I've owned cats my entire life but never had this issue. I also wash my hands a lot and avoid touching my face and eyes. Not that hard to wash your hands. Basic hygiene is just a good practice to have, regardless of a global pandemic or cat ownership.

Growing up before I discovered I had an affinity for cats my family had dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, birds, and i helped others with cows chickens sheep etc. The big thing I had drummed into my head from an early age, anytime you clean up after an animal wash your hands. Since my house is foster homes for cats, i used to live with lots of cats (a dozen of cats at one time) for years since my junior high. They live indoor, never had this issue with toxoplasmosis. Coincidentally, about the time when i move out (like, 7 years after high school graduation), i worked at a pharmaceutical factory for a year. It was clean and everything but somehow there were some exposure to something in those factory, which results in me having corneal abrasion, conjuctivitis, blepharitis and those reduce my field of vision to 20% (not to mention the searing pain after waking up, light sensitivity, redness, discharge etc). Eye disease can greatly reduce your quality of life. So yeah, i would be more worried about other exposure than mere cats exposure

If your cat does not go out, it's not gonna be infected in the first place. Also infected cats only transmit the disease for brief period of time after being infected. It's much more likely to be infected by eating raw vegetables.

u dont need to be afraid... it literally rarely ever makes u sick.. in germany nearly everyone has this parasite... cuz we eat raw meat. just know: it can cause only issues if you get infected first while being pregnant or have horrible immune system issues (and even then its suuuuper rare that it makes you sick).

Dont let your cat outside home! Always wash your hands, and give cat propper medical help. If your cat is safe and without contact of outside and parasites you are fine. Make sure cat is fine too, and do not get rid of cat. A pet is family. There are solutions.

So I have a lot of cats and I change their litter boxes regularly. My eyes have also been unusually irritated lately and they ache whenever I'm in bright sunlight, I try to focus on someone's face while they talk to me, or when I look at a screen even very briefly with night mode on. (I also get more floaters than usual) Gee, thanks, now I'm paranoid.

A friend of mine lost his sight in one eye from due to cat scratch fever. He just woke up one day unable to resolve any details in one of this eyes, went to the doctor a few days later and found out a bacterial infection destroyed one of this optic nerves and the doctor determined it to be from his cat and that it was permanent. I guess there are multiple neurological pathways to the brain, so he was still able to see light and some peripheral vision, but he couldn't read with it or anything.

Great! Just b4 lockdown I rescued a kitty. That kitty turned into 24 and I still have 19. Nobody was able to help because of China virus. I was diagnosed with Toxoplasmosis when I was pregnant with my youngest and I had to go in every other day to get blood drawn to make sure it wasn't in active mode during birth because it could cause blindness or brain issues.

That happened to me, except i had what they called retinal vasculitis, i still have a blur in my right eye, but after how much treatment i'm doing good now. When it all started, years ago i had no idea what was happening to me.

The theory is that these differences in personality are the effect of the infection, but could it not be the other way around? Could someone who is less risk-averse before infection simply be at a higher risk of infection? Until any studies are made that study subjects both before and after infection, someone proves a concrete link that is not just correlation or something else happens I'm not absolutely sure about the conclusion that the virus has these effects on personalities.
