Holy moly, I just did a thing that made my pain go from 12 to 0. I’ve been hardly able to walk all week because of stenosis, degeneration C7 pinched nerve that was radiating to my scapula. I grabbed my scarf, put it around my neck and laid down on a hard floor. With my head resting against the floor, I pulled back, causing traction. There was an audible pop and I could feel the vertebra move and I jumped up, pain-free. It was miraculous!! I’ve been watching videos and stretching nonstop and maybe that helped loosen me up, but darn!-that one single action made all the difference. Feel better, everyone.

An update: It took about 3 weeks to get better. I was prescribed gabapentin so I could sleep (be careful you will have withdrawals with this when you get off of it), and muscle relaxers. Mostly recovered after 8 weeks. I get occasional tingling down my arm still, but I suspect that will randomly go away some day. It's not a big deal at all at this point. Praise science and the doctors that are here to help us. Physical therapy and time was the biggest help.

Early January this year I had cervical radiculopathy all the way down my left shoulder and arm, complete numbness on my index and middle finger. An MRI a few days later confirmed a ruptured disc and C7 severe nerve root compression. It was only 2 weeks later I tested my left tricep strength, and I assessed it to be over 85% weaker before onset of symptoms. I couldn't straight my arm against gravity or do a single pushup so that had me worried. I started PT with chintucks, neck and upper back flexibility exercises and tricep strengthening every day. At 4 weeks I saw a neuro who recommended surgery as my arm was still very weak..but in the end decided to continue non surgical route as I felt while slow, I was still improving. Now at 9 weeks and tricep strength almost back to where I was (15% or so weaker) and now doing 10 dips / 15 Close grip/diamond pushups, where I don't really notice the weakness anymore. Pain and numbness completely gone. I know I my experience will not be like others but hopefully might help those weighing up surgery or not. If your symptoms are improving after 4-6 weeks and are disciplined to doing PT definitely recommend not opting for surgery. I feel the chin tucks, wall angels, and a few days anti inflammatories when I had stiff neck episodes really helped, as well as warm/hot baths. Nerve pain really sucks, and I was bedridden for quite a few days. Talking it through with someone can really help, and keeping at it and being patient knowing at these things tend to get better over time.

Thank you so much for your excellent videos!!! Over a year ago I developed numbness and pain shooting down my arms to my hands, no doubt due to years (I'm 67) of poor posture - round shoulders and head forward position. I was carrying heavy pails of water when my symptoms began, but then I found they recurred while using my cell phone, typing at the computer, practicing piano - anything involving my arms in front of me or looking down. I couldn't drive without my hands going numb! Soon the numbness and tingling wouldn't go away in my fingers. I was worried, but due to Covid, I hesitated going into a doctor's or PT office. Your posture advice and exercises probably saved me from neck surgery! (A friend with similar symptoms had cervical surgery, with no trial of PT.) Symptoms gradually improved over months, but by one year, I was pain free and had no more numbness. I still have to remind myself to improve my posture at times, but I am able to do all the things I want without pain and numbness. Your sound advice is greatly appreciated!

So I'm using a ball against the wall to massage my traps (to release the nerve there) in addition to using the advice in this video (to release the nerve from the vertebrae area). Just thought I'd mention that in case it's useful to others. Thank you Bob and Brad for another great video! And I love that you mentioned Stuart McGill. I am not sure if I have a pinched nerve in my neck, but I am dizzy a lot. I am a Kindergarten teacher and sometimes pick the kids up. I did have a pinched nerve, found out that my disks didn't grow properly and are deteriorating (?) The area that is actually bothering me is where the spinal column and skull. Any videos for strengthening that area? I will do the posture exercises as they are good regardless. 🐼🌏👌

I don't necessarily have "pain" in my neck/arm, but more of numbness going down into my arm whenever I have my head up in, what should be, a normal position. There is a bit of pain in my neck when I try these exercises though. Is that still a pinched nerve? I just want to make sure since it is more numbness going down my arm than any kind of pain so to speak. Thank yall for yalls videos though, I've used yalls recommendations for other things in the past with great results 😊.

I have watched many vids on this problem, & every single vid has totally different exercises for the same issue. This is the first one that ive seen that makes total sense & describes the pain i endure, especially the explaination about the posture while driving the car! I hope these exercises will help. Been in terrible pain for 2 weeks now.

David , has the pain gone away?
@daviddefortier59702 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes the pain finally went away, but it took very long! I cant say these exercises helped, or anything healped really, it just went away on its own.. but if youre experiencing this pain, i feel very sorry for you. It was one off the worst ive ever endured. I have some tips to further help you. I found that using a hot water bottle on the worst affected area, helps for temporary relief, and in addition to that, i used a set of dumbels to do back & shoulder exercisees like bent over rowing, tricep extentions & shoulder press. Also extend the arms at the sides and do circular motions while holding the dumbells. Just cycle through all those exercises until total muscle failure & i found the nerve pain almost completely subsides, but it will come back again. I did this for 3 weeks straight before the nerve pain started to subside. Hope it helps

@@daviddefortier5970 thanks so much for this valuable information, Im experiencing the pain , this is my second week.. The pain becomes worse when i lie down to sleep prompting me to spring back to sitting position. Let me try , ill tell you how it goes
@daviddefortier59702 жыл бұрын
I forgot to mention that i had my wife massage my neck & back at the affected area multiple times daily & if she found a spot that was sensitive, she would focus on it. Also used counterpain all over my neck, but it honestly never helped, but who knows that eventually contributed to healing over the long period. Good luck man, i know how it feels.

I slept wrong, my head tilted back too far all night. I spent 5 days trying to heal on my own with rice. I can’t tilt my head back so I’m really looking forward to doing these exercises to help. I definitely will work more on my posture and get a new pillow.

I was diagnosed with the following. Will these exercises help? At C4-5, there is a broad-based central disc protrusion impinging the ventral thecal sac. No spinal canal or neuroforaminal stenosis. At C5-6 and C6-7, there are mild disc bulges flattening the ventral thecal sac. No spinal canal or neuroforaminal stenosis

Hey Bob and Brad, thank you for your channel and all the wonderful information you pass along!!! Please consider turning the volume down on your intro. Some of us wear head sets or ear pieces and when we have the volume is adjusted for your speech, then your next video plays, the intro will bust an ear drum. Honestly, it causes serious pain. Again, thank you for your great channel.

Nice to find this video, and you guys! I get neck pinches 2-4 times a year, in the C6-C7 area you showed on the skeleton. It's so annoying to deal with the aftermath for days until the tenderness subsides. Sometimes it even leads to a migraine, which I'm prone to have. I'll be doing your exercises to improve my posture. One sure fire way I used to trigger a pinch was doing the big morning stretch in bed that everyone enjoys. It always pinched my neck. 🤣 I stopped doing that once I recognized the pattern.

I know I'm forgetting how bad childbirth hurt, but it's comparable to what I'm dealing with now. C4-C5 and C5-C6 are bulging severely. I'll try this, but that appointment with the neurosurgeon cannot come quick enough!

That's usually rotated cuff. It's an RSI common among students during exam cram or if you're frequently placing one arm under pressure
