the entire 'crawl space' sequence is in a league of its own.. the anticipation of how it begins, the exasperation of not finding the money, and the desperation from finding out where it went - all brilliantly underlined by tense music, Walt's hysterical laugh, and the phone ringing. The perfect example of 'when it rains, it pours'.. Just beautiful.
@chrissizemore8705 Жыл бұрын
I would love to know how Bryan Cranston got into the head space to act out that scene in particular. It's so tense. We're watching a man snap and have a mental breakdown right in front of us. That laughter is haunting. And hearing him laugh while the phone is ringing, Marie is crying, and watching Skylar slowly walk to the kitchen to answer the phone just creates so much thickness in the air of that scene. The crawlspace scene is so intense. I remember the first time being sat on the edge of my chair. The layering of the heartbeat style music, Walt laughing maniacally, Skyler's terrified expression and then the phone call from Marie. The silence when the episode ended left a ringing in my ears.

It's up there with Sopranos as the finest series ever written. It is infinitely rewatchable. It never quite strays from the realm of believability while maintaining a level of constant tension. It also endears you to characters that are essentially very bad people much like Sopranos.

Better than sopranos
@ghostoftherepublic4 Жыл бұрын
@aaguilar061289 I can't go quite that far but I also can't argue with someone saying it is. Again, both are phenomenally written and infinitely rewatchable. I think both these shows are incredible, I also have to throw The Wire and Better Call Saul in there too. I think I put Sopranos in first because that show started the whole "prestige television" Era. Where major stars would join a tv show and they became as seriously taken as blockbuster movies.

The Jane scene is probably the hardest scene to witness as a viewer, actor, director etc etc.. There was so much to digest there as a human with or without experiences. It really puts into perspective the power and award winning outcome of this show, no matter how you choose to digest it. Breaking Bad was a truly iconic show that set up walls to be broken or at least chipped at. It delves into the real world of human suffrage yet entertains a reality where an outcome favors bold and brave by systematic error or fortitude.

nothing more iconic than the series' opening scene, as shown here. chaos and mayhem: walt in his tighty whities frantically trying to extinguish small brush fires, a speeding rv careening out of control in the middle of the desert, jesse's beaten-to-a-pulp body being turned over...there is no way an even casual viewer's interest could not have been piqued. I myself watched seasons 1-3 straight through at that point. i would have continued with 4 and 5 had they been available. breaking bad set the standard for episode intros, and followed it up with great plot/character development, acting and writing. like a hit of any good drug, the breaking bad intro sunk its hooks into you from the beginning...

13:20 remains such a hard watch. What walter does here is just plain murder, and it's acted so well. Like, his first instinct is to save her. But you can see the cogs turning as he realises she is ruining Jesse's life. She got him back on the stuff. Idk if he cares for Jesse, or if he needs Jesse, but he makes the decision to save Jesse's life by not saving her.
