Thanks guys! I’m a 35 yr IT VETERAN and have rehabbed THA folks in acute, inpt, op, HH as far as adherence to precautions while utilizing AD’s for ADL’s etc. and functional strength, endurance etc.. Now after years of trying not to have one and resultant mm imbalance 2’ pain related compensatory gait patterns, at 67 and RTHR, it’s a whole ‘nother ball game. Thank you for these. I think it is important that we do have these progressive ex’s demonstrated by two healthy guys who know how to move accurately and can demonstrate these things correctly for us. Thank you.

I am almost 6 weeks out, all of my original pain is gone, which I am so grateful for. However, the stiffness, shin, splints, incision, pain in knee pain from learning how to walk differently again are killing me.

I appreciate your series. After discharge from home health I missed having guided therapy. So working your exercises replaces that, thank you. My biggest challenge at 11 weeks is that after 2 months of protecting the injured side all the tendons, ligaments and muscles in my hips and back are super tight. A video with stretches to loosen these would be helpful. With protections no longer in place, of course.

I'd like to ask a question ? 6-weeks ago I had a total left hip replacement, Anterior approach, my question is Why do you say "if you had anterior" Don't do a standing kick back or Hip Extension, I'm not sure what the proper name is, While standing, balance on one leg and move your other leg in a backward direction, I'm just curious because my physical therapist gave me that exercise to do on my 5th week after surgery?

This is twice now that they've given an exercise that I've been told explicitly NOT to do. The straight leg raises were forbidden without question. In another video, they gave an exercise that was safe for anterior, and physical therapy here said not to do that one for anterior. Are these guys outside the US, or what? I can't go to physical therapy. I'm not sure what to do now.

How about a series for those of us who are young and very fit? I could walk fine at day 17. At 5 weeks I was already doing all of these very easily. I have to add 10lbs of ankle weight to make leg raises challenging, etc. Is it just a matter of adding resistance to these same exercises, or are there other types that can be done?

I think the exercise for younger patients are still the same like on the video, the difference only that young patients will recover faster than elderly or old adults, so if you are able to do these exercises with no problem at all and you're following the precautions, you should be alright and are free to continue to the next exercise video, ignoring the recovery time. If not, then take it easy and keep watch on your progress for every week.

Hi, Atul here am 60 year old today from India. I had to undergo my right hip replacement on 11th October 2022, but still feel pain in my right thigh muscles, crotch region, inner thigh muscles and walk with a distinct gait. Extremely painful when any particular muscle "tweaks" while walking. Will I ever be able to walk straight? What is recommended or is it already too late? Anxiously awaiting your recommendations and suggestions...

It would be a lot more helpful if you had people who are actually recovering from these conditions to demonstrate. It's very hard to relate to a young more-than-fit person who has complete range of motion.

I feel ur need because it gives realistic expectations because range is way less then what they are able to do. Due to situational concerns with each individual. I just had replacement a week ago. And I struggle with certain exercises. Some I have a better range. It would be nice to see someone doing it with less range to motivate u especially if ur a beginner or struggling due to pain. Just remember any movement is better than none. As PT says motion is lotion!!! God bless a good suggestion. 😉❤️❤️❤️

We don’t need hip replacement patient to do this they can’t demonstrate it as well as these guys they tell you to do it in a small range of motion at first, these are simple exercises anyone can follow, skip the exercises if it hurt or you can’t to it.

My anterior hip replacement is scheduled for September. I’m a side sleeper. I sleep on my left side and I sling my right leg (the bad side) over my left leg to sleep. I won’t be able to do that. I can’t fall asleep on my back. If I have a wedge abduction cushion strapped on, how does one get up to go to the bathroom at night. I’m nervous.

Hi guys. I had anterior THR 4 weeks ago. I will have the 2nd one done in Aug.. My gait was great the 2nd week after surgery but now my left hip ( nonoperative) is giving me more and more grief and it is causing me to limp 🤦‍♀️. Suggestions? I have 8 weeks to go before I fix the left.

After THR, posterior, I was progressing, very slow, but steady in PT. I was up to 1/4 mile per day by week 5, quads and gluts very weak. Still on walker. My question is: I was progressing and getting off all pain meds by Day 42 .. I started the standing exercises where I stand on the operated leg and doing the exercises with the good leg. Everything went bad.. the pain got worse, doing those, every day until day 3 the pain went to 8 whenever I loaded the stem. What do I do? Ignore the pain? Is that a case of too much micro movement? The pain was too much. But I really need to get strong. I’m very frustrated. I’m at 6 weeks and still need the walker

@catherinenyberg2483: l am also at 6 weeks' and still using crutches. My doctor says this is normal, and that l am making particularly good progress.🤷 She recommended l use only one crutch at home, but there's no way l can walk without hobbling without some sort of support. I started some of these exercises today (just ahead of 6weeks in), but had already been doing the standing exercises regularly. (Hip abduction, posterior raise, frontal raise...) I've been told not to rush it - being patient is part of the process!
@Faristol7
@Faristol7 Жыл бұрын
P.S. l also experienced crushing pain trying to put all my weight on the operated hip for the frontal leg raise, so l'm just not doing that one again until l feel more secure. I'll talk to my doctor about it when l see her. Different strokes for different folks is all!!

I have been a fan for a long time. However, the new format has been underwhelming. With all due respect, it comes across as if you are "phoning it in" and moved on to greener pa$ture$. Some of the information from the two gentlemen is also patently incorrect or not following Best Practices. Example: They suggested in one of the previous clips that when putting on pants the "good leg" should be dressed first. As a recovering hip replacement patient, I assure you that is not what my doctors and PT team have advised. Sorry to see such a good program is moving towards becoming just another KZbin content producer.

There is no way in hell that I can do clam shell at 4 weeks. I cannot even lift it off the other knee without severe pain which will exacerbate the pain longer term. So you may want to mention that some people cannot do this at 4 weeks. In fact my PT said not to even try until it's no longer painful to try it. Same thing applies to straight leg lifts. I think this is bad advise in your videos.
