@GilbertSyndrome9 жыл бұрын
True, but you can build your shoulders in so many better and more efficient ways, tho. Trying to build your shoulders using a speedbag isn't generally a sure-thing. Shadow-boxing with handweights is better, imo, and it gets you used to wearing bigger gloves and keeping your hands up during the fight. I do like using the speedbag, tho.

My speed bag at home is the best friggin upper body ENDURANCE tool I own. It absolutely SMOKES my front delts and rotator cuffs, both of which have been surgically repaired from other injuries. I've worked my way up from only a few punches to 20-25 seconds of constant striking, and each "set" leaves me absolutely worn out. The speed bag has rehabbed both shoulders and taught me just how out of aerobic shape I really was. Once the light bulb in your head turns on to the "rhythm" aspect, you suddenly want to hit the damn thing until you can't lift your arms anymore. When someone sees you hitting one, especially other MEN, they instantly assume you're a "boxer" and won't start any trouble. I've literally had a couple punks at my local gym conspire to "test me" after they saw me talking to a girl one of them was dating, and it was obviously it pissed them off. So I clobbered the speed bag for a few minutes and their reaction was hilarious. An instant "OH SHIT! He's a BOXER! We better not fuck with him!"

Turning the hands over, snapping the jab and right cross with perfect form. Also i never have to drop my hands. It has definitely helped shoulder endurance.

It might help with speed, hence speed bag. Definitely with endurance and of course timing. Muhammad Ali did 5-7 rounds daily while in camp. Many of the best of all time happened to be very good at it. You name all the top fighters in recent memory and I bet 98%+ were very skilled with high intensity speed bag work.
@cartoonhanks17085 жыл бұрын
Supposedly the speed bag was made by Jack Dampsey to develop timing for counters and hard hits because hitting it hard makes it move faster. So using successive punches that are all hard would make it move very quickly. The object is to make it move fast without contradicting your stance or power.
@seanwilliams4804 жыл бұрын
I agree. I have three different size speed bags right now. Hitting the big one, a 10" x 12" really takes a lot more power to make it move fast. With the smallest bag the effort isn't much more than if you were doing the same motion without the bag. With a big bag, the bag is heavy and requires quite a bit more force to make it smash into the platform and spring back fast. You can't just put your hands through the motions and keep the bag flying. You have to really hit it with power. You can become a lot harder hitter with a big speedbag. It will give you true knock-out power.

The speed bag helps significantly with hand and eye coordination. It also helps with reflexes. Hand and eye coordination is very important in fighting. The speed bag helps you hit a moving target with better accuracy. Better reflexes will help you bob and weave and parry punches with your fists.

Speedbag was the original punching bag.. there were no heavy bags till Jack Dempsey started using a duffle stuffed with clothes in his hobo days. In the 19th century they had a striking bag, basically a leather soccer ball suspended from an overhead platform, and that is what they would hit as a training dummy… then it became obsolete and essentially a novelty item because they were already in every gym and people had to come up with uses.

There's a HUGE difference between a quality PLATFORM and a junk platform. Most of the bags you can buy will be good. But if the platform is not ROCK SOLID, with almost zero movement, it's gonna screw up any rhythm you hope to get. That's why you almost always see speed bag platforms in the top boxing gyms made out of really thick, heavy wood. And why you almost always see a bunch of sandbags on top of them. It's to prevent vibration, twisting and any other movement that will disrupt the rhythm of the bag.
