Bouncing for Blue Catfish Below Spillway! Catch, Clean, Cook!

We were bouncing cut shad on the bottom for Blue Catfish and caught a TON! There was a lot of current coming through the spillway which had the Blues stacked up below the dam in this fast moving current! Did a Catch, Clean, Cook for Blue Catfish!

Fishing that eddy across from your position is holding bigtime. It would be easier bringing them in. The are some 20-30 pounders woring that eddy. You can cast right to the middle of the eddy with a bump or a carolina rig with braid main and fluoro leader.

great area, i go rock crawling there in the spring/summer. lots of deep pockets and holes there

You should have tried spooning for some. When they're really eating shad like that, they'll smack a spoon.

I thought the same thing, tried a 1/2 oz through there multiple times but didn’t get a hit. Can’t say I tried it for long though

That place is also excellent for white bass and hybrids (wipers, depending on where you're from). By the boat ramp on the opposite side is a good spot to snag spoonbill.

You catch wiper below the oologah dam? Around where we were fishing or down a little bit more?

@@ThatsAGoodFish Oh yeah, there's definitely wiper in the Verdigris :) That spillway is one of my fave spots to fish, and I typically position myself about 50ft away from the wings of the dam. Most of what I catch are white bass (sand bass), a few wipers here and there, a random striper (small ones though), and random crappie. I once caught a 6 pounder at Oologah Dam that fought like hell the entire time, so much so that as I was about to secure it on my stringer, it flopped hard about 2ft and got away. At Lock and Dam 18 further down river, I've also caught some.

I know some good spillways for some good spillway fishin. Definitely never fished for blues this way. I need to try this.

You will occasionally get hung up but with the current it keeps the weight bouncing enough that it’s not very often.
