Vertebra or vertebral bones are stacked one on top of another in a straight and neutral alignment from the front. The vertebrae are separated by intervertebral discs, which act as a shock absorber or cushion in between two bones.
The main areas of the spine are the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. Bone spurs can occur in any part of the spine and typically occur where the bone meets the discs either above or below.
The bone spur does not generally cause pain. The pain occurs when the bone spur starts to press against other parts. Symptoms are determined by the patient factors such as age, severity, location, and cause. In some cases, they can affect joints, and they become painful since they decrease the range of motion. As they get bigger, they can limit motion, which leads to stiffness and pain. When in the spine, it can affect the nerves and then affect what is controlled by such nerves.
The most common cause or diagnosis associated with bone spurs is osteoarthritis which is also called degenerative joint disease. Often this is a cause of misalignment, compression as a result of gravity, and when there are alignment issues, the section of the spine will present degenerative changes faster than the rest of the spine.
Treatment for bone spurs is case specific, but the most common is medications and drugs to treat the symptoms of the condition. This does not treat the underlying cause; it just reduces the pain. Adjusting the spine into better alignment to stop the vertebral bones from putting pressure can greatly help improve the symptoms the patient is experiencing as well as slow down the progression. This can help improve mobility and pain and return alignment to its normal curvature to stop this accelerated damage in the area. Effective treatment for bone spurs is done by treating the cause of the bone spurs on their underlying symptoms.

Please advise what will happen to broken spurs in the cspine area due to motorvehicle accident. These breakages are at C5 6 and 7.I also have a spinal lesion in the same are also due to the accident.I did not have any previous pain or inflammation.I am 63 years old,male with an ecsellent bill of health until the accident.The whiplash also caused damage and loss of gearing to both ears.

Thank you for explanation of bone spurs..can they also be caused by trauma to the body..4yrs ago February 2020.. I was involved in a violent T-bone car accident..that I was lucky enough to have survived..I was 47yrs old at the time..will be 51 in February..this happened during work..I was a delivery driver..I 've been in pain for the 4yrs of the lower back..lumbar area ..very painful to walk for long periods of time..unavailable to enjoy the daily activities that I did before.,the only reason I found out that I had bone spurs was due to the fact..my regular doctor not workers comp doctor..send me to get an x-ray to see what was going on..He was concerned..prior to this..I had no issues with lower back & area..so besides old age & arthritis & worn-out..can they be caused by traumatic car accident..thank you

Unfortunately aggressive chiropractics (3x a week with traction table also) has done nothing for me but decimate my wallet I am literally out of money with only worsening symptoms to the point I can earn zero $ now. Can’t sit stand or walk w/o awful symptoms (only one of which is pain at narcotics level but I refuse to take narcotics), driving is very difficult. I’m not getting an op if it was free even. I’m very depressed and holding on to sanity only becuz He holds my hand.

I believe I’m going through this same thing it’s horrible I feel like a failure sometimes I believe I’ll soon get fired from my part time job I can barely do I can’t even sleep ad to that my horrible migraines I’ve also struggled with depression severe one I had 2 head injuries as a kid I believe it’s from that the hardest part is to remain sane with all the troubles and responsibility’s we have me having to small children to take care of i know how you feel but you know what I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!
