I love how the most powerful engine ever put in an f1 car is a little turbo 4 banger
@alexwright60382 жыл бұрын
What is more it was a standard road car block. Usually aged in the rain for a year, preferably having done 50000 miles in a road car. This was done to weed out imperfection in the block, as they would have caused a failure by then. Poor Renault with their purpose built turbo race engine, getting beaten by a pumped up road car engine.

The Best Looking F1 Car Ever !!! ! !!! :-)

I'd be happy if modern F1 went back to these types of race cars i.e. = Weight of car = 1,190 pounds or 539 kilos. Rear tire size = 420mm or 18 inches wide. Engine = 1.5 liter inline 4 cylinder turbo. I'd keep the advanced sequential gearbox in carbon fiber case. Since the engine would be more simple and less costly to make I'd let teams spend more money on more advanced aero package... Lower to the ground, lowered height. Ground effects for the under tray. Active suspension.

@S85B50Engine4 жыл бұрын
The problem with ground effect is that the G forces are too high even for F1 drivers. Niki Lauda said that after he raced the Brabham Fan car, he said the car felt like it was on rails, but he was clearly physically exhausted.
@Rottensteam3 жыл бұрын

Cyl # 4 looks a bit rich. I spoke to Piquet about driving this. He said “tach is useless. When head snap forward due to rev-limiter, you grab another gear. You shift gears almost as fast as you can ‘row through the gearbox.’”

Has anybody ever verified those outrageous horsepower numbers or has it become mythology....I realize its technically do-able on a dyno with a lot of tricky stuff...but not believable for a road race car. I spectated at a couple of F1 races in the mid 80's and IMHO, the cars were nothing like 1hp per lb
@martincosby97438 жыл бұрын
I've been going to F1 races since 1980 and I can verify that the figures were pretty accurate. I was at Silverstone in 1985 when Keke Rosberg set the famous 160mph average speed lap for pole position. I watched transfixed as he went through Clearways to complete the lap with a deflating left rear tyre: on opposite lock, leaving huge black lines on the tarmac, mist of unburnt fuel spraying out behind him, flames as he changed gear. Spectacular. Also don't forget in those days the engines were burning Tuorine, which is basically a rocket fuel. Read the interviews with the drivers too - it was clear those cars were way overpowered.

On a training lap it could output up to 1200hp. You can look this up. They dialed it down for the actual races but it should have had up to 900-1000 hp.
