you have the time to get it fixed now.me I have 13 lawn mowers,22 weedeater's,11 leaf blowers so hand held some back pack blowers.3 lawn mower trailors.and ever year I buy cases of oil for my leaf blowers to mix with my gas and for my leaf blowers and my chainsaws and pole saws.i also buy big spools of 95 and 80 plus 105 weedeater line to do me.then I order my 10w30 oil and oil filters for all of my lawn mowers to be used to change oil in ever one of my lawn mowers at least 3 different times a year to 4 times.you take care of your lawn mowers and they will take care of you.and I buy spark plugs by the case to put or replace in all of my equipment that I use so I do not have to run to the store for things ever hour of the day.plus I keep at least 30 gallons of gas on hand ever day for my lawn mowers and my weedeater's pole saws and chainsaws to get the job done better quicker and faster.to me time is money and make sure you do it well if not your jobs with your people you mow for will go to someone else.and try to do a little extra for the people you mow for just so they will like your ways and the extra you do for then ever time you mow for them!!!!!

Wow this is some great information!! I definitely thinking about starting a lawn care business, rite now I have 2 decent blowers and two lawnmowers, and 1 weed eater, any advice and how long will it take for my to actually see a good profit, this is a very competitive business
@petebentley31563 жыл бұрын
@@playboy4life18 ha just make sure you have more than one weedeater,maybe like 3.because like when I got started over 30 years ago,if you only have 1 weedeater and it stops working then your in big trouble.and least with more than one or 2 you always will have a backup standing by,and beleave me over time it will happen to you now.same way with lawn mowers to now you always need a backup there to now.and with weedeater line don't buy the little packs of weedeater line,wait until the fall of the season and go to places like Walmart,tractor supply and lowes and buy the big spools of weedeater line cheaper or where there reduced down because of winter and buy them that way when spring comes around and mowing business gets kicked started again.you will have your weedeater line and will not have to pay that big price on it like the way it was last spring.same way with lawn mowers to,buy them in the fall of the year when lawn mowing if almost finished up for the year and mower prices are almost half the price that they were in the summer months.hang in there and think and use your head now,and always remember that 2 or 3 of everything is a lot better than 1 is when something breaks down on you and you need it to keep up on your work!!!!!
@playboy4life183 жыл бұрын
@@petebentley3156 Okay thanks bro!!! I really appreciate it!!
@petebentley31563 жыл бұрын
@@playboy4life18 it depends on how good of a job you do for people,and just how many people like your style of mowing.plus do not mow a yard the way that you like it mowed.ask the people and mow it the way that they want it or you to mow it for them.and try to look around a see if there might be a little more things to there lawn that needs done,and if so do it but do not charge them for it.and try to mow and make there lawn look and be better than ever or,looks better than everyone's lawn in there neighbor hood lawns looks better than.that way there neighbors will ask you if you could make there lawns look like the one you just done.that my friend is how you get more business from other people,and do not ever let them down either now!!!!!

You are right Jason, I waited late in life to start my business. I will be 50 on the 22 of Dec. I enjoy doing the yards, but during the hot Alabama August and September months it pulls the life out of you. My wife does a great job at saving for the future, and knows that 1 day I will not be able to continue on. Another thing to consider is health insurance, and life insurance. I do have health, but not life insurance. Any recommendations for life? I do not want to leave my wife behind destitute . Insurance is a major factor in owning a business. I just read an book about a month ago. It has a lot of great input on a business. The Prosemity Principle. It is great read. Thank you for what you do.

I have been playing with the idea of starting a lawn care business on the side. Primarily going for yards that are smaller and push mow only jobs. Maybe geared towards discounts for elderly. I just bought a tonneau cover for my truck and figured I could just haul everything in my bed and be covered. This would be a part time job idea to be able to stop on my way home from work and maybe a few yards on the weekends. I need a push mower and better weedeater for my own house anyways. So even if I fail, I'm not at a lose.

Jason, I liked your videos a lot better when you just spoke to the camera and didn't insert all of the generic "feel good" little clips, like someone punching a calculator or someone playing in their yard. I find it distracting. But that's just one man's opinion. I love your videos, so keep it up! One point.... That one yard you go buy a mower for, and that yard alone, may just be a huge profit that will allow you to pay for the mower in itself. Then, you have it for future use.
