The hurdy gurdy has got to be the most magical instrument I've ever seen and heard

This is what made me click the buy button :D
@LilFrg3 жыл бұрын
The click of the keys will never get old, somehow it makes the music feel more real? If that makes sense. To me the key clicks provide a grounding feeling, which is very comforting. Maybe I’m talking nonsense over here 😂
@michalina_malisz3 жыл бұрын
The clicking + reverb is just on another level 😂 Feels like playing in a well!

Similar in a way to a PC player and how many of them like the loud key clicks and the feel.

Nah I feel you it’s like when you can hear the sound of the picks swiping the strings on a heavily distorted electric guitar. Once you notice if you can’t unheard it and it sounds great

This song is very important to me, personally. Braveheart was an impactful movie when I was young. My wife and I loved it so much, we had a friend play it on bagpipes as she walked down the aisle on our wedding. Now, I get to look forward to playing it on a hurdy gurdy, as I have a saphona on order. Thank you Michalina.
@PunkDaddy-w8v11 ай бұрын
Same for me. My son learned to play this on the pipes so I know your wedding had to be done with 'Irish pipes' since the Scottish pipes cannot support the notes. So beautiful.

I can’t get over how this instrument can sound like a symphony of violins and bagpipes at the same time, and so much more. I know little of music, and this has really expanded my appreciation for it.

I think the composer for both movies mught have been the same person. I never saw tLotM, but I seem to remember both movies being mentioned together in my movie-soundtrack-nerd searches.

You know what? I just looked it up, and I'm completely wrong, so don't listen to me. That being said, I know tLotM is supposed to have REALLY GOOD music.

Haunting... This is my absolute favorite! Second, your Last of the Mohicans, followed by Pirates of the Caribbean. What about another great James Horner bagpipe-related theme, like from Titanic -- "Hymn to the Sea" or something? I'm really into Bear McCreary's "Outlander" soundtracks -- have them all. Some really wonderful themes in those that would sound great on a gurdy. [Hope to try some, myself, when I get mine built.]

Song request/suggestion (if by chance you need any) -- Sweet William's Ghost (Child Ballad 77) or Long Lankin (Child Ballad 93). I have been very interested in the Child Ballads lately, but notice almost all modern performances of them are on guitar, which wouldn't have been a common instrument in England and Scotland at the time those songs originated. I started thinking, well, what would have been a more common instrument? ... Perhaps hurdy gurdy.
