This is, like, the definition of a 7/10 episode. Petty good, not really memorable but not really bad either, good enough but just...There. Some cool moments, it was nice seeing stuff like the heat sensing vision getting fooled by setting the environment on fire, it felt really even in a way we actually haven't seen in a while, it wasn't great, there weren't really any stand-out moments, and there's certainly some glaring flaws (most notably, having Boba just tank the explosion point-blank in direct contradiction of the analysis), but it was decent.

The end of the fight really irritated me for some bizzare reason. It was like the moment the Boba pulled out the lightsaber and the Predator took off the mask, the fight came to a grinding halt and I found myself losing interest fast. It wasn’t like the fight itself was bad and became worse, but the overall pacing that it had set turned me off. Not only how it seemed like you could easily kill off a predator by surrounding it with fire, but how after the self destruct, there was no tension at all of “did Boba survive the blast?!” The way it was shown, Boba just took the blast and walked away as if nothing happened. I know the self destruct might not be the biggest “OH SHIT!” moment for Predator, but at least have Boba realize the self destruct was activated and have him start running before the explosion. Overall, I’d put the fight in the mid to low for this season. I would actually call this episode the “Shao Khan vs Akuma” of this season for something that could have been amazing, but the fight itself was underwhelming.

Also thank you for clarifying why the self destruct takes so long. If I was going off death battle’s logic, this would have made even less sense. But the idea of “giving respect to their opponent by giving them the chance to run away from the explosion,” feels like something that should have been brought up at some point (and if it was, I totally missed that). In a way, that’s kind of what makes the Predators interesting since they aren’t just mindless killers. Yeah, they hunt all kinds of creatures and aliens, but they can be pretty damn chill between the beat ‘em up game where two predators team up with humans to fight the Aliens and that special “friendship slide” scene from that one movie (and letting the one human live and with a prize when it bounces).

I find it REALLY weird how Boba just pulls out a lightsaber, just out of nowhere! I wish there was a scene beforehand where its established that all the dead people were Jedi, maybe have a scene where some Jedi are fleeing from Boba with one of them wounded from one of his shots. Only for the invisible Predator to be watching them- it makes its iconic snarl then cut to black. I know Samus vs Boba had him pull out a saber from thin-air, but also that was season 2. I feel like we're allowed to have a bit of build-up in our fights. Also having DEATHBATTLE dig into the tribes would've been really interesting tbh.

I mean just like how they used AvP lore for the predator (Which is not canon to the normal Predator lore) they used Legends lore with boba (Which isn't canon to Disney SW). Boba does indeed carry a saber on him in the Legends OG timeline. This was proven twice. Once when he fought Vader on Tatooine and again when he used it to again, Fight Vader on a ship

The more I hear about Predators through comments and even this video, the more I feel like this death battle really dropped the ball on the research department. It already seemed a little off but then seeing stuff like how Boba actually wouldn't be able to see through John's cloaking or the fact that there are different clans yet I got the impression that there was just one really makes me doubt the outcome. Also doesn't help that John was portrayed as a complete idiot while Boba tanks a nuke. Really just came off as an "This character lost before so we threw them a bone" episode like Batman vs Captain America and Ryu vs Jin. Coincidentally those two also show disrespect to the loser, mocking Captain America (in multiple episodes afterwards) and Wiz calling Jin a dumbass so it's not a good look for the fight.

The reasearch was absolutely awful. I was really pissed at how they discounted how terrifying the Yautja's main rival, the Xenomorphs, are at the end. They basically went "yeah, some jedi and sith can throw big spaceships" but in canon Xenomorphs can take over planets and even star systems with insane speed

John Yautja is my favorite character in the Predator franchise, so I am so glad Death Battle decided to use this extremely defined and fan favorite of the species to stand for all of clans and clan members, it was the most reasonable choice. John is just a very sweet guy and deserve that. Big rip about Jedi scaling though. John was wronged.

The biggest oversight is that they initially talk about using a Elder Predator for the analysis, but wind up using and looking at mostly new blood stages of the Predator for both feats and equipment.

Yea this battle was massively disappointing, they said they was gunna look an elder predator which has much more combat experience and gear yet they decided to use a basic jungle hunter predator for this battle. And I also agree with you on the whole “where was his traps and stealthy tactics” I was hoping for a “who’s the hunted” scenario for its opening to get the tension riling up and give us a decent battle. I was really looking forward to this battle as it Bobas second time (the remake doesn’t count for me) ever to appear in DB and seeing them using a predator finally made me excited yet I was felt disappointed and annoyed a little

The fight only used Jungle Predator's design, but the research used a composite Predator. Basically a situation in which the fight uses a design of a character's most iconic look despite their current or peak selves looking different. Aizen, Ben, Aang, Zuko and Toph got a similar treatment.

