Omg my dentist too!!!! Today I got power chain and he didn’t tell me and before the appointment my first molar bracket broke so he put that thing over that molar so the upper tooth won’t touch that tooth so the bracket still stays I thought it was filling cuz it’s white like when u have a cavity the dentist fills them like that feeling . And now I can’t close my teeth and can’t chew anything at all so how am I supposed to eat?? I’m gonna have to go there tomorrow to thinner that filling

For everyone who is getting these/recently got these, it’s really not as bad as you think! All the other comments are saying how terrible they are, but once you have them for about a week (or even less) they just become a part of ur mouth and you can’t tell they’re there. I know your teeth won’t be able to touch, but the turbo bites can act as teeth and chew for you. Just remember, as bad as Turbo bites might seem at the moment, they’ll get better and they help speed up your teeth situation, the result will be worth it! I hope I helped 👍👍

Yeah, no they are indeed terrible. Mine are quite large-to the point where I can almost fit my tongue through my teeth because the gap is so large. I can barely eat. I can’t bite into things with my front teeth, I can’t grind food with my back teeth (only between the bite pads) and I can’t “feel” the food because the bite pads have no nerves like my teeth do. It’s as if there’s a wooden plank stuck between your top and bottom teeth every time you try to eat LOL

Secondly, I'll share my story with the bite turbos I have... which are not exactly bite turbos, but similar. They feel quite big and pointy on the back of my front teeth and they challenged me at the beginning because they affected my speech in the first days and they are also stopping my molars from touching so I cannot properly chew much. At the beginning this was very difficult, especially due to the unexpected nature of this. Still, I was surprised how quickly I got used to them once I understood what I have to do to adapt, like the kind of foods I can eat. I was feeling frustrated because I wanted to still enjoy a variety of foods and I fell quite self-conscious about the way I was speaking, but I learned to focus on what I still find enjoyable and guess what... cake is super easy to eat even with those and they are a great excuse to indulge :))). Wish you all an easy braces experience and whenever you feel down about the discomfort, just take a look in the mirror and realize that even as you stay and do nothing, your teeth are moving into the right position and it totally pays off :D:D:D!

I’m 20 months into my braces and I got turbos to help fix my cross bite and basically I’ve already been eating sandwiches and chips. My friends, the turbos won’t hurt (it’s probably the tightening or the new placement of brackets on your teeth that hurts). It is uncomfortable but you’ll get used to it very soon!!

Dr. Greg I e had bite turbos going on 3 months (same amount of time I’ve had braces) after about a month, right before my first adjustment, I started “clenching” or “grinding” my teeth. My front bottom teeth hit the back of my top teeth when I’m talking or chewing!! I have a constant small headache and jaw pain... plus I’ve noticed my bottom teeth have “arched” up in a sense... they used to straight across at the bottom now there’s a “hump” or arch in the front... is this from the clenching?

Love your videos! Been subscribed since the hundreds :) So what is a good solution for someone that has gaps between every tooth? My husband is terrified of dentists and I am trying to encourage him to visit one for a consultation. He is afraid that if they bring all of his teeth together he will have major gapping towards the back. Is there a solution for this?

A consultation is generally just with a mirror so nothing scary there! Regarding space closure, most people will never notice any "gap" towards the back. Generally we bring the front teeth backwards but it is all case-dependent so it's kinda tough to answer without an exam! Have him go in and get a consult - he's got nothing to lose!

I just watched all of your most popular videos, very informational, thank you! I'm 26 and I got braces April 12th, 2022. I didn't understand the purpose of the bite turbos and so I had my orthodontist shave them down almost all the way. Just today I noticed that one of my front tooths is slightly chipping from making contact with the bracket below it. Very minimal chipping that's why I did not notice. I plan to make an appointment to get the bite turbos put back in but after the braces procedure is there a way for my orthodontist to "file" my tooth down just a tiny bit?

I just got bite turbos on my back teeth this morning- its because we're trying to bring a top tooth forward, but theres a bottom tooth blocking it. The "blue glue" they called it, makes space so that top tooth can move without being locked in by the bottom

Awesome video Dr. Grey. I have bite turbos for two reasons, one to bring the maxillary right second molar forward a little and secondly to bring the maxillary right canine forward which is way very backward, which looks very bad. I just got that backward canine tooth bonded to the bracket and tied to the archwire with a long metallic ligature, which is there to pull it forward. Initially I felt like the ligature is really working good because of the pressure, but that pressure just faded away after a few days and now I don't feel any pressure of being pulled, so it feels like the tooth movement has stopped & it is going to take many days to come forward...huhh. Sorry for the long narration. I am sure I don't feel any pressure because I got used to it. I would like to know how these bite turbos are removed at the end? Also would like to know the types of archwires, viz. Ti-Ni, SS, Beta chromium, etc. and their respective mechanism. As the Ti-Ni and Beta chromium wires are heat activated, their mechanism can be understood, but how does the SS wire work? I am really curious to know that. Thank you so much for your great videos. You don't know how excited I am always to see your videos, as they really get me acquainted with this magical orthodontic treatment.

The bite turbos are removed with a handpiece and a drill, being careful to avoid the tooth structure. You don't need to be anesthetized and won't feel it, so don't worry! =]

Hi Dr, the main disadvantage of tubes over bands is retention. There is a higher chance of debond on molar tubes than bands but I too agree that they are more hygienic and comfortable for patients

Hi!! Super late to the game.. but, i got braces on October of 2019 and had my bite bumpers applied probably just a few weeks after because I have a pretty deep bite. So, I’ve had my bite bumpers on for a WHILE already.. they’re on my bottom premolars, and just this week the left side has become so unbearably sore and painful to touch. That poor premolar is miserable and so am I. My question is, is this something to be of concern? Should I see my ortho?? Or is this random awful, terrible, sensitive soreness normal after a couple months???

