She just turned 12, 3 days back and is considered to be one of the BEST up and coming professional drummers in the world. She has over 50 covers and collabs on her channel in addition to a swath of original music that she wrote and co-produced with her family band. Check them out. Everything from when she turned 9 til now is insane. Don't wait for the years to go on to review more of her work. You guys have years worth of her stuff right on her 2 channels to check out, most of which will floor you. So, get on it. No excuses.

Yoyoka has produced a fabulous verion of Oasis' Don't Look back in Anger among something like 70 covers and live performances, one of which was this number at a rock festival around the same time this cover was produced. She turned 12 a couple of days before you made this reaction. Her gift to the world was a 10 classic tune live rock gig with famous Japanese musicians. Just one of those songs is available tubewide and that is Deep Purple's Burn.

You also ought to find out who else has discovered her. Dave Grohl (though, for whatever reason, he’s more enamored with Nandi Bushell at the moment, about the same age). Robert Plant. She’s already collaborated with Ian Paice of Deep Purple after he heard her cover Burn, which she recently performed with a group of all-star Japanese players for her 12th birthday sessions. They also did Jump by Van Halen. Both versions are scary good.

I agree with all the recommended Yoyoka covers. However, they are almost all at age 11yo. I feel part of the joy of Yoyoka is watching her grow up and develop as a musician. So please watch a few of her covers from 4-10yo, maybe even before watching the recommendations at 11yo. I've listed my favourites, in roughly chronological order (ie. by year), below. She has about 100 covers including collaborations with many professional musicians. IMO all of them are worth watching. This is her own 90+ playlist of her covers: kzbin.info/aero/PLdRIgHiqkWWbf6r83PokACwV5gqIVv9vs Others are in 'YOYOKA's 12th Birthday Session' or playing live with the Cross Roads house band. When she is playing live, or remote, with other musicians she's very focused and serious-looking. She was also very focused for especially difficult songs, until the end when she's smiling and waving to us again. She has developed her 'drummer face' aka 'stank face' and seems to be even more immersed in the music. In some of her covers she's like a cross between four ballet dancers and an octopus. Each limb has it's own brain, but they move as one to maintain balance, effortlessly. Amazing. I am not a drummer, but here's my 'short list' (I've google-translated the Japanese). I've tried to give options to include songs you might recognise, as well as songs which show her feel for music. The bold-face are my favourites, but they are all good. *4yo* The Beatles - "Come Together" (2m5s) - live concert, but video from the audience - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHysdKOFepmCh9E *5yo* B'z - "ultra soul" (3m43s) - live concert - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXTTpmuwZaekd6c *6yo* Ikuzo Yoshi - "Ora Tokyo Sai Iguda" (2m2s) _(drumming and singing in home studio)_- kzbin.info/www/bejne/hH2omZd7itatp9U *7yo* This is just my selection: *Senri Kawaguchi (川口千里) - "Onyx" - live concert* _(Serious & Professional)_ - kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5zLeJqnjd6qi5o Led Zeppelin - "Immigrant Song" - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bajPYoB5r9aBrs0 *Char - "Smokey"* _(the funky groove is almost ferocious 😉)_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4vCqHiNbdl8b7c The 16th Magazine Drummer Contest (General Course) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2abhJd6g8uKoq8 Dragon Ball GT _(Anime TV series)_ - "DANDAN Kokoro Hikari" - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hH2camOva5irY7c *8yo* This is just my selection: *Stray Cats - "Rock This Town"* _(Exuberant Joy)_ kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2m7Xn13f5x2eNk _Jim Phantom, the Stray Cats drummer played kick/bass+snare+cymbal standing up._ Led Zeppelin - "Communication Breakdown" - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIiQq4SBfLSoo6M *9yo* All her 9yo covers are great. Enough said. *Radiohead - "2 + 2 = 5"* (I like Radiohead 😁) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWGvdq1odt2gj8k *11yo* All of her 11yo covers are superb and amazing. This is just my selection of some of them: *Cream - "Sunshine Of Your Love"* - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnaloaRmgJx6pck _IMO her drumming is more upbeat to match the title "Sunshine Of Your Love" than the original studio or live recordings._ Deep Purple - "Burn" - kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5ndiWyHl61moNU Led Zeppelin - "Black Dog (Live 1972)" (watch 'till fade) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4iZqoOro7F3obc Deep Purple - "Speed King" _I prefer this to Burn, more dynamics_ - kzbin.info/www/bejne/boS2gniVi798iMk *Led Zeppelin - "Achilles Last Stand" (10m41s)* - kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5CQkIl3p96sn6M _Over 10 minutes, yet she isn't breathless, stressed or tired; she looks completely calm and relaxed._ Rainbow - "Kill the King" - kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6nVeYtmpNaJm6s Jamiroquai - "Space Cowboy" _Funky_ - kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2qzaaqXqs-Mnq8 Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, Silk Sonic - "Leave The Door Open (Live)" - kzbin.info/www/bejne/d32cp6KXncydatU Oasis - "Don't Look Back In Anger" _very tasteful_ - kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWWno52bhqehmbc *12yo?* Yoyoka has done a cover from home after her 12th birthday (maybe she's 11yo in this). *Radiohead - "15 Step"* (4m10s) _she's 'dancing' and smiling, nice_ - kzbin.info/www/bejne/panHlWmvhLCtrg _I like Radiohead. This sounds bouncier than the original, either studio or live. Maybe in my top 5._ *_Remote Collaborations_* are all superb *10yo* Mr. Big - "Take Cover" / Billy Sheehan, Yoyoka & friends - kzbin.info/www/bejne/baDdqKaeltqFgNU _Billy Sheehan was the bass player for Mr. Big (top 20 rock bass player?). Paulie Z took over as the vocalist of SWEET (in 2017). Brandon Paul on Guitar._ *10yo* Ozzy Osbourne - "Over the Mountain" / with FRIENDS - kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZeWomOChcR2gNk _Paulie Z again on vocals. SATSUMA3042 on guitar (in his noodle restaurant). Koichi Terasawa on bass._ *11yo* Led Zeppelin - "Good Times Bad Times" / Cover featuring Paulie Z, Tony Franklin, Mr. Jimmy, Yoyoka - kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpOYmZefhM-optE _Tony Franklin was the bass player in The Firm, formed by Jimmy Page after Led Zeppelin. Mr. Jimmy is a Led Zep. cover expert, AFAICT seen by and recognised as such by Jimmy Page. Again Paulie Z on vocals._ *11yo The Beatles - "Here, There And Everywhere" / YOYOKA played all the instruments* kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZnCeZymq6p6p5o The first 2m14s are an ad for a guitar company. I assume a sponsor. Then up to 10m19s is Yoyoka creating all the music (she explains how she assembles a track in her Ed Shearen "Shape of You" video). So that URL skips to the finished music video. Her vocals are angelic. Rage Against the Machine - "Killing in the Name" is loved by many Yoyoka fans, but the lyrics are NSFW (I don't think she understands the words). Especially admired is the newer cover by Yoyoka, Yoyoka's Mum, her Aunty Madooon, and a family friend on guitar (not her Dad). It's recorded on iPad, so sound is sub-par. Her Mum is awesome, but the lyrics are NSFW. PS: She's been making her '"Yoyoka Drum Course' since she was about six. She explains drumming techniques, as well as how to practice, how to change drum heads, tune drums, her (17?) microphone set up for her covers, and how to balance the recording. In one of her covers, she also explains and demonstrates how she mixes the drums down with the song. She is more than 'just' brilliant at playing the drums, she is the 'complete package'.

