Never drove one, but the E39 M5 has been one of my favorite cars ever regardless of that fact. It is just iconic!

For sure, older BMWs just have something the newer ones don’t.

The more I look at the pre face lift m5's the more I appreciate them. Especially the black gauges. Nice review.

If you look at the car guru price trends that def seems to support it.

Get the euro arm rest. It allows fold up and storage. No clue why US cars don't. Gotta mention that sunshades aren't standard. They were optional.
@DFWsCars6 жыл бұрын
R Snikwad interesting on the armrest, I too wonder why they did that! Thanks for the info on the sunshades most US ones I’ve seen had it- so assumed it was included.

R Snikwad Mine’s German made and it doesn’t fold up

I tore apart quite a few junkyard e39 in the states and most of that console area is filled with the airbag sensor and it’s wiring, I’m assuming y’all have it there too, but thinking back it seems like most of it was halfway stuffed in there like the Tecs were thinking there was another step other than closing it off

In my opinion, when i talk about the M-series, the E39 M5 is the most beautiful BMW ever made

The ‘automatic’ version of the M5 is called Alpina B10V8S. In manual mode the shifts are prettige fast too. It’s a better daily driver (I own a M5 and 2 Alpina’s). Only problem is finding one. BMW made over 20.000 M5’s e39. Alpina produced only 188 B10V8S. Very rare and even more expensive than the best M5’s.
@DFWsCars5 жыл бұрын
used to be the only way to get a sporty 7 series was the Alpina. They do good work.

The best M5 Ever is the E60 M5! Speaking from experience, I owned the E39 M5 for seven years! ..it is an amazing car . I currently have a 2010 E63 M6=( E60 M5) ...it is the Most special M car Ever built by BMW. The E60 M5 beat the runner-up Ferrari in the 2005 & 2006 Wards international Engine of the year by the largest margin ever of over 129 votes. This is car you have own to understand!..SMG!

Sam Toure they actually cost about the same for a reason. Engine wise I agree with you (it’s great till it’s not). Prob my fav engine sound in a modern BMW. Styling not as much (the sedan)- and as to overall feel , it feels bigger, heavier, & slightly more isolated- even if technically faster. All that said, If I could find an E60 with a bumper to bumper, I would take it in a heartbeat!

@@DFWsCars I do not know of a more reliable V10..by any another manufacturer. Ps. why a Tesla for a car guy like you? PS. My daily is a Mini GP 2!
@DFWsCars6 жыл бұрын
Here in the US we have lawsuits on the V10 & my local shop has 3 with shot engines. 🤷♂️ I’m also a tech guy so the Tesla is amazing. Also, as a car it’s the best EV in that pricepoint and their Supercharing network makes it practical.

Never say never, work hard, live frugally- & you never know. In the US higher miles ones can be had for about 10k & then just put some $ aside for repairs

That headliner is not alcantara....the only piece that’s alcantara is the piece around the home link garage door opener
@DFWsCars5 жыл бұрын
I use alcantara generically- even tho I guess it’s a brand. It’s not the soft material old cars used- but also not the plastic new cars used- so it felt like Alcantara (or I should have probably said sudo suede).
@DFWsCars5 жыл бұрын
Good call @ 8:15 while touching home link- I say headliner. Whatever material they used was good as it had no sag. That said, I looked it up as I recalled other M5s having it up there & some M5s did have it, perhaps it was an option or by year (or like my old ZHP alcantara wheel- when you make a warranty claim- they swap the alcantara for a diff material).
@5fiftyshadesofgreen05fifty75 жыл бұрын
Ferrari Dave DFWs Cars Reviews I only commented because my e39 M5 has the full alcantara headliner...it is more expensive then suede, but I think yours must have been replaced or someone added alcantara piece by the home link. If you still own the car I Know where you can get a full alcantara headliner for $250...used but looks really good