Hi, new to the braces team, I got my bite turbos removed about a month ago from my lower back molars but I still see some blue residue stuck on my teeth and I'm concerned. Does it go away with time or should I tell my orthodontist to go at it again with the drill? Thanks in advance

I got one on a lower tooth because I used to have an expander on my upper jaw and got braces after removing the expander but since a bracket broke off and weeks passed because me and my orthodontist left the country I had to fix the tooth that went back to it's old position and today after a month I am getting it off, I am actually watching videos about it because I am scared of orthodontist, dentists in general but want to fix my teeth knowing every step of the process .

It depends on the type of bite you have now and what your orthodontist is trying to achieve - sorry for the ambiguity but there is quite a bit that goes into it biomechanically

Hi Dr.Greg love your video all the time. If bite turbo is on the specific tooth, wouldn't the tooth be intruded? go inside?

That's a great question! Usually when all the teeth are in braces, the tooth with the turbos wont be intruded because the whole arch is serving as one. Also, it takes a very consistent force to intrude a tooth and usually you are not biting on your turbo all day!

I have a deep bite and got Incognito lingual braces, so bite turbos were non-negotiable for me. However, since they are part of the custom brackets (check out how incognito works) they are manufactured based on your actual teeth shape and they are not uncomfortable at all. They've actually improved my occlusion and I can feel my TMJ is less engaged than before. Give it time and you will get used to them.

Do posterior and anterior turbos do different things? I’ve just got an anterior turbo put on and I’m really struggling with the pressure of my entire bite being on only one tooth, as well as my back teeth are so far apart, I have zero chewing surface, my bite is about 1cm apart. I can only eat mashed potatoes, soup and yogurt. The lisp is also driving me crazy, I’m a teacher and part-time singing teacher as well as recording songs as a hobby and it’s ruining everything, I’m really starting to wonder if this whole braces thing is worth it. Could they switch to turbos on the back teeth or do they do a different job?

Hi! I got my bite turbos yesterday and I couldn’t chew. I realize I was slowly having an underbite now because I couldn’t collide my teeth together now to eat. Is that fine? Is that what it is suppose to do? To help develop an underbite to even it?

Thank you for the very detailed video!! I got my braces last month and had to unfortunately get bite turbos on my back molars because I have an overbite. I was originally supposed to just get my bottom braces first, then my top braces after my overbite has been corrected. I chose to get bite turbos instead to speed up the treatment time but man it sucked so bad in the beginning!! LOL. I got a lisp and don’t even get me started with the difficulty I had with eating 🤣 All is well now, a month later I’m very used to it.. I just chew much much slower now. The only dislike I currently have is the changes it had on my jaw and facial structure. My face looks a lot longer than usual and my jaw feels a little sore sometimes and I think its because I’m unable to fully close my jaw (I can barely smile with my lips fully closed!). Do you think this is just temporary and it’ll eventually go back to normal Doc? Thanks for your input!!

I had to get them cause I have a cross bite. They don't necessarily hurt, it would be hard to know the difference anyway, but they make it where I can't really use my back teeth to chew. I've just learned to eat things that can be swallowed. Mine are tooth colored.

Hello doctor, I have a question about the bite turbos.. When I first got braces my ortho place the turbos on my back teeth and yes I can accept it.. But now in my fifth appointment she placed the turbos back of my 2 front teeth and it became losses when I bite on the turbos.. Is it normal??

Awesome vid! Please please please can you do a vid on damon braces in comparison to traditional ones. I got mine on the nhs. I didn't ask for damon braces, it just kinda happened and I didn't know what they were until I got mine on and did some research. The only sad part about it is that because they don't need elastic bands as ligatures I don't get to choose any colours.

Hi doc. I got braces 3 days ago but only on my upper teeth since they overlap my lower teeth. My ortho said I have to wait a couple of months before they put braces on my lower teeth. So I'm now seeing this video and wondering why my ortho didn't mention bite turbos. Are they always necessary?

Terryann Floyd i know im not a doc but i have the same case. I been told that your lower teeth cure faster than the upper ones and they place the braces on the upper arch so that you have less pain to deal with. Also if your teeth a super crowded bite turbos might not work so well i suppose

Sometimes we have a lot more work to do in 1 arch compared to the other so we don't want to keep you in braces forever in the other arch. That may be why your doc only put them on your front teeth for now and will start with your lower teeth once he/she expects there will be = amount of time left on the top and bottom =] Hope that helps! I also only got my top brackets initially. the bottom edge of my top row of teeth completely cover my bottom teeth and then continue nearly halfway down my gums. my ortho was hoping to open up the top arch so that he could fit brackets on the bottom without hitting any teeth but after two months that wasn’t the case. I actually had to fight a bit to have them apply my bottom brackets because they didn’t want to give me bite turbos since they can be uncomfortable, especially in my case. and they definitely were at first because of the big gap between my bite but I’ve gotten used to them a bit more. some foods are really hard to chew. mine are on my front teeth and give me a bit of a lisp also.

How do bite turbos impact teeth? I mean, when you have teeth filling (on the upper tooth, for example) which is made too big/high it can cause a trauma to the other tooth while you are chewing. And, is it bad if your bite turbos are placed on numbers 24 and 25 but half placed on teeth, half on your palate? I mean, because of skin on palate, or can bacteria somehow go between the bite turbo and palate?

What do you if both of the bite blocks have fell off? My upper teeth touch my lower teeth brackets and i cant chew anything because they are hitting each other when i try to chew
