I used to make breakfast burritos very close to this recipe for the SEALS that were on my ship. I'd make about 30, 2 burritos for each team member. Only difference is that I made guac w/ the avocado instead of just using the meat. And for the guys that weren't too keen on chorizo i used breakfast sausage. Wrap them up in parchment and then in aluminum foil to keep them soft and hot. The guys would load these bad boys into their utility pockets and they had a quick meal or two while out on training missions. I took care of the other 2700 sailors and Marines on my ship, my SEALS gratefully appreciated it.
@ChefJackOvens2 жыл бұрын
Much respect to you! They sound awesome. I didn’t use guacamole as they won’t last the full 5 days of so due to the moisture but guac or pico would be delicious 🙏
@terrymyers6992 жыл бұрын
@@ChefJackOvens Thank you! Oh yes, I totally see not using guac if thetes going to be anything over a day kept in the fridge over 12 hours let alone 5 days. But I guarantee you that the burritos I made had a "shelf life" of less than 30 minutes. lol. Being a Navy cook was the beginning of a 30-year culinary journey as a chef. I medically retired 6 years ago and really miss being in the galley. I'm proud of the food I've made for my sailors, Marines, and troops. Not taking anything away from the thousands of other people I've cooked for over the years. But my brothers are special to me.

Good bits: -Very tasty burritos fresh. -Putting them under the broiler is the best way to reheat. Bits that could’ve been better: -I thought I had sour cream, but I didn’t. Still good burritos otherwise. -I could’ve gotten either larger burritos or made more with the smaller ones I did buy. Which leads into my 3rd field: Straight up bad idea: -Making these in a coffee-fueled rampage at midnight when you haven’t eaten in 7 hours (I normally fast overnight). I couldn’t possibly eat all of them, but the thought crossed my mind.

LOL! I worked in restaurants for decades. Almost every conversation about food prep devolved into innuendo. My favorite was a base we made for Fruit Compotes, basically Simple Syrup which we thickened with Corn Starch. It was made in a large Steam Kettle, and more than a few times, a Waitress would walk by while I added the Corn Starch. Waitress - OOOH, what's that? Me - What does it look like?
