I remember streaming this movie ages ago; I get that spooky spaces have certain rules, but whoever wrote/directed this movie took a *lot* of artistic license when it came to the space shuttle interiors XD. I do recall (after the whole Bermuda Triangle/Devil reveal) thinking that it actually would have been a great plot point for the characters to point out that the shuttle was way too big on the inside and explain/handwave it as an effect of the Triangle.

Another sych-up : Moody Blues and Elfquest comics. Listen to Moody Blues' "To our Children's Children's Children" album and read Elfquest. The themes in the album and the comic really sych up: The fire and flight from their home, the trials of living for an eternity, the initial innocence of the Elves as they learn a brutal lesson from the humans, their second flight from the desert etc.

The actor for Jennings was also Switek (or Zito? Not sure; could never tell them apart by name) on the "Miami Vice" TV show. And he chose to LEAVE that cash cow well before it was cancelled! Maybe because he got this script?!
@ComputerLearning0
@ComputerLearning0 7 жыл бұрын
I just mentioned that in my own post but yeah, that's John Diehl who played Detective Lawrence (Larry) Zito on *Miami Vice*. He and Stan Switek (Michael Talbot) were partners on the show. John Diehl left the show sometime in the third season (killed off actually) because he wanted to "do other things". Sadly none of it had as much fame as his time on *Vice*. The man with the glasses also appeared on one episode of *Vice* too (Indian Wars).
@skylx0812
@skylx0812 5 жыл бұрын
When Diehl left Vice he was making about $220k. But left because he didn't like the direction the show was heading in and wanted to try his luck in New York theater instead. He also had an interest in boxing and did that as well. He just seems like one of those people that would rather act and gain experience than be a famous celebrity. He's been working steadily ever since and is in projects still in production today. It does seem rather telling that he exited Vice being completely covered in cocaine.

That's John Diehl at 3:08. He played Detective Larry Zito on the ever popular *Miami Vice* but was killed off the show sometime in the third season (1987) because he wanted to leave and do "other things". Clearly his star never rose. It should be noted the man with the glasses also appeared on Miami Vice as well in the episode "Indian Wars".
@thebakerman1
@thebakerman1 3 жыл бұрын
I guess leaving Vice wasn't as lucrative as he thought it would be. I recall Don Johnson also couldn't wait to get off the show so he could go be a big movie star. While he fared better than Diehl, he never became the huge star I think he envisioned himself. I remember seeing an interview with Philip Michael Thomas (Tubbs) and he seemed to be the most content actor of the series. I always loved his attitude in that he was forever grateful to Miami Vice for putting him on the map and the lavish salaries they earned on the hit show. Thomas said he felt Vice could have gone another five seasons had the writing not gotten so ridiculously bad. Makes you wonder what could have been...

Excellent review. However, there's another movie just like this - G.R.R. Martin''s (yeah, the Game of Thrones guy) Nightflyers (1987). In this version, the hero is a girl played by Catherine Mary Stewart, the heroine from The Night of the Comet. And when I say just like this, that goes for the production value as well, unfortunately. Anyway, great idea for the next Halloween review, am I right?

I reckon this is your best review of all; re-watching it just made me realise the Only reason for having a "Dominatrix ship's computer" (instead of the usual "Mother...") is purely so Leslie-bot can deliver that line...the entire film is just a set-up for that, classic though it is! N.B. In "Alien", when they suit up to first investigate the Derelict, Capt. Dallas says he better "...break out the weapons..."; so if they've always had them why didn't they USE them later on? Choosing between a hull-puncture & having your face bit off is no choice at all, friends... anyone else ever notice that?

You know, if the bullets in those guns actually contain birdshot pellets instead of firing slugs, they can still be pretty deadly but with much less risk of puncturing the spaceships' hulls. I know they make birdshot pellets for .45 caliber handguns, which won't go through drywall into other rooms if fired indoors but will still hurt someone.
