@@FatherxSnipes pretty well, the guy was very upfront about all the things I needed to get fixed, nothing serious…yet. It’s all black with 155k miles.

I know this video is older and you may not see this, but I cannot thank you enough for making this video. I'm a Mk2 Automatic Scirocco owner and was having many of the same battery and starter issues. I may not be able to accomplish this as good as you did, but at least I know it's possible with the tools I have. Keep making awesome Volkswagen vids!

Man this would be an awesome daily/winter beater. With general maintenance done, working ac and heat, these cars are tanks. I drove an 86' gold diesel for years as a winter beater. Best car ever!👌

Congratulations on bringing her back to life. I know the work behind the engine block is tough, but you will now be rewarded for your efforts. Have fun with the old lady😉👍

had to change the starter on a buddys diesel automatic mk2 golf and the most perfect way to explain the operation is. in front of the exhaust, under the exhaust manifold, behind the engine and above the driveshaft :P perfect position, and the diesel starter is massive

I believe on some of the 80s VWs some of the automatics, the starter suffered from heatsoak, it might not be an issue with you being up in ND, but I think a relay was needed for the fix. I had the issue on my Quantum way back when I was in high school. Sadly after I got the fix done, it was totalled after getting rear ended.

Yep big problem with the 80s,90s auto. Come back after half an hour they usually would start up fine.

My Mk 3.5 which has an updated 2.0 litre version of that engine sounded like that (except it didn’t have the exhaust blow) when it first started up after it had sat for a year. After giving it an oil change and putting a few hundred miles on the old girl it’s now as quiet as a church mouse and runs like a Swiss Watch.

Ad some hydraulic lift valve concentrate to the oil. It will help less noise in the engine.

I know you know a lot about cars. I believe that’s the 1.8 CIS fuel injection system. You should shock and clean your injector lines and injectors for piece of mind. The tend to clog up over time

Why you start car without gas or even Oil checking?
@James_7132 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure for shutting you blower off on the inside, if you push the top slider all the way to the left it should turn off the blower. If I remember my mk2’s correctly lol

These cars have hydraulic lifters, they drain out over time and also get gunned up, with an oil flush and some run time they do often clear To be fair that’s got a lot of miles on it, so they may need replacing as i bet they have never been done
