Ive seen four different methods so far. 1. the obvious costly replacement; 2. another like this using a different type of expandable pipe; 3. this one; and 4. a different approach altogether where they just remove the water pump and fix the seal with an insert instead of removing the pipe. I think I like this for the piece of mind.

This is exactly right. I have a X5 with the N62 engine. If I'm not fixing an oil leak i'm fixing a coolant leak. Right now, i've got coolant leaks in three different locations and have had to fix the valley leak twice. Worst engine I've ever had. If you buy one, you will go poor. Also this company now seems to be out of business. The web address at least no longer works which is too bad.
