Breaking Bad follows protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife (Anna Gunn) and teenage son (RJ Mitte) who has cerebral palsy. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years left to live. With a new sense of fearlessness based on his medical prognosis, and a desire to secure his family's financial security, White chooses to enter a dangerous world of drugs and crime and ascends to power in the world. The series explores how a fatal diagnosis such as White's releases a typical man from the daily concerns and constraints of normal society and follows his transformation from mild family man to a kingpin of the drug trade.

Fun parallel I like: Hank's wound was not immediately fatal. He could've lived if he received medical attention, yet he still refused to beg or bargain for his life. Went out like a man. Later on, when Jack is shot by Walt's machine gun, he's coughing up blood. He's internally bleeding and chances are, he was done for no matter what. Yet he still tried bargaining with Walt for his life, even though it was already over. Hank went out like a man, Jack went out like a bitch.

Really like Dean's acting here. His change in facial expressions really show how conflicted hank is about how he feels about walter. He really consider walt a good buddy through most of the series then absolutely hated him and saw nothing but a monster after finding out the truth. Here he was getting ready to send Walt to death row (or life in prison) and he was happy about it. Then he is shocked that despite what just happened between them Walt (who Hank was essentially about happily send to his death) instantly and with out the slightest bit of hesitation is willing to give up everything and part with all $80,000,000 for them to spare Hanks life and then in his last moments he starts to see Walt's human side again.

In the first episode of the show, Hank said that Walter had a brain the size of Wisconsin but that his heart was in the right place. Over the course of the show, we saw the first point get proved time and again, and we thought that the second had been rendered utterly false with all the selfish, evil things Walt had done… but we see, in this moment, that wasn’t the case. For all the terrible things he’d done, Walt still had so much love in his heart for his family, Hank included, and it overpowered his brain. In his desperation, he was willing to give up his money - the very thing he’d been working for all this time - in the desperate hope that it would save Hank’s life. Hank knew it wouldn’t, which is why he acted so brazenly because he knew there was no chance he would survive. On some level, Walt had to know too but like Hank said, his heart was in the right place (for once) and it led to the loss of everything he’d worked so hard for because he couldn’t accept the inevitability of this moment.
