The worst thing about the watermelon poison riddle was that the fact that the man ate the seeds wasn't mentioned. The plates were not identified and thus the idea that the man died because he ate the seeds doesn't make sense. There was no reason to believe that the plate with only a few seeds was his. He could have just thrown the seeds away. The plate with only a few seeds could have been the woman's. The seeds could have contained an antidote to a poison, which they had already consumed. The poisoning might have not even had anything to do with the watermelon; the man could have been poisoned by something completely different. The autopsy showed that he had died from poison, but the way he was poisoned was not specified. If he was poisoned by the seeds, the poison must have been inside the seeds, as otherwise the poison would have leeched into the rest of the watermelon and killed both of them, unless the woman was somehow immune to the poison, which is another possible solution. Thus, the poison could have only been inside the seeds. Watermelon seeds aren't poisonous, so unless the watermelon seller was selling a new variety of poisonous watermelon, he would had to have taken the seeds out of the watermelon, put poison in them and put them back in. The watermelon would almost certainly be broken after this, so the seller would have to be able to somehow repair a broken watermelon. In conclusion, there is no logical reason to believe that the watermelon seeds were the reason for the death of the man or that there is even a single solution to the riddle.