Yeah the self destruct was the lowest point for me in this fight, he John activated the countdown too soon for my liking, and we could have at least seen Boba put together that it is a countdown bomb and we see him making a break for it either sprinting or what little juice he has left in his jetpack and maybe have John make an attempt to maybe either hold Fett down to blow up with him or maybe attache the bomb to Fett. But I did like John being unable to see with Boba amongst heat of the fire as a reversal of the original film with mud masking Dutch(Arnold) amongst the cold, I liked it when John played back Boba's lines, and the music was good with the Mando flute in the beginning and we get Predator's theme too

I hate this episode. Not only do I find the research very slipshod and quite frankly bullshit (especially in regards to the Predator…also Fett doesn’t scale to Vader fuck off. And don’t think I didn’t notice you left out my boy Ahab’s accomplishments.), but the fight makes the Predator (WHO IS SUPPOSED TO BE AN ELDER BTW) look like a moron and a pushover. As a Predator fan, this is shameful. Easily the worst episode of the season, and I really wished it wasn’t sucks because the Predator is my favorite horror movie monster, if the Predator comes back (which it should) it deserves better than this. Hope Excalibur vs Raiden picks up the slack this left behind (if the metal gear win streak sadly has to end to do that then so be it).

Yautja are stronger, I knew that much going in, and I learned that they have roughly the same speed as Boba Fett and live for hundreds of years fighting against many different opponents. I don't see how weaponry matters when a Yautja could run in and break Boba Fett's bones with punches alone.

But its kind of unfair to pit a named character vs what's basically just a random guy with mish match feet's and no lore/history. Dont get me wrong i'm not salty Boba won and predator lost. Hell I love both. Its just that after like 3 lost on Boba and his new show coming out, this felt like a pity fight.I'm sure no one would deny that if this was Scarface, Boba might have had a harder time and most likely would have lost. I would have liked it if Boba got a bounty on the predator. It would have made more sense if Boba pulled out his flash grenade which would temporarily blind predator and then Boba gets the drop on him with the lightsaber. It also kinda makes no sense on how Boba wasn't able to see the smart disc coming with his 360 degree vision. Also his wrist rocket would have definitely sent Predator flying especially since they show Boba's rifle and knee rockets send him flying moments before. I also wish they would have shown more of the predator's arsenal and shown Boba using his pistols and sniper and mini homing missiles.

I agree with a lot of points here tbh, the animation wasn't that special, the ending was too anticlimactic, the animation has a lot of nitpicks (erect dreadlocks and pocket dimetion weapons) and John doesn't even act and looks like an elder predator at all, as you say he acts more like a bad blood due to his erratic and incompetent way of fighting, he has some skill, but not enough to show he has been hunting for centuries. He doesn't even use the net they mentioned on the stats lmfao This fight could've been better if they went in a different direction, I liked the hunter hunted scenario, cause that's what I thought it could be, and also by treating the predator way better than what they had done here. They gave him the same respect hollywood have been given to them since the second movie, dumbing them down to stupid roaring monsters that have no skill in what they're known for at all that you even question how are they even hunters in the first place This fight could've been way more interesting, if they didn't focused on giving a pity win to Boba, it doesn't matter if he won here, but by not dumbing down one of the more skilled hunters, the fight could've been way better than what they gave us Also last point I hace, the argument about "Boba could've outsmarted him, he doesn't play by the rules". One of the most blatant cases of simply not looking up the material. The Yaujta was supposed to be an Elder with peak equipment, yet runs the basic bitch unblooded gear, and worst of all, they mixed up the fucking visions of the predator. Predators do not see in infa red, they see red, just a red haze. Infa red is their default visor choice. it also dramatically up-plays Beskar armor plating.... while forgetting Boba Fett only has a torso-plate, meaning he can literally just get bisected by anything. All in all, it was wank for boba fett.

Also I wanna point out that they say Bobas flamethrower counter the vision of John (even though predators can see in multiple shades of light and other predators like Scary have been lit on fire and still see just fine) Nothing the predator has counters a lightsaber (Well nothing Boba has counters the scythe and they say the predator is more skilled so aren't they even in those terms?) Fett can keep a range easier (Fett has a blaster, wrist mounted blaster, 3 one use missile launchers and bombs. All stuff the predator also has accept the predator has rapid fire modes in his caster and can duel wield them) Like this felt like a filler battle

In concrete jungle it was stated that upgraded versions have naovibronic edges that destabilizes materials at the subatomic level, sort of like Raiden's sword. So that's something that could very well slice through Mandalorian iron. And the other is the Dissolving Liquid (it has not official name); a small that contains a mixture of chemicals that are so potent it reduces bodies to nothing and can evaporate a swimming pool in mere seconds, and is strong enough to overpower the xenomorph's acid blood. (which can already eat through the hull of a ship). And yes, the Wolf Predator did use it for combat purposes at one point and there's nothing that says madalorian iron is resistant to chemical attack.

