Question: You mentioned that it takes about a year for everything to settle after the surgery and for Brie to have her final new face. I’d be interested to understand more about that. Is it mainly because of swelling and scaring or does the human face (the muscles, skin, etc) also adjust and change a bit of themselves? Or is it linked to hormones too? Do you need to take additional medication besides for the pain?

Brie is obviously slaying both PRE and POST surgery. BUT can we give a shoutout to Kristin? The strength and sheer will power she had to not only stomach the thought of her partner going under the knife but the loving care and support she delivered afterwards? Immense respect. You're one in a million, Kristin. You're both the role models of love that I aspire to be like.

I also love that they include the perspective of the loved one who often becomes the caregiver in medical situations. It feels like there’s not a ton of casual information like this online that considers the family/ friends of the person they need to support. A lot of the mainstream advice for loved ones of trans people feels overly formal, sterile and almost antagonistic in its framing. Like a lot of “shut up, it’s not about you, just be supportive” which is unrealistic when your partner/ sibling/ parent/ bff is going through such a major life change.

Ty for making this video!! Hope Brie's recovery continues to go well. I remember having some similar weird emotions and feeling like i made a mistake in the day or so after getting top surgery (which quickly went away after i could see the results), and i imagine it'd be a much for significant emotional journey for FFS! For your follow-up video: My wife will eventually be getting FFS whenever we can afford it, and despite being pretty chill with medical/surgical stuff in general, there's something about what's involved in this particular surgery that makes my skin crawl (not because of the results or anything, its the literal procedures like shaving down bones that get to me). I'd love to hear Kristen talk about anything that helped her process any feelings of that sort, especially since I assume you need to know a good deal about it in order to provide the necessary aftercare, as well as any other weird little tips that helped in recovery!

I left the comment on her last surgery video basically being annoyed with insurance companies.Surgeries just routinely get rejected by insurance companies. I needed a bariatric surgery for health reasons. I couldn't care less what I looked like, I needed be healthy and to live probably another 20 years with the surgery. And insurance was refusing to grant it. Finally after a ridiculous amount of going back and forth , I was approved for a gastric bypass. I have lost a significant amount of weight, but I couldn't care less about that. I no longer have high blood pressure, no longer am diabetic, no longer have sleep apnea, and five other major health issues have been resolved since I had the surgery. Insurance game playing sucks. I can't wait to see the next video in this series to see how the progress is going forward.

So many good and healing vibes to you Brie! As always I’m so impressed by your dedication not only to being a positive example and resource for others, but also to doing what’s the best thing for yourself and your well being. Also major kudos to Kristin being such a good, supportive partner. It’s a joy to watch this journey, thanks for sharing it with us 💜
