This is great! Our 10 month old amstaff is guarding our table when we sit on terraces, I've just had a go at starting the whistle training! She was scared of the whistle but 5 minutes of whisle + cheese + sausage and we have a happy Rita following me around - I think this is going to make our life outside far less stressful!

I never grab the collar like this, no matter what! I can't be harsh with my dog. At the beginning I was a little too soft, but calm firmness is everything. I correct my dog before he is in his red zone. A dog owner knows exactly at what point they get there & when they stop listening.

Working with treats is a really great way to train dogs! My dog is getting more relaxed every day around other dogs and she even made a lot of friends this way. When I'm going too fast she starts barking while chewing on the treat 😅 She always takes them. I'm learning every day with these videos, thank you for uploading!

When Victoria left and the owners lost control of Cooper on the back porch, they both had whistles around their necks! Not once did either of them go inside and blow the whistle for him to come and get a treat. The whistle is associated with a treat AND it would've distracted Cooper. That would've got him inside to settle down. Why didn't they use the whistle?? It's so frustrating to watch.. Then, wait inside for 5 minutes, go back out, and try again. The training WILL NOT WORK if you don't use the tools and techniques you're given!

This is how my dog reacts to other dogs on walks and its freaking embarrassing

My dog never reacted to other dogs when he was on the leash. When someone barked, he just looked confused... He is a social butterfly & always wants to get to know everyone. Until just recently, when he was attacked while on a hike off the leash. He wasn't bitten, but he had deep scratches & bruises all over. He now just started to bark at dogs. What I do is, that as soon as I see a dog, I calm him down before he looks & concentrates on him. I make him sit, caress him & tell him what a good boy he is. When he still gets nervous and pulls on the leash, I stand in front of him, to signal that I got the situation under control. Dogs often times want to defend the owner when another dog approaches. When I get nervous & hold him close to me, he thinks he needs to take over to control the situation.

whitexchina Thank you so much for advice! I try making him sit but as soon as the dog gets close he refuses to sit because he is in “i must protect” more. He is a 13lb chiweenie so it’s funny when he thinks he needs to protect me from labs and other dogs that walk by. I think he might lose that battle 😂 I also thought it was funny when he thought he needed to protect me from a yorkie half his size. He is a rescue so I don’t know what his past is and maybe that plays a part in it. I just bought a treat pouch for my waist for training on walks. Wish me luck. The only trainer near me who does dog aggression/reactivity charges $1,000 and that’s not happening.

You know I wish I had known this show existed back in 2008-2009. Back then I lived with my uncle and his family bc my school was close by and my mom worked abroad. They had a dog who was pretty aggressive. Only my uncle and my cousin were allowed to feed her. She's usually cooped up at the balcony bc my uncle couldn't take her for a walk without getting aggressive with anyone and anything that passes that aren't him (and Filipino households are almost always outside their houses). Even the family wasn't too safe. So whenever she escapes the balcony, and everyone is in the living room (right next to the balcony) everyone would suddenly grow quiet. Feet up on the sofa and no one dared move or make eye contact. She ignores people who are still but it's still terrifying. My other cousin likened it to "a t-rex in Jurassic Park". I once was stuck at one of the steps of the stairs because she escaped while I was walking down the steps it was scary. If I had known this show existed back then, I could've been able to help. Of course under supervision of my uncle. That way at least, I could've helped out in her care since she was a pretty old dog. And I really wanted to because I really wanted to get to know her at least :(

I bred and raised Boxers 30 years . When the woman refocused Coopers attention to the dog below, is when the boxer went ballistic . The owner sabotaged the dogs training . Obviously the owner does not know how to socialize or train dogs ....

I am very curious to see how this dog turns out at the end of the episode. And I wish I could know how he stayed After Victoria left. While I'm all for positive training as it clearly does work, I think this dog needs some balanced training with corrections as well. Needs more sternness at times, not just happy redirecting hyping the dog up. In my opinion, it might work different for all their other dogs, just not Cooper. (I mean but hey, it was more the owners that needed retraining really anyways, as usual. So good job Victoria. lol)
