Walt got the Greenlight. He's at the intersection waiting at the light, and he could go either direction, but he receives the money and then the green light appears. Basically Walt has the choice at that moment, to put things behind him and try to repair his life, or go ahead and accept his other path and continue onward even though he just heard over the radio the cost and consequences of his past actions.

It’s always interesting to me how people seem to be accepting of Walt becoming a meth manufacturer/dealer but get angry when he does the things that go along with being in that business. If someone were to say that a meth dealer were to lie to people they love and kill, I think most people would say yeah of course. But Walt starts off as a sympathetic figure then does this stuff. Then it’s almost like people feel betrayed by him.

36:34 i just wrote a huge comment about this on your s3 e2 video. Glad you guys realized this as well. The writing is brilliant though when it comes to the double standard. The truth of the matter is this: Walt is NOT a shark. He's a minnow. She married Walt knowing he was the minnow, and so hes expected to stay that way. Thats what makes her feel safe. Ted is sort of a shark. Owns a company, wealth to his name. And so she flirted with him in the past and fucks him in the show knowing hes a shark. As a result, when he does shark like thinks like cooking the books, she is not as surprised because it fits Teds archetype. However, when Walt, the harmless minnow, cooks meth and starts acting LIKE a shark, it rubs her, and the viewers the wrong way because everyone can see the incongrueny of it.

31:09 He definitely has shown that he felt bad about Jane, and felt bad about Krazy-8, and felt bad about the plane crash and felt bad about Jane's dad. Idk how you see otherwise, as Walt has been visibly upset over all of those things and has shown remorse for most of it multiple times. It's pretty obvious that his actions are indeed affecting him, and saying otherwise isn't fair. HOWEVER, he continues to do more and more bad things, so I get why you'd want to hate him completely. Trust me, by the end of the series, your disdain for Walt will be justified IMO. I just don't think it's that cut and dry at this point

Yeah they really can't relate to him, despite the awful things he's done. I think they've forgotten why Walt acts the way he does about this new field that he seems to be the best in the market of. He's been surpassed by all his friends. Wasted his potential. Now he's losing what he loved (family) and then he sees Jesse "steal" (from his pov) his formula which he sees as his sole creation. So he loses it against Jesse too.
@lanestapp2

@@LouSassol69er Ya, he acts that way because he thinks his value is greater than others and can't stand when that is defied. Jesse trying to emulate him is seen as stealing is a wild take. @thedarkemissary
@thedarkemissary 7 ай бұрын
It's not really that. It's how quick you can disassociate with Walt's character. People are with him all the time. Since he's fictional people fixate on the things he does instead of the reason why he does them. For instance, take the incident he had in the car with Jessie. Maple and Arianna immediately identified with Jessie and everything Walt does during that confrontation is view from the standpoint that Walt isn't fair and is being disingenuous. But, if you step back, you can identify that Walt is losing everything, his wife, his job, and now Jessie is there to take his formula as well. So, he's desperate to rationalize any kind of control he can get. It's a parallel to Skylar's affair. It's lashing out in the face of losing control. But since they *know* Walt is a bad person it's, "Haha, suck it. Take that Walt." Whereas, if it's anyone else it's, "Oh, they're lashing out. I can sympathize." The simple fact that they get to watch Walt make every decision and action, reinforces their view of him, regardless of the decision or action, in and of itself. Jessie tries to sell drugs, high-five. Walt tries to sell drugs, boo. Skylar has an affair, high-five. Walt tries to have an affair, boo. Walt's family in danger, oh no. Walt in danger, suck it. Guarantee you they'll blame Walt for episode #7.

Speaking of "consequences": I'm always reminded of a short-lived, not-great (but very watchable) show that came out a couple years before Breaking Bad, called "Day Break" (2006), staring Taye Diggs...and Jonathan Banks, who was basically playing Mike Ehrmantraut 1.0 - hit man, fixer, very strong and silent type. And his tag line, throughout the run of the show (usually when he had someone tied up in a figurative corner) was, "Remember, sir: there's decisions...and consequence. Decisions...and CONSEQUENCE." It's a great, though poorly executed little show that's well worth a watch.

