After being injured in the Vietnam War, Ron Kovic (Tom Cruise) returns home to a Veteran’s Administration that is less than sympathetic. Though Ron attempts to cope by drinking and dancing at a bar, his wounds run deep and reality quickly sets in as he recalls all of the promises that were made to him before entering the war.

Film Synopsis:
Tom Cruise delivers a riveting and unforgettable portrayal of Vietnam veteran Ron Kovic in Oliver Stone's Academy Award®-winning masterpiece. Based on a true story, the acclaimed film follows the young Kovic from a zealous teen who eagerly volunteers for the Vietnam War, to an embittered veteran paralyzed from the mid-chest down. Deeply in love with his country, Kovic returned to an environment vastly different from the one he left, and struggled before emerging as a brave new voice for the disenchanted.

They missed the best part of this scene. After all this, Kovic's father helps him to bed, all the anger and frustration drained from him, and he tearfully asks his father, "Who's going to love me, Dad? Who's going to love me?"

Everyone played these scenes beautifully. Tom as the vet beyond any consolation, the religious mother who refuses to acknowledge the injustice brought upon their son and the other young men of his generation, and his father.. just trying to keep his boy held together at the seams before he loses him for good.. it's all just so damn much and the saddest part is that thousands of Americans live this exact same life.

I totally agree. His performance in this film was masterclass, no jumping on building, hanging off planes, or flying in jets saying great balls of fire, just pure acting under brilliant director Oliver stones direction. The casual movie goer will say yeah, DDL is better, but people need to watch this movie to realise how good of an actor Tom cruise is based on his performance alone as Ron Kovic.

You start to realize most wars have no reason. Just ego-driven maniacs in power who think the World should work a certain way. Either you're on the defensive end of their rage or behind the driving force of it. Willingly or otherwise. Tomorrow it will be the veterans who served in Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Latvia, or whatever other countries get dragged into this ongoing escalation.

Why is the word being F being blocked out? In England PISSED is a curse word - I am nearly 40 and I and everyone else has a RIGHT to see truth as depicted on films as brave as this. In fact its been shown that saying F in healthy for the human mind. Whats more offensive? Having a man killed or paralysed or letting him speak - as if little kids dont already know these words. I ve never known ANYTHING more pathetic that this site. I own the film - but I like to see scenes from it to remind me what humanity is capable of. Thank you for trying unsuccessfully to white wash it.

I was actually living in Dallas, TX where this awesome masterpiece was filmed. I watched as they built the sets on the streets for the first 4th of July parade scene; and how real those buildings looked to the naked eye . I saw Tom Cruise in the prom scene with Kyra Sedgwick, the recruiting scene with Tom Berringer and the parade scene. I truly feel that Tom Cruise is definitely one of the best actors of my time. Even with seeing him perform, and not just for the eyes of the camera, but to see him work in person was an ultimate rush for me and I'm certain for everyone else standing there . Director and perfectionist Oliver Stone was unparalleled in his work on this movie. Although Daniel Day Lewis won the academy award for best actor that year which was excellent in its own right; I do believe that Tom Cruise should have totally won that Oscar.

Now all I saw was him being callous and hard in a bar because you're "supposed" to be tough. I don't quite agree with him because I thought the draft was mandatory. Plus, it's easy for him to say, having survived with no injuries in his fake world. I don't think a real marine would ever DARE say such a thing to another wounded vet. How? At this moment, Ron was being beyond belligerent. The best thing for him at that moment would be hard love and rest.

Not for nothin….the marine playing pool had a lot of solid points.

Not for nothing, but no he didn't. Ron spoke the truth and the marine got all bent out of shape. That's always what happens because people don't want to hear the the truth. The marine is clueless as to what was going on. WWII and Vietnam were worlds apart both figuratively and literally. In,politics, ideals, government, public opinion, national sentiment, morality and ethics.

The girl who you see plays Piper from Charmed who by sad news lost her best friend on the 13th day of July just like Piper lost Prue who was angry only her older sister abandoning her. But good news I've got to see her best friend in Houston in person and I've finally got to meet her in Dallas.

2:04 a misstake from Ron Kovic there. What he should have done there at that moment was saying Thank you to that Iwo Jima veteran, then next day take a haircut and restart his life. Instead he could not take the bashing he actually deserved.

He has to learn to "relove" himself...only then can someone else love him. There is no love that can fix and heal this atleast none that can come from a woman...it has to come straight from God and it has to be accepted. Otherwise he will just destroy every woman who would try to love him because he is still on his own path of destruction 😢.