I can't believe you missed that the thermal detonator explosion is a live action stock explosion copy pasted into a 3D animation at the wrong angle so it is exploding off the edge of the screen, and not off the ground. That explosion was the cheapest, and laziest on they've done in a Death Battle in years.

I personally disagree, but I still really quite enjoyed the episode. But it is my second least favorite of the season. 7.3/10. However, the problems are there, especially the composite problem. It’s different to a matchup like, say, Xenomorph vs Death Angel (Alien vs A Quiet Place), the composite problem wouldn’t be a problem due to the Xenomorphs and Death Angels being mostly like Pokémon in a sense, with differences being in the subspecies (Deacons, Neomorphs, etc.) and in the queen herself, but the matchup is intended for a base Xenomorph. Meanwhile, The Youtja are so different that a composite one is just confusing, as shown here.

I had a moment in my life where I did a load of research on Yautja and these are some pretty solid arguments. But my biggest gripe was Boba Fett surviving the predator self destructing. The largest explosion recorded from a Yautja self-destruct was "300" CITY blocks! Plus it's a plasma based explosion so it's even more deadly. the point of not being able to see the light saber might actually makes sense. that weapon can cut through anything with heat but people can hold the handle and put the blade a few inches away from people without giving them 3rd degree burns. it would seem that the vast majority of the heat is held in that magnetic field.

They really dropped the ball on the research side of things here. As you touched on there is so much Yautja lore that a composite Yautja really had every advantage over Boba if they actually looked at the entire species instead we got Johnny Yautja who you covered flawlessly. This would have been a more fair matchup if it were against a singular Yautja like Wolf, Scarface or Ahab, instead we got this episode where you could clearly tell they wanted Boba to win.

Sorry, but I loved this fight. It's my second favorite episode, and could easily take the number one spot. I have no connection to the Predator franchise, so I loved John's analysis, because I got to learn something new. I give it an 9/10. Agree to disagree! :)

Ohhhh, that first second of silence after saying the name of the episode does tell how 6-7/10 it is. I dont blame anymore tho. First time i was watching i felt like i lost a lot on the climax. I like the analisys of Predator, but Boba Fett is a bit tacky, like, off. I was watching with my brother and from the look of our faces we both could tell we weren´t impress with it. It just weird. Lastly this is an example for myself for how a hype track can uplift a battle to another level, like Princes of Pride and Magnetic Nemesis (the one from Magneto vs Tetsuo). (PD: I like the track *enough,* its better than Akuma vs Shso Khan at least. I wanted to name examples of tracks that uplift some episode, this one unfortunately doesnt uplift it, but doesnt drags it down.) TO me, track does a lot of the job. Even if this track is not bad, i dont think it was enough PD: oh yeah ofc there are good things. I like some of the choreography, and the standout moment is Predador cutting Boba Fett´s Arm, even if its a bit silly he just stood there, considering he could see from behind the Yaucha. (You see how weird is this episode man????)

When I saw the lightsaber VS scythe moment, it gave me Fierce Diety Link VS Cloud vibes, which is not good. Also when Boba says "I'll take this", I had no idea what he was taking from John. I didn't even think of him taking back his cut arm since it had disappeared from the fight for a long time, but the worst thing about this scene is that Boba didn't even lean nor bend down that much on John, so it almost didn't even seem to me that Boba was picking something up from the laying John.

So a few things: 1.) I didn't know about the different tribes. Like I know the last 2 movies introduced waring factions but didn't the extent it went. (This review intrigued me more about Predator lore than the episode.) 2.) Seems like DB weren't the only ones who goofed about the Predator research. A lot of people were giving Predator everything even though this type of Predator wouldn't exist (unless their name is John Yautja)

I honestly think, that this fight was the worst in this season, but not the worst of all time, I'm happy Boba won his first DB, but they mistreated Predator so bad as well, this could have been a hella close of a fight and actually could've made an interesting one, only if they didn't mistreat the Predator like that (and actually measured explosions like, damn).

I feel like if you change the predator stabbing the tree to him seeing boba in the tree so he cuts the tree In half with the spear or to set up the scythe, he cuts it In with the scythe. Also to make the self destruct is to have boba cut the predator in half after with the lightsaber leading to the predator using the self destruct. And finally have the back pack missile and the thermal detonator so the missile cause the giant explosion
