I Just wanted to say that I found your channel a couple of weeks ago and I'm completely addicted. I really enjoy your videos. I find your opinions honest and very human. You have a been a really good company during these hard times. :) I love that edition of Shogun. I Personally read a 1976 edition that has been read by my grandfather, my father and both my siblings and I had to be very careful not to break it apart but I loved the book! Enjoy your reading!

@@cmmosher8035 the story kind of flies by in the manga, theres very little filler in it so the plot is always progressing in some way. id recommend giving the manga a try sometime. the artwork is arguably the best in manga and only gets better the more you read, also the story overall just hits harder it seems, it feels like im watching a movie when i read it lol easy to binge read

Revelation Space is one of the best, most satisfying SF books I've ever read. The next two books Redemption Ark and Chasm City are also great. Absolution Gap is good but not as good. I would love to see you review Alastair Reynolds.

Great podcast, love seeing all your book hauls. I have a grandson on the sprectrum that just finished Gardens of the Moon and now on to Malazan. He also likes the Larger size paperbacks but not easy to find which he has to order them. We now have great book conversations about what you and your readers like! I watched Lock & Key, but thanks for the tip to read the books instead. 👍

Shogun is excellent, the other books in his Asian saga are also very good. I just bought A Memory Called Empire and A Desolation Called Peace by Arkady Martine, Red Moon by K.S. Robinson and Synners by Pat Cadigan. I loved the A. Martine books, great SF.

The entire Shogun series is awesome. Protip: Read Shogun and then watch the 1980 Shogun movie. They don't do subtitles for everything and you will notice that you picked up some Japanese just by reading the book.

Chuck Wendigs sci-fi apocalypse book that came out in 2019, Wanderers was one of my two favorite books I read last year in 2020. Id highly recommend. I preordered his next one too.

I read "On the day that you were born" when I was younger. It isn't specifically targeted toward disabled persons. It's just a book that really celebrates the beauty of birth and life.

Magician was one of those novels that was originally meant to be one book but if was large enough it got split into Apprentice and Master. I remember really enjoying it when I was in my late teens on the 90s. I picked up the 12 Kings and read it this March. I actually really enjoyed it. I have picked up the rest of the paperbacks. Apparently, the last book is out this summer so its nice to have a completed series.

Mike, after you finally get back to Beowulf do yourself a favor and read John Gardner’s book “Grendel.” It is the story of Beowulf but told from the perspective of the monster, Grendel. And it is fantastic.

Seamus Heaney's version is excellent. There are so many different translations. I own three. Heaney, Tolkien and a new translation by Maria Dahvana Headley. I'm planning to read (and re-read) all of them come Autumn/Winter because it always feels like a story to tell on cold, winter nights.

RE: Riftwar... There are 30 books in that universe, but they are broken up into smaller series, mostly trilogies. I would recommend reading the first 13 books for sure. After that, the quality does drop a little. Riftwar, Empire, Krondor's Sons, and Serpentwar are all pretty stellar. The Empire trilogy is a companion story to Riftwar, taking place at the same time but told from the other side of the conflict. I enjoyed it, but one of my friends refused to read it because it makes the enemy from Riftwar a bit more sympathetic.

I'll be curious to see what you think of "To Sleep In a Sea of Stars". I loved The Inheritance Cycle and was super excited for a new Paolini book, but I found it too long, and pretty boring with a stupid, immersion shattering ending.

Actually just read Carrie and ‘Salem’s Lot for the first time given your passion for King. Carrie I found to be okay but damn, ‘Salem’s Lot was fantastic. It holds up really really well. It would rank in the top 3 of King’s books for me that I’ve read, up there with The Stand and IT.

Yes Mike! You're going to love Vinland Saga and of course Berserk just gets better from The Golden Age arc, I can't wait to hear your thoughts on that one. Another recommendation I'd like to make is Monster by Naoki Urasawa. It's an absolute masterpiece full of mystery, eerie themes and very interesting commentary on human nature, you could also give the anime a shot which was very well done. Manga is definitely quicker to read though. Monster has one of the most intriguing antagonists I've come across and I believe you might enjoy this work a lot.

Hey Mike, I'm about to ruin your TBR and apologize in advance. Have you ever looked into the Delphi Classics collections on Kindle? They're dirt cheap, and have the complete works of some major "classic" authors (a few I think you would be excited for include Lovecraft and Stoker). I just checked, and the complete Lovecraft is $2. (This is the reason my Kindle is so full....)
