Some of the other great songs on that tape I think would be worth checking out are Rockwell's "Obscene Phone Caller," Lionel Richie's "Hello," Chris DeBurgh's "Don't Pay the Ferryman," Cinderella's "Nobody's Fool," and the Stray Cats' "Stray Cat Strut." Hammer time! 🔨 😆 Rapper MC Hammer sampled this year's back, cool song, video "Can't Touch This". Check out songs and video from Rick James female protégé group Mary Jane Girls, pretty ladies and good songs and video. They were a funky R&B group. Like Ricky James music, had saxophone 🎷 solos, typical '70s, '80s, early '90s. James was a party animal, yall are right (RIP). Ended up having diabetes and heart issues when he got older, too much partying over the years caught up to him, especially harder drugs like cocaine and other stuff. He was only 56, 2004ish (heart attack I believe). He was a great singer, bass guitar player. Played funk rock music.. very funky. The ladies loved him, too. Check out more Rick James stuff.. "Ghetto Life" is a good one! "Give it to me, Baby" is another cool, funny video. He was from Buffalo, NY (near Canadian border) and teamed up with Neil Young (Toronto, Ontario Canada) and started up a Canadian R&B, garage rock band Mynah Birds back in the '60s! Check out their music, too.

That saxophone goes harder than today's NBA. (JK) Actually the playoffs have been good I think it's pretty cool that Rick gave a 'shout-out' to those that came before him (in this song; "Temptations sing!" ..) (old school group The Temptations) Rick did like 2 years in prison. He and his gf, got in trouble, for supposed "kidnapping, and holding a girl against her will", basically non-stop partying. Rick stated that he had a 10k/mo coke habit. He really lived his music and then some (: He seemed like a cool dude tho. He died in 2004, he was 56.

Rick made that song as a cold shot at tired white ppl: the song was designed, on purpose, to be a crossover hit - and went viral. Rick told his band: we need to write a song white ppl will dance to. If u listen to other RJ's songs they have much more soul. James' platform shoes, hair, drip, flow, etc. - were all ahead of their time. U do know that Hammer's #1 all-time hit sampled Rick James's hook, right? Look it up. Like Prince, James could do everything: write, arrange, play multiple instruments & sing - similar to Alicia Keys. James: transcendent icon - and a Navy veteran. #Respect

LOL ! I would like to meet the person who suggested the doll to sing "Superfreak" instead of "Mary had a little lamb" or something ! Predecessor to Prince in many ways. Rick could play guitar, bass, keyboards and drums. He also composed, arranged and produced himself, like Prince did. James was asked to join Crosby, Stills & Nash before they became Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. He declined but recommended Greg Reeves, who plays bass on Deja Vu - album. Rick James & Neil Young were at the same time in early band Mynah Birds. If you search them in tube, it makes sense that CSN asked James, the style is very different.

“Room 714, I’ll be waiting.” Rick James was referencing the drug methaqualone or brand name Quaalude. The drug was manufactured in the United States under the name Quaalude with the number 714 stamped on the tablet. Quaaludes became popular for recreational use in the late 1960s and 1970s in discos - where they were known as “disco biscuits” - and in juice bars. It is a central nervous system depressant that acts as a sedative and hypnotic. Hypnotics are drugs that induce sleep.
