My mom bought me a black one in 1998 when we were in Germany on vacation. We were just walking by a Breitling store and the B-1 caught my eye. That was reason enough for her to buy it for me on the spot. And I wasn't a child, I was 28 (haha). She passed away the year after. Not one day have I left home without it since then.

I purchased this watch in 2003 at a Breitling dealer in San Diego. I was in the Navy at the time and was about to deploy for 7 months; they made a deal with me that if I made monthly payments on the watch, interest free, I could pick it up when I got back. Sure enough, 7 payments later, I picked it up immediately when I got back and I've been wearing it ever since. They even gave me a brand new one that they had just received about a week before I got back.

Had mine for 16 years now. Wore it all over the world as an everyday wear. Once every 2 years, I pay $50 to have the stainless professionally polished. Still works great.

My first Swiss watch as well. I do have the black dial and I love it! Bought mine in 1999/2000, so seventeen years ago! It's in beautiful condition as well. Really loved their brand back then. FYI, Breitling is making more heritage type designs now.Great review, really brought back that special time when you paid some serious cash for a great watch. Mine needs to go in for a battery/seal change though. Think you might have motivated me to take it in finally. Thanks again!

This is a great watch, owned mine for around 15 years and I agree, it's is a keeper. It was upgraded many years ago to SuperQuartz movement during a full service at no extra cost and had 'SQ' engraved on the back of the watch. Thanks Breitling! Anyway, just wanted to say a big thanks for the battery-save function tip. Works great on the B-1 and the Airwolf Raven that I also have in my collection. Cant ever remember seeing this in the instructions.

Thanks very much for the review. Mine was my then girlfriend´s wedding present, in 1999. Still have both with me:) Agree 100% on your statements and feelings, both for this watch and the brand. I service the watch every three or four years at a Brietling center and keep every bill as part of the watch history. In 2019 with the battery change I asked for the light to be repaired, because it was working at 50%. I was then asked to consider the upgrade to "superquartz", which I did because I thought it sounds cool, but actually never noticed a difference afterwards. I also like the slide rule big numbers, which actually make possible using it.

Breitling makes one of the nicest blue dials. I have a Superocean blue dial as well as a Navitimer World (GMT), and of all the watches I've had, those blue dials get the most compliments as the blue really stands out more than the conventional black dials often seen on sports watches.

Bought one today, because my Navitimer 46 GMT is back at Breitling and due to Coronavirus, I'll probably not see it again for a while. I was torn between a Colt and the B1, this video made my mind up. Thank you.

I have the same opinion as yours: I've bought many Breitling's, Navitimer's, Chronomat's, Superocean, Aerospace's... , but it was many years ago. Breitling was my favorite brand between 1985 and, well, 2005. It still is but I don't buy any Breitling any more since they are too big and too blingy and are no more Instruments for Professionals. I own a B-1, it's the best pilot watch ever made, the countdown and bidirectionnal bezel was great and the B-1 had to be a true classic. But they replaced it by the gaudy, uggly Airwolf with the ridiculous and useless compass bezel. What did they smoke at Breitling ? Are there still at least one pilot over there ?

Nice video. I have exactly the same watch, the B1. I bought it in Zurich airport tax-free. It came with a dark blue leather strat ... which I never wore and bought the steel strap ( I of course still have the unworn original Breitling leather strap). You forgot to mention in your video that you can also change the language ... for date / french, german, english. I still have the watch and wear it almost daily @ work. Battery replacement costs me @ a certified Breitling shop € 180 I had it serviced about 1,5 years ago for € 550. It was worth it.

I had one from new about 20 years ago but was forced to sell when an acrimonious divorce bankrupted me. Fast-forward to now; my life and finances have recovered somewhat. I've owned and sold a few other watches and was umm-ing and ahh-ing over my next purchase when I realised how much I missed my B-1. Just this week bought a beautiful condition black dial original edition but which had the movement changed to the B78 in 2014. Fantastic luck - it's like running a classic car with a modern engine :-)

I appreciate how thorough your review is and how you are able to speak from decades of ownership experience without any pretense of typical watch youtubers. Points well taken and I echo with you that each iteration of this watch seems to detach further from the charms which made the original so aesthetically pleasing. Excellent lighting and camera work too. I'm nutty about Breitling; currently in my two piece collection a Chronomat Blackbird A78362 and a SuperOcean A17360. Your video really speaks to my taste so I've decided to add this reference as a 3rd to my collection. Nicely done mate, cheers!

Great review, completely agree on everything you mentioned, this watch has it all for travelers and pilots. The lighting is also fantastic on this watch with the push button instead of the ‘crown roll’ on the Aerospace, which I never got right... And the anti reflective coating is still the best out there today, zero glare in the cockpit.

I do also agree that, despite still looking great with blue dial, but definitely with black dial it would have looked best! I own many Breitlings and, with the exception of two of them having silver dials, all the rest do have black dials (no colors: blue, etc.) By the way, I do prefer older style / designs rather than modern ones. I think they (the older ones) are far more appealing, "authentic" and with far more "personality".

Still got it. Will never sell it. It will be on my wrist on my death bed. Not had it serviced because never needed to fix anything other then change the battery every 3-5 years. You don't need to go to breitling to have it changed, they will over charge you just go to any watch doctor. Wear in in good heath. If you make a video please send me a link.

I have the same story! i have a B1, in the same color but with no digital read out. It was my first swiss watch too. Problem is, i have no idea with reference number it is, because i was young and stupid at the time and threw the box away :-)

Amazing ! You've been owning a B-1 for so long and haven't noticed yet the slide rule turns more quickly than the bezel ? :-) Actually, the internal slide rule is driven by the bezel THROUGH a pinion. The B-1 is fantastic ! And what you see at 10:00 on the side of the case is the cover of the pinion. So, what you've been told about it is totally wrong.

Very nice review mate. Did the exact opposite. I bought the Aerospace Titanium first, and the B-1 second. I have them both, and being an airline pilot I must say this is an exceptional instrument, to use it inside the flight deck. If I may provide some info. The Counter is as you stated, for the space exploration and mostly for the space missions of the International Space station as well the Space Shuttle missions. At some point I’ll give it a review up there but not as good as yours. Cheers.

Thnax for a super demonstartion. Ive just purchased the same watch but the chronometer version of it. also blue and i love it :-) just have a question for you. the luminescent digital displays is very weak when i activate it compared to your demonstration also in the dark. is there a battery for that which might have to be changed ?

I haven't had the problem when battery was low. Could just be age of the watch. I don't use the bacl light so much. Could just need service. Super watch. Enjoy it.

I own a B1. The dial was broken and it was losing track of the right time. Sometimes it was showing 10.23pm instead of 9.22pm etc. I was told that the quartz has broken because is too old 1997 bought. Any ideas what to do?
