When you are young your body is in its prime condition. You can throw so many things at your body when you are young and you will be just fine. Prime example is obesity. SO many young obese people will claim i did bloodwork and it shows im in perfect condition. You are because your body is actively fighting abuse. My proffesor explained that human body is perfect for taking a hard beating for couple months every now and than,what it sucks at doing is handling abuse that takes years and years especially as we get older.

He says sleep is not that important and that u can party and and build muscle but u need sleep for healthy test levels. Yet he blames me for not eating enough when I never told anyone to go on a cut or to try to maintain single digit bodyfat. Eating accurately to hit body composition goals without pushing bodyfat too high (maingaining) is beyond the comprehension of the 99% so I really think this is a communication issue and not a failing strategy. Somebody who only watches 5 seconds of something is not likely to comprehend the nuance or the "iceberg under the ocean" set of actions that must occur to get it right.

Hamza does talk about sleep a lot in his other videos, I personally have significantly improved my sleep by listening to him. I think he just tried to say that it's not the MOST important aspect but yea I agree that he miscommunicated this and underplayed the importance of sleep in this video

One thing people mistake is that Greg says maingain when you reach the point you are happy with. He doesn't say not to bulk... if you are skinny and need the calories he says do that. If you are fat and need to drop, that is fine too. So yeah.. when you are at a place you are happy at THEN maingain. It's sad that people call Greg out for this without really getting it right.
@miniweeddeerz1820
@miniweeddeerz1820 Жыл бұрын
There is no happy place. You just stop gaining muscle. You recomp for a bit and then you plateau. So you need to bulk again. Body dysmorphia is big amongst young people, they think they are fatter than they are. So they won't bulk, when in reality they are skinny they just don't realise it because they don't have abs, they're too small, and 'if you don't have abs you are fat'. Greg keeps talking about bulking at sub 10 percent body fat. No beginner natural is at that body fat. They are probably around 15 percent and need to bulk.

I think the bigger target is the goal. If you're small and want to get big, bulk. Greg often talks about the benefits of long-term goals. You won't gain nearly as much muscle if you remain the same body fat %, but then you have to cut without downsizing which is the hard part.
@TheBcoolGuy
@TheBcoolGuy 10 ай бұрын
Honestly, it isn't hard. I've done it multiple times. With any non-water weight weight you lose, some of it will be muscle, but muscle already gained is easy to gain back. It's normal to be setting new PRs 3 weeks to, at worst, 3 months into the new bulk, and you might've regained all the muscle before that. But now you're leaner. Cutting really feels anabolic in that sense. Your bodyweight ratios improve, your insulin sensitivity improves, and you roar into the new bulk. The best shape you'll be in after the cut is a month of two into the new bulk, when you've regained all the muscle and filled them out with glycogen. The main issue, as I see it, with "maingaining" is the lack of movement. Nothing really changes. Your body has no good reason to change. You're adapting to the stress of training at that calorie intake and then you're stuck there without the boost of hormonal factors, of significant anabolism, of anything... cutting is easy. Bulking is harder. Maingaining is self-torture.

In my mid 40's, I don't train like I did 20 years ago. My typical workout lasts about 25 minutes, as opposed to 2-3 hours, and I get about 16 sets in, including the warmups. I have a better mind to muscle connection than I did before, so I can say that the improved quality of each rep has led to shorter, more effective workouts. That learning came at the price of a few decades of injuries, so yeah, I do pay a lot more attention to each move I make. I just wish I could've figured all of this out years ago before all of my injuries. Now I carefully train around a ruptured disc in my lower back and significant nerve damage.

Love what Nsima says around 11:40ish about people in the industry having different pieces. Andrew Huberman talked about this in a video with Derek (MPMD) and talks about how these people's stances create division and allow the conversation to continue to create more content, rather than agreeing with the person speaking to their specific niche and the conversation ending there. He mentions how this creates more breadth for their platform, but limits the scientific discussion that can take place from people coming together and blending their specialties to advance the conversation in a unified direction. It's such a shame. Imagine the collabs that could be possible between die hard vegans and carnivore, Ben Patrick and crossfitters, Mark and crew + calisthenics athletes. So many "dichotomies" that could be improved by building off of one another, instead of wasted time tearing each other down.

Yeah, you're right. I was considering doing another shorter cut soon, not even 3 months after my previous 96 day one ended, but I don't know if I need that. After all, I am getting back into more barbell training and actually working hard, rather than doing a bunch of DB stuff all the time. The reason I might want to cut some more, however, is to be able to bulk for a lot longer without having to cut for as long as I did last time. I'm not sure. We'll see how I feel. I am probably still around 15% bodyfat, maybe 16%. I got down to 13.4%, which is a PR for me as a lifter.