Its almost like skylar never appreciated Walt in the first place. She was a waitress that saw a stable boring guy with a good paying lab job and latched on. We see in the pilot she's more invested in her eBay bid than "his birthday present". Then when walt is dying of cancer she demands he get treatment against his own wishes to pass peacefully. And when he secretly risks his life to make money enough for both his treatment and the family to live on, she gets petty and vindictive for daring to lie. And when she finds out, theres no concern for his safety, she never cared about his well-being, she's disgusted. And when Walt refuses to be kicked out of his own home she has an affair with her also criminal but more handsom and successful boss to spite walt. Add in the smoking while pregnant, that she probably did with Jr too giving him his palsy, and skylar is scum.

There's absolutely no indication that Skylar NEVER appreciated Walt. They're nearly two decades into their relationship and she's pregnant. Yeah, an inattentive handjob isn't the most thoughtful thing on her husband's birthday, but nothing in that says that she's just been leaching from him the whole time. Of course she demanded he get treatment, most people who love their partner are not going to immediately jump to agree for them to die. Yes, she was coming from a place of selfishness to some extent, but it's clear it was ultimately because she wants him in her life, not just because she needs someone to pay the bills. She also spent time trying to get Walt to tell her the truth, and she gets vindictive because he's consistently choosing to keep lying about something that is ultimately his fault anyway. He never needed to risk his life in secret. He was offered the money for the treatment, and he refused because he's prideful. He didn't make meth to leave money behind, if he truly wanted there to be no debt, he would have accepted Elliot's offer. He started cooking meth because he wanted to know that he specifically was the one that kept his family out of debt. He did it for himself while telling himself it was for his family. He had other routes and chose not to take them. Also, the severity of her affair is way overblown. She had already made it clear to Walt that their relationship was over, and he refused to accept it. He was a legitimate danger to the family, made evident by the fact the Salamanca twins showed up in his house, only two episodes before this one. She screwed Ted to make it clear to Walt that he was not going to get what he wanted just because he thought he could. They were done, even if it was still technically an affair on paper. They're relationship was over and he needed to have that stuck into his thick skull. Skylar has her flaws, but they mostly revolve around her attachment to Walt and wanting to make sure she doesn't ruin him in the eyes of her children. Her loyalty to the image of Walt that her son has in his head is a much greater flaw than any of the animus she showed him because of the decisions he made.

I don't agree on the consequence comment that Maple is making. The Plane Crash, the Dad trying to kill himself and the people that Walt killed are all consequences of Walt's actions and/or decisions. The part that these 2 gals are struggling with is that Walt is rarely if not never impacted by the consequences of his actions / decisions. This whole series could be called consequences of knowing Walt.

People just need to answer in their heads who is worse ? Skylar or Walt ? I feel like that might solve some of these stupid arguments between people. Walt is clearly worse to anyone with a brain but you also need to think about who gets complained about more and why that is. I’d say it’s either sexism, subconscious sexism or just a lot of ignorance.

Have not read all of the comments in each episode. But one of the questions that is frequently posed in discussions of this series is at what point did Walter White go full scale breaking bad? I say it was at toward the conclusion of Season 2 when he made the conscious decision of not making any attempt to save Jane. That was definitely heartbreaking on so many levels. Another thing I always wondered about was why much of the Breaking Bad audience had such a negative view of Skyler. Outside of her affair with Ted, I cannot really think of any action she took over the duration of the series that was not done out of love for and/or protection of her husband and especially her kids. Am I off base for thinking this or do I just have a major crush on Anna Gunn?😄

Skyler is being hypocritical with Ted like you guys said, but I think she was more mad at Walt for lying constantly and causing her so much stress than him being a criminal. Also dealing drugs is much more dangerous than tax evasion, the police are the least of your worries when there are Salamancas around. Skyler would flip out 100x harder if she knew about all that.

@@thedarkemissary What are you talking about? Yes, Skyler has no clue of the specific danger they are in. That's obvious, Idk why you keep saying it. But dealing drugs is inherently dangerous, so of course it affects the decision making. He wasn't running a lemonade stand, he was selling narcotics. If she knew that 2 cartel members were sitting in their bedroom ready to murder Walt and anyone else, she might've actually reported the police. Skyler is absolutely in the right for not wanting Walt there, she just doesn't realize how right she is.

@@XxOnyxStudiosxX It's not inherently dangerous if you're NOT doing it anymore. It ain't a choice between a drug maker and an embezzler. It's a choice between a *former* drug maker and an embezzler.
