The NBA works in a 2-2-1-1-1 format, meaning the team with the most regular season wins get the first two games at their home, then the other team gets 2 games in a row at their home, then they go only 1 game at home for the team with the home court advantage, then to the other team’s place again, then if it goes to 7 games, the team with the most regular season wins will have the home-court

In a 7 game series, the team with the better record in the regular season will get home court advantage, they will play the first 2 at home, the next 3 on the road, and then game 6 and game 7 at home again. One team gets the 4th home game based on wins and seeding. It's pretty much exactly like how they seed the groups for the champions league based on domestic league finishes. The winner of the prem gets the top seed in their group and their advantage is being paired up with two teams from qualifying regions of Europe and one team that finished 2nd or 3rd in another one of the top 5-6 leagues in Europe. In the NBA playoffs, the first seeded team gets the 4th home game in their conference. When it comes to the NBA final, the team with the better record gets the 4th home game. Since the warriors had the best record in the NBA, better than the Cavs, they got the benefit of having a 4th game at home in the best of 7 series 👍🏻

After that stretch LeBron went to LA, and Golden State made the finals *again*, but were banged up with injuries and lost to Kawhi Leonard and the Raptors. After this 2016 season Golden State added Kevin Durant, which was unheard of in the league, a back to back finals team adding one of the best players in the league.
