It's not about where the weight is on the boat for this particular stuff. It's about people driving too fast in a narrow channel and making a wake (v shaped wave that emanates right and left behind the boat) then all the other boats have to contend with waves that shouldn't be there. Think of a wave in a bathtub. The tub is too small for the wave and the wave just sloshes back and forth. All you need is one boat (two waves) going too fast for the channel to turn into a sloshpit of doom.

1)Lake boats are not safe on the Canal if it is busy like this - but lots still do it. 2) First boat was over loaded for the situation, but once you're in the situation it's too late 3)White boat towards the end is wrong and being driven recklessly - where are the Police?

The first boat was overloaded to begin with. Then, it's never a good idea to ride in the bow when the water is choppy as it puts too much weight up front and leads to nosediving the boat.

Learned that the hard way when I was 14. I was driving my dad's 11 foot dinghy, my friend was sitting in the bow. The weather was semi-rough (atleast for the dinghy), and we buried the bow and the dinghy took on a lot of water. I honestly thought we were going to sink and die, even though we had PFD's and the coast was like 300 yards away and sea wasnt too cold. Could've easily swam ashore. But I was 14 and so I thought we were definitely going to die. But we didnt, and didnt sink either. I used the bailer to get rid of the water and we were back on our way, both sitting at the stern seat.

It's a great idea for boats on lakes and slow, calm rivers. Means when you're flying at high speeds the bow dips down and allows everyone on board to see. Those kinds of boats aren't meant for this kind of water.

Any of that style of boat that the gunwale curves downward at the bow is going to be a prime candidate for stuffing. People really should save that style of boat for the ski lake.

The blue boat skipper was a fool by not slowing down immediately it started taking on water. The other problem I see was the point where the bilge pump was trying to get rid of the water wasn't large enough that was a rainwater exit you would need an exit that was at least 3inch minimum to get rid of a lot of water very very quickly.

Whoever thought 'bowrider's were a good idea in anything but calm water! Luckily the design has not crossed into Europe! In rough weather don't sit in the bow area. Stretch a canvas cover over it to prevent water getting into the boat!

1) The canal connects the Barnegat Bay with the Manasquan RIVER, not the inlet. 2) the boat in front of the screaming kid did not create those conditions. To imply they were stuffing bc of the boat in front of them is just wrong.

Totally Captain Error. 1)Any child, should not only be wearing a CG approved life vest, but should be wearing it securely throughout the length of the boating excursion. 2) NO CHILD should be riding on/in the bow of a boat. Notice how *all of the adults* are riding midship. Why? Probably because they know how treacherous riding bow can be. This just makes this entire situation more egregious.

*First boat* Unbelievable. That father should be in jail. After the first wave swamped the bow and the kids screaming, he does nothing to counteract the problem. Then, there's the last minute scramble for life jackets, the father trying to "rescue" his beer cooler, people bailing out the boat with paper coffee cups...a recipe for a total disaster. These are called "pleasure" boats because operating them is supposed to be fun. It's amazing how so many oblivious skippers sit comfortably amidships, away from the boarding seas and staying dry, while their panicked guests get tossed around, thoroughly soaked, and half drowned. What's going through their (alleged) minds?
