this is the original, came out in 83. This is one of the most misinterpreted songs ever. It is about an obsessive stalker, but it sounds like a love song. Some people even used it as their wedding song. Sting explained: "I think it's a nasty little song, really rather evil. It's about jealousy and surveillance and ownership." Regarding the common misinterpretation of the song, he added: "I think the ambiguity is intrinsic in the song however you treat it because the words are so sadistic. On one level, it's a nice long song with the classic relative minor chords, and underneath there's this distasteful character talking about watching every move.

Yes....so true. It really is easy to get lost in the bubbly, poppy groove of this song cause somehow or another it does sound kind of 'happy' or upbeat...but once you listen to it and actually pay attention to the lyrics you're like 'Oh....oh ....OH dear'.... lol...and you're right, so many people just never picked up on that. Very much like back many years ago, I think it was one of the Bush camps while campaigning, started or tried for awhile to use Springsteen's 'Born In The USA' as their theme song....again, being completely clueless as to what was really being said in that song.... lol. ...woopsies... ... :P

The song was not originally written as a stalker song. This is clear from early Sting interviews, but the meaning changed for him over time. Him claiming at one point that it's a stalker song is revisionism - and he's also said at various points that it can be interpreted either way, as a love song or a stalker or surveillance song. Another interesting tidbit about this song is that, as the legends go, Andy Summers (guitarist) nailed this very delicate and complicated guitar part in one take. You can see in the video the crazy chord shapes he's making to keep that simple-sounding, relentless arpeggio pattern going so smoothly. Seek out the isolated guitar track sometime if you want your mind blown.

Brad & Lex, after B. I. G and Tupac passed away, P. Diddy covered this song in tribute to them. The song was named " I'll be missing you " featuring Eve, who is the voice you mentioned. Special guest on the track was Sting. The lead singer for the Police. That is why this song sounded familiar.

Written by Sting. Produced by The Police + Hugh Padghem. 1983. Sting: lead vocal, bass, synthesizers. Andy Summers: guitar, piano. Stewart Copeland: drums. The Police: backing vocals. Godley + Creme: direction of the video. Andy graduated from CSU Northridge in 1972. Stewart is the only American. 🇺🇲 Sting + Andy are British. 🇬🇧 The Police were in The Bahamas. Sting + Stewart Copeland were constantly arguing + laying temper tantrums. The infighting was so bad that Andy Summers left the house to look for help. Luckily, the late George Martin, producer of The Beatles, was nearby. Andy talked to George. His advice was relayed to Andy. Then, Andy returned. Sting + Stew stopped their bickering for the meantime. Meanwhile, Spandau Ballet was working on their album True on another side of the island! 😃 SB was on the rise! 🤯 1 year later, Sting met Spandau Ballet at the Band Aid recording session, London, UK. 🇬🇧 Yet, The Police was slowly breaking up. 😖😖😖 Sting + Stew could not even agree on how to play Every Breath You Take. 😖 This was a song on the final full studio album. Information c/o Andy Summers: I was at his book signing! 😃 Do not think of EBYT as only a stalker song: think of it as a break up of The Police + wishing the band was like it was on their 1st album. Sample. Puff Daddy sampled this. He made his rap into a tribute of Biggie Smalls. Guest singer is Faith Evans, widow of Biggie. RIP Biggie, Sir George Martin. Suggested next Police video: Synchronicity 2. 🎸🥁👨‍🎤🎸🎹 🇬🇧🇺🇲

Almost all of their tracks were huge hits before they split up. Sting (the singer) went on to have a very successful solo career. You should definitely check out more from the Police. Don’t Stand So Close to Me is a one with a clear story. Every Little Thing She Does is Magic is a great one. And Roxanne is an absolute classic. I love hip hop, but the original here is way better than the P Diddy and Faith Evans remake in tribute to Biggie.
