Should you paint your Brick House?

On this episode we introduce the game, Do it yourself, or don't. Its how we decide whether or not we should complete a project ourselves or hire it out.
When it comes to this old house one thing it definitely needs to get eyes on it and help us sell it faster it to update the outside. That starts with painting the brick. We go over some pros and cons as well as if you should do the work yourself or hire it out.

Paint can be unhealthy for brick not letting it breathe and in turn creating moisture inside the brick and building. Cause disintegration and unhealth of building over time.

Isnt a special type of paint required for exterior applications?

As long as the paint is rated for exterior and rated for brick you are good to go!

No you don't paint brick! I hate this trend along with the grey or bage color scheme trends. I gotta say that in the case of this house you definitely paint it, wow I love it so much and the grey/ white color scheme I normally hate looks amazing inside the house.

The life expectancy on the brick is dramatically shorter now that it’s painted!! It will need painted and maintenance every 3-5 years. Nooooooooo way! Don’t paint brick

How many sides brick is this house? I want to paint my red brick home, $800. plus tools seems like a great price, but how many sides of brick did this include. Love your videos!!!

The house is 2 stories, 2,000 SQ ft, a semi cape cod style. So 4 sides of this house are brick with the 2 lateral sides having much more brick than the front and back. Hope this helps.

Holy Cow. I got a quote to paint the brick on my 1100sq ft. ranch and mine is sided on the upper half/lower half brick. So basically half of a small one story house. He quoted me $2500! Guess I'll get more quotes!

If you like it enjoy the reduced property values on the homes you claim to sell. I’ll buy them up, paint them and take the profit you miss out on by having 70’s design style interests old fart.

It looks great aesthetically, it can seal bricks that have been damaged by pressure washing for example, but it is a permanent solution and can’t easily be undone. It also requires repainting every 10 years or so. So on one hand it’s beautiful, on the other it will require more maintenance. So weigh your options before proceeding.

Not in our locality anyone can rent and use at their own discretion and it’s waaaaay cheaper than $400 a day. I think it was less than a couple hundred for the whole weekend 🤷‍♂️

We like stained brick, but the brick generally needs to be in good condition and it helps to be flat and smooth. This brick was a very grooved and porous, so the paint gave the look and texture we were going for.

Paint damages bricks. Brick needs to breathe, once you paint it you’ll get ice jacking and all kinds of other problems. Dont ever buy a painted brick home!

Save it Rene. Go to any historic town in the world. Painted brick has been standing for as long as there has been paint. As long as it's acrylic based or rated for masonry it is permeable or "breathable".

Painting brick is the worst thing homeowners could do. Bricks are not designed for painting; and once painted there is absolutely no way to go back. When I see a painted brick home I think what an idiot.