I mean the one about intensity I do like a 12/10 but I rest 3 days a week and eat 1.5 grams of protein per pound of body weight and I think it has to do with age and genetics as I am 14 and when I started at 11 I put on 20 pounds in 4.5 months of low intensity, not bulking too heavy and skipping days frequent but now I never miss a day and I do on DL for example 4 set of 10 then 4 sets of 8 then 4 sets of 6 then 4 sets of 4 and on for each rep range the last two I am having the weight stoping going up half way cuz it get so heavy

Have you tried going to bed earlier??? Because the first hour of your "sleep" you aren't even sleeping, so in reality you're sleeping 5 hours instead of 6, try going to bed earlier, because I've seen that even when I go to bed late the latest I'll wake up is 9am, I'm hard wired to wake up atleast at 9am. I think most people are hard wired to wake up at a certain time.

I agree there was some decent advice in that video however I can't stand when people say that this way is the only way to build muscle whatever it is eg this is the only rep range you need to build muscle and then going as far as calling people who advise utilising other rep ranges dickheads etc and probably guys who are far more knowledgeable and experienced than him. He's the typical young dude that has had some relative success and thinks he has the world figured out. Cycling through different rep ranges is a great way to maximise muscle growth as it is introducing a new stimulus on a regular basis. One of my favourite things about this show is you guys never say that anything is the only way to do things you always keep an open mind because you've all been around long enough to know that you probably still don't know everything there possibly is to know even though you are some of the most knowledgeable guys in the industry. Who’s saying that training to failure is overtraining?

to be honest, I didn't bulk, i'm doing my first bulk ever right now this winter and I've built an impressive physique over the past year of lifting seriously even with a break over the summer cuz i can't afford a membership. I just exercised as a kid, I did lots of pushups and pullups and squats, I would bike instead of run because of my asthma, and I just worked a lot. I dug up hard clay dirt with a shovel and pickaxe with my dad for a garden when I was 7, maintained it every day, put in an underground irrigation system, and when I was 12 I dug a 100 foot long 2 foot deep trench for a french drain. I trained BJJ for 3 years in a dojo and have kept it up for 6 more years after. I'm 16 now and never bulked, I just drink protein shakes for lunch, skip breakfast so I'm not stressing out my metabolism, and I eat a huge dinner, sometimes twice per day. I didn't start lifting until i was 15, but i've kept a healthy and active lifestyle. you don't need to bulk to gain muscle, but it does help. you need fuel, but you don't need to gain a bunch of fat at the same time. I'll start eating more in the winter usually out of habit but I work harder, and I end up gaining muscle while only putting on a couple pounds of fat. since im still growing the extra weight, since i'll gain 15 solid pounds all winter but only cut 5 pounds and still be shredded, I think the extra nutrients go to my bones since I have a slight genetic weakpoint of lower bone density. I like to think that I just did my bulking as a little kid when I was still short and chubby, and now I'm just healthy. I stay at about 10-12% bodyfat and work out my abs so they pop better and I don't hurt my hormone levels at my age trying to get down to 5-6%. what I'm saying to everyone out there my age is just stay healthy.

I am 18 and I kinda have the love handles even if I am 17% body fat, now I now it’s not a low body fat but not even too much to have love handles, as you can see from my pp( profile picture) I am an active mentally unstable consistent gym goer and I don’t know at this point, in this winter weather I should bulk or not. I am kinda strong even if I am on a cut ( about 1000 calorie deficit) so I don’t know if I should bulk this winter any tips?

what about guys like me who are skinny fat? I am like 20% bodyfat + so gaining more fat just seems really unhealthy?

Bulking is for skinny people. If you are skinny fat you have enough mass to build muscle

Why is that still so hard to understand. Greg only says that You First should Resch a healthy fat-procentage. And from there maingain. Means: stay at the Same fat- procentage. And mit: do Not gain weight. He only wants people to stay away from jojo dieting. Because Most of people wouldn't shred the right way and loose all the gained muscles again.

I used to get by great on half the sleep, party all night and PR in the gym the next day. It was called being 23 years old. Holler at me when you’re 43 and your swallowing 20 different supplement pills to try to keep your test levels at a healthy high end range if even that. Love the podcast, another classic, hope everyone has a great day

Millennials and older gen Z were lucky to have so much legit fitness information thanks to long form youtube videos. Now with tiktok and ig it's back to listening to shredded guys that don't know what they're talking about.
