I wanted to thank you for all your videos. I have an older home and I couldn't afford the 10,000 bid for have my house painted. I watched this video on staining the brick instead of painting. Everyone I spoke to here in Texas talked about painting the brick. I used the exact brand that you showed and wow my house turned out great. I have a small graco spray rig and it wasn't that difficult process after watching this video. My neighbors are not jealous of the look. Thanks, again

Once again you taught me something new. Here in Florida Cinder block is the standard go to material for most homes and general contractors have them top coated with typical latex paint when new limiting our options later down the road. However I do have customers request their brick being painted to modernize their homes at times. I'm shamed to admit it but I never really thought using a stain over the typical Seal-Krete, primer and painting. This is exactly why I keep watching as we can always learn something new and as "New ideas" go, you guys have God's favor. Very much appreciated, your a God send to so many.

Hey Chris, just wanted to take a moment to thank you. My wife is headed down to S.C. to her friends house to hang out and help her friend paint her apartment. Since I will be working and won't be able to take calls for their questions on how to do this and that while they are painting I told her to just pull up your KZbin channel and look up what they needed to know. That was one product I was able to check out years and years later .... I just happened to be back in that neighborhood and I thought "Hmm , I'm going to go check out that patio and porch" , and to be honest , I was surprised how good it looked after a good 10 years , I saw no problems at all , still looked really great

Great vid and thanks for the response. Do you recommend the brush or a roller to push the stain in to fill rough areas? I have a repaint coming up where they want to paint the original brick a white. Brick is now earth tones colors. I had concerns over the paint peeling several years down the road and began to research brick painting because I always want to do the best job for my customers. I love the idea of the stain because of its penetration properties. thanks again my paint brother!

For this brick over can you guys do a DEMO video too? use Cinder Blocks and show how stain look versus paint look would look in a close up and what the benefits are from either or. I bet Customers will love it as a detail to know and see first hand. I learn more and more that if you can bring a DEMO Piece to the Customer they have a much easier way to choose the finish. Like stain brick. Most don't know what it would look like so how can you sell it to a customer. We just finished a house where we now do their back porch floor and front door as well. But it took the customer a min to realize the house isn't complete without painting those too.

Oh my God thanks for KZbin university I really appreciate you guys telling us about this because I just bought a home that is a 1963 brick and I was thinking about DYI painting myself and I definitely will not do that I thought you can paint it with regular paint thank God I checked you guys first and another channel that says that it’s not a good idea to paint your exterior with regular paint and that staining brick is the best option for it not to break down or destroy the brick because I saw some examples of how the brick can break off when you paint over it because I can’t breathe and it’s already a finished product so I’m glad that I just seen this from you guys thank you so much keep doing what you’re doing. And I am in the Georgia area do you guys know anybody that is a really good painter that uses your products? And what are the questions I need to ask the painter to make sure that they’re using the right product for the project? I got to do some research on staining products I like your product I want to paint mines white. How long does this paint last and how often do you have to do touchups? And will it ship after a while and compromise the brick

On brick we 1st coat with a masonry primer from sherwin-williams called loxon it seals and waterproof brick then paint with a Acrylic latex finish spray and back roll, this method priming method will stop the brick from absorbing the moisture from paint and will give you many years of a great looking project and easy repaint if you decide to repaint.,also saves you tuck pointing

The whole point of stain is that it's being absorbed in to the brick. If you primed it, you would no longer be able to stain the brick. Paint will not stay attached to brick long term, this is why we stain. Paint is a bad idea.

Recently primed and painted cement walls and stairs w/ SW Loxon and SuperPaint. 1 winter season is all it took to begin paint to peel from steps (particularly where water build up was intense) have power washed all paint off. Cement was already stained a red tone throughout. Changing color to gray (I know, ouch). If I used a gray stain, I'm not certain it'll look good over the gray - whether it'll cover well enough over red (there's no spots to trial) In your experience, going over a darker color w/ a lighter stain color, will it cover or should I leave red alone? Customer REALLY wants the gray. Thanks! BTW, I LOVE your show, have learned lots!!

I'm currently using a Nawkaw brick stain product on a very rough and uneven type of brick, you know those newer style brick that arent smoothed or flattened out when they're made. Using 25mm nap to apply and having a lot of issues. Going through tons of product, and finding it nearly impossible to get in the grout lines. Is this sort of product designed for spraying? Because my current application method is really turning me off of the product, although the brick is certainly a factor here aswell.

@jaxandmore440
@jaxandmore440 3 жыл бұрын
If your current brick already has a variagated look, you can use a limewash finish instead of stain. It will change the color of the brick while also showing off the variation behind it because it's semi-transparent if applied thin enough. It behaves differently than stain. If you have solid color brick and want a variatgated look, yes, I recommend using multiple neighboring tints of stain. Thought that will be significantly more expensive and time consuming.

What’s the deal with re staining? How would you go back to original brick or changing color??

Stain is meant to be a permanent finish. An option to regain the original brick look is to have it sandblasted.

Can you stain brick that has already been painted and is peeling bad now?

No response ? Let me give it a shot ! 1) The preexisting paint will inhibit the stain from penetrating the surface of the brick. That’s what paint does best and the only areas that will absorb stain is in the peeling areas only. Removal of all the paint and etching the surface is the only appropriate measure to get decent results . Prep work is key in solid painting/staining.

What preparation do I need to take before staining my brick house ? Like primer etc

No primer needed. Clean the brick to rid it of loose and heavy debris before staining. That's the only prep required.
