Hey Guys! "Nipple ring guy" is Dave Navarro and he was only a member of RHCP briefly, this one album was it then John Frusciante returned after a couple years off. Dave is the original guitarist from one of my top favorite alternative rock bands called Jane's Addiction. For those who are familiar with Dave and the work he did with JA will remember that he/they were quite "freaky", to put it mildly! Nipple ring(s) being the least of it, tbh. Peace & Love from Georgia, as always...looking forward to seeing your little one after the delivery.

@@bjam27 yeah, it was a very moody and introspective album as a whole... that was the time Tony was trying to kick the drugs IIRC (can't recall about Flea and Chad for sure, but i'm sure he was trying to get on the wagon), which was the exact reason John wasn't with them for that one. i do like most of their albums better than OHM, but i can't say it's bad either.

Dave also had a role in Sons of Anarchy. Got that Ink show. He had a lot of other exposures. One Hot Minute is a good album, but it’s a different Peppers. What’s interesting is now we have Josh, Dave, and John. Not just Dave and John. So now, he kinda keeps dropping. And as a Pepper fan, I’m grateful to Dave. The kids singing in the background at the end, is Flea's daughter and her classmates. A lot of RHCP fans didn't like Dave Navarro's playing on this album. While not a huge RHCP fan, I absolutely loved this album when it came out.

I feel stupid now, but after Hillel Slovak, John Frusciante, Jesse Tobias, and Frusciante again, I totally forgot that Dave Navarro was ever in RHCP! Which is weird because I *love* Navarro's work in Jane's Addiction. IMO he is a more innovative and versatile guitarist than Frusciante, but the latter admittedly is a perfect fit for RHCP.

Well... Navarro, DID this album. The other 3 where too high, and only conscious for some rehersals and recordings. Then Dave was the only one on the mixing and producing all day. They were going to split. Until Frusciante appeared again, and clean, couple of years later for "Californication".

This was from 1995... the album 'One hot minute' was a remarkable album, but it was apparently a difficult album to write and record... John Frusciante (guitar) had quit the band after the 1991 album 'Bloodsugarsexmagik'... a replacement was tricky to find. In 1994, Red Hot Chili Peppers hired former Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro... on paper, it sounded great... But in reality, it was a mismatch according to singer Anthony Kiedis... Still had great songs that get overlooked - 'My friends'... 'Warped'... 🔥🔥🤘🤘 In 1997, RHCP bassist Flea was in the Jane's Addiction reunion tour w/ Navarro, Perry Farrel (vocals) & Stephen Perkins (drums) ... but Dave Navarro was out of RHCP by 1998... Thankfully, guitarist John Frusciante went into rehab to kick his 'h' addiction, and by 1999, he was back in the band and recorded the comeback album 'Californication'.

rhcp peaked with their album blood sugar sex magik but that was one of the top albums of the early 90’s and it completely holds up

I don't know about the peaked thing. Under the Bridge was no doubt their best song but they put out a ton of great stuff from '99-'06. Maybe BSSM was their single best album but they put out a huge volume of great songs in that late '90, early 2000's period. Might be better to quantify it as "single album peak" vs career peak. Californiacation, Dani California, By the way, the Zephyr song, Scar Tissue, Can't stop, Otherside, just a whole library of great stuff in that period. Did you know that "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" was a homage to satanist Aleister Crowley? That was them openly selling their souls for fame and fortune and following the teachings of Crowley to get there.

I think like most people in the 90s, I became aware of RHCP in 91/92 when their 5th album, the first produced by Rick Rubin, gave us Give it Away and the video for Under the Bridge was constantly in the rotation on MTV. But for most of the 90s, Aeroplane was my personal favorite of their songs. Until Californication, their 7th album, dropped in '99 and blew all their previous success out of the water with Otherside, Scar Tissue, the title track and my new favorite at the time, Around the World, though Otherside and Californication have surpassed it over time. Then a few years later the next album gave us By the Way, Zephyr Song and Can't Stop, all of which I liked more than anything previous, as well as some beautiful, though less radio-friendly album tracks, like Venice Queen and Dosed. Truly peak Peppers '99 thru the mid-00s (i'm sure a lot of their older fans would disagree), though I'll always have a soft spot for Aeroplane.

"One Hot Minute" album gets a lot of flak because sheep like to ride John Frusciante's nuts (I like him a lot btw, but come on)...I personally think it's one of their best albums.

Most songs from RHCP irritate me these days considering how much airplay they've gotten over the years. This song and the other singles from this album, One Hot Minute, I love. Okay "Breaking the Girl" from these guys is good too. I thought Dave Navarro's style of guitar playing shook things up for the band, he's only on that album which I think is sad.

I haven't heard this song in a while, and admittedly, I wasn't paying attention to the reaction so much as singing the damn thing (to my cat, always the willing audience) while wearing headphones, because who cares about neighbours when you're belting out RHCP.
