Just a quick note- I don't think you mentioned it but you played it this way all the time- the major third always gets approached from the minor 3rd below- don't know why- but it sounds terrible going from the perfect 4th to the major 3rd, but sounds awesome and like legit blues if you go up to it from the minor 3rd below. I noticed you did that even when you were otherwise "walking" down the scale- you still always approached the major 3rd from below. Sounded great- and I've heard that "rule" before- that when playing blues or blues rock mixing the two scales- always approach the major 3rd from below. Well done as always Papa!
@BrettPapa8 жыл бұрын
Thanks!

True this ! It just doesn't sound the same, just terrible when approached from up.

That was great. I like the way you stayed on one chord/scale. I get lost getting fancy on multiple chords. Gotta start small and work up. I know the pentatonic scales and where the roots are, but that's about it so far. I used to think a guy might be able to figure these things out by ear, but it helps SO much to know about the notes that sound good and why they work. I'm never satisfied with my playing. lol. Thanks Brett.

One thing you were doing but didn't talk about really was how you incorporated your right hand middle, ring, & pinky fingers (mainly your middle finger) while using the flat pick. I think it's called hybrid picking? Not really sure about that but whatever it's called it is a strong component to that style of playing. I really wish I new how to incorporate it in my playing. I think people that learn to play using that picking style are some of the best players out there. You're a very humble guy in my opinion Papa, but you are a rippin guitar player. When it comes to tasty feel with tons of emotion and slick soloing and licks, you are one of the best. Thanks to you and Marty for all the inspiration and lessons. You truly are one of the greats!!!

those little hammer-on and pull-off licks are absolutely amazing and way you put so much speed on them! any chance you could send through some sort of tab for them? that would be awesome to practice, its the part where you were hammering on and pulling off 7-8-7-5 on the high e-string and you follow through with that run, absolutely amazing! love your work you're teaching me so much!

IMO, mix things up by using the 'drunken cat fight' (sparingly) to create tension and convey emotion. Some rules are made to be broken when speaking from the heart. "Drunken' cat fight", LOL! What an accurate description. Well, said. Great video!
