MUSIC:
Did you like the outro music? If so, you can listen to it on my soundcloud page. If you didn't, you can still listen to it. I guess. ► / telos
The track was heavily inspired by Attagirl’s ‘Soundtrack 01’. She kindly allowed me to borrow from it. Please go and say hello ► / soundtrack-01
The main piece was the Overture from Can-Can, by Offenbach: • Can can - Jacques Offe...
FURTHER WATCHING:
If you’re interested in entropy, it has been explained before considerably better than I could ever hope to:
• Entropy: Embrace the C... - Crash Course Explanation
• Entropy Confusion - Si... - Sixty Symbols
• How Entropy Powers The... - Minute Physics
CLARIFICATION:
It’s misleading to make out entropy is just the universe’s tendency towards disorder. Like most things in physics, it’s much bigger than that, and more convoluted. But ‘winding down’ is a big part of it nevertheless. Order can also spontaneously rise out of entropy though, which was certainly news to me. More about that here: • Entropy Confusion - Si...

One way of looking at this temporary decrease of entropy called life is that it's a catalyst for _faster_ entropy. As in the ultimate function (or telos, if you will) of life would be to take higher energy packets (high frequency light, such as visible or UV) and turn them in to lower energy packets (low frequency light, such as IR/heat) faster and more efficiently than what would occur without life. Simply put life dissipates energy faster. So sure, we're a little pocket of complexity, but we are a tool for increasing entropy.

Jontman42 Entropy makes no sense, there will always be patterns. The very fact that the universe is expanding in one direction just goes to show its through order. The whole idea of dark matter is built because we found strange complexities of order in our universe. There will always be an outer force that makes things look like their random. Lighting never strikes in the same place twice... Yeah because it destroys anything it strikes! sorry for the babble.
@daemn42
@daemn42 7 жыл бұрын
+Jontman42 This is the second time I've heard someone make this assertion and it makes no sense at all. All life on earth is based on energy provided by the sun (and perhaps some stored up energy from the original formation of the earth and collisions within the solar system, etc.). By far, the most efficient way to increase entropy would be to take the light/heat/tidal energy from the sun and simply reflect and/or radiate it back into space. Done. At that point it has ceased to be useful to pretty much any complex structure in the universe. But take that heat/light energy, store it in the ground, use it to drive the water cycle, chemical reactions, and then introduce life, like a tree which uses light to capture CO2 from the atmosphere to form a huge physical structure which lasts hundreds, sometimes thousands of years, and then may die and become part of vast layers of other dead vegetation and animals, which are eventually covered with layers of earth and water, compressed till they become almost a rock (coal and shale), stored for *millions* of years before being dug up by hairless apes who burn them to power their industry, and *finally* release that original sun's energy. Most of which is radiated back into space. That process is about the *slowest* possible way to increase entropy imaginable. Yes humans have found ways to increase overall entropy rather quickly as of late, but the previous 3.5 billion years of life on earth have been about slowing entropy, not speeding it up. A rock, or a pool of water exposed to the sun during the day, and space at night, does a *far* better job of increasing entropy.
@Jontman42
@Jontman42 7 жыл бұрын
daemn42 I'm just repeating shit I heard that sounds neat tho. EDIT: Seriously however, I believe the point wasn't exactly the speed, as I wrongly said, but it was that higher frequency light is throughout the chemical process released as specifically heat. If a pool of water or a rock receives the light, yes a portion of it is absorbed and released to the immediate surroundings as heat, but a part of it is reflected, as you said. And after being reflected it can just shoot back off to space or wherever to travel for a billion years before hitting anything again. The point is that life creates a platform where a far wider range of energy levels can be absorbed and divided to heat more efficiently, instead of what would occur without it. If a portion of it accidentally gets stuck and stored in the ground for however long, that's irrelevant compared to the amount of energy constantly flowing through the system.

Theoretically possibly with the idea that you can make matter and anti-matter out of nothing because that's what created from the two colliding. However this idea hasn't been proven.

TheGamingOfTheSky No, anti matter and matter don't collide to make nothing. A lot of energy in the form of photons is released when they annihilate. Simple E=mc^2
