Thanks for watching 🤘BMW M54 DISA Valve FIXED and Upgraded!

Great tutorial! Just rebuilt mine this morning. I carefully removed the DISA valve, keeping it as level as possible when working it out. Come to find out, the flap wasn't functioning, same as in your video "and" the end pin slipped right out. So, yes, be very careful when removing these. I ended up using the German Auto Solutions rebuilding kit with titanium parts. Made sure my diaphragm was in working order and everything worked out perfect. One less thing to worry about with my '03 E39!

Nice video! Some kits come with a new diaphragm (cup) for the small valve on the end. It would have been good to show its disassembly & installation.
@JamiesGarage12 жыл бұрын
I've never seen those. The diaphragm is sealed shut so unless its expected to be cut open and glue it shut again, I'm not sure how that would be serviceable. I'll look into it though, thanks

Not saying it’s written in stone, but from my experience I agree with Jamie in saying that the interior diaphragm of these are not serviceable.

Thanks for the great vid. Very easy to follow. I am surprised that the orangy gasket on the flapper frame is not mentioned. Mine is degrading; I'm sure others are, too. If you try to clean it, good chance it will come apart. My o-ring, flapper( prolly original), and crank thingie looked really good. Frame gasket not so. Any thoughts on that frame gasket material? Seem like air will leak, maybe not critical though?

Hi love the quality of work your provide ! I checked the disa on my 330CI from 2001 and 240 000 km on it. No problems at all. In my opinion it’s impossible in case this pin get lose, that she can reach the motor. And that’s because this pin has no space to move as the plenum is just behind. Are you sure about it ? Thanks,
@mikemd26979 ай бұрын
The risk of that pin falling out and into the intake occurs during the removal of the disa valve. As you pull on the disa valve to remove it in its entirety, it creates space behind the disa valve... enough space that the pin can then fall out and drop into the intake. The key is to be very aware of the angle while you are removing the disa valve and don't tilt it so much that the pin can fall out.

Should the flap be installed in completely closed position? I attached it to this plasti rod and its slightly open

The rebuild does not address the bell crank shaft seal. That can be a vacuum leak source. I think this would be a strong argument fir entire valve replacement.

@dennisvandegrift9085 Жыл бұрын
You can install a 3 stage manifold on a N52 engine. They don’t come with it as a stock manifold and I would repair the used DISA valves while you’re doing it. I am in the planning stages of this upgrade currently for my 2008 Z4 3.0I with the N52 engine.

Different. The engine has a throttle body, this is only used to direct the air through the intake manifold for more or less air volume depending on the engine's needs

What about the later N series engines? Are these valves still problematic? My wife’s 2011 2.5L E90 has a loss of midrange torque which wasn’t cured by replacing the VANOS solenoids. I’ve done lots of research and no concrete solution. I don’t want to continue throwing money at it without knowing the cause. Thanks!!!
@JamiesGarage12 жыл бұрын
The N engines don't have a DISA so you're good there. You'll need to have it diagnosed to find the issue. Good luck 🤘
@meismyname2 жыл бұрын
@@JamiesGarage1 Unfortunately that's incorrect. N52s (aside from the US 325i) have DISA valves, and the 3 state intake manifold found in the 330i and X3/X5 N52 models have two DISA valves, an inner and an outer. I had to replace both of mine. They're actuated with an electric motor and a worm gear, no vacuum pot. They can get worn out with time, but I don't believe they have the catastrophic issue like the M54s with the pin dropping out. The N52s will throw fault codes for DISA valve faults though.

I literally just ordered a kit on Amazon but I have a 2.5 M54 so it's slightly different ( the main flap is a different length ) so be careful when ordering the right one for your 3.0 M54. I chose not to order the more expensive aluminum kit and opted for the $16.95 plastic rebuild kit, LOSTAR brand that had 100 ratings with a 4.3 star average review.

Hey Jamie i have a bmw e39 with m54b25 engine and it starts pulling after 4000rpm so could it be the disa valve or/and vanos? 175tkm on the meter. The idele control valve gets stuck sometimes but not all the time. Thanks and keep on making good videos 👍

It could be several different issues causing your concern. I'd recommend to remove the valve and inspect it like I show you in this video. You might find something.

@@JamiesGarage1 thanks, going to check it at the same time i check the idle control valve.
@brainkill70343 ай бұрын
His tip of covering the vacuum outlet and releasing the DISA valve is spot on. If it goes more than the ~20 degrees or so shown in the video the diaphragm is bad. A DISA valve failing in this manner will reduce power and response at lower RPMs. From my experience, the IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) will get dirty over time and cause surging in idle or something of the like, but typically won’t cause much issue while driving (under load or throttle open).

Es ist unmöglich, daß der Pin im eingebauten Zustand aus der Disa heraus fällt!!! Is is impossible, that the axle fell out of the DISA, if the DISA is built-in tinto the intake manifold. Main part of the DISA which fails is the "motor" of it. The diaphragm breaks. So, do not waste money on a kit - buy directly a new original complete one.

Why do I get the feeling BMW didn't make this part out of aluminium initially? This check probably isn't even part of their scheduled service policy. Probably designed to fail to get you to buy a new car. Engineered obsolesce.
@Kamal_AL-Hinai2 жыл бұрын
of course its plastic
@1djbecker Жыл бұрын
The plastic construction wasn't the source of the failures. It's the design and material selection. The original flap and linkage used a heavily glass-filled resin. Normally a high glass fill strengthens the plastic and extends the service life, at the expense of mold wear. In this case the glass fill acted as an abrasive. If the flap is able to move slightly, it flutters and the vibrating mating surfaces grind away at each other. When loose, the fluttering might loosen the upper metal and start wear there.