Love you two expressing about Yoyoka! About the cowbell, it's been said, that she's so fast, that people have a challenge understanding how Yoyoka can be this extremely talented!!! And it's true!!! She's truly so great, that it's unbelievable, yet, she's that extremely talented! And the icing on the cake, is, she's pure sweet, fun, joy, and happy performing. And the cherry on top, is, she does this extreme quality on sooooooo many songs! How does she remember it all? I say Yoyoka, is one of the rare extreme genius' on Earth right now. She is amazing. Glad to know that there are children out there having their creative talent nurtured instead of spending hours in front of the TV or glued to their devices. She did teach herself drums by watching KZbin. I have seen a couple of examples of Akifumi (dad) patiently playing bass or guitar with "young" Yoyoka, and her brother Shido, to help with timing and encouragement. It is fun watching the Soma family. (it is very cool to see the playfulness between Yoyoka and her dad more recently. They have a great time!)

Another Yoyoka video "Yoyoka × Ryunosuke Yamagishi / Jam Session" was premiered today. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnO6mq2bdpqsqpo Yoyoka and a Japanese guitarist are *improvising* together. Each of the three 'jam sessions' has a different 'vibe'. AFAIK, recorded earlier this year while still 11yo. The guitarist was featured on Korean TV at the age of 9! He was a precocious 'front man': "Japanese kids band on Korean TV Part 1(Eng Sub)" kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZyXnWiOa9VmZqs His channel is "山岸竜之介 Ryunosuke Yamagishi" kzbin.info PS - maybe put "Yoyoka (8yo) ..." in this video's title. It _might_ get more attention.

Guy on the left knows nothing about music or drumming. Trying to call her out for faking the cowbell? Seriously. Dude. She plays it exactly like Bonham did. Right hand. Wow. Seriously embarrassing.

@Chris B. Wow, just because you know all about drumming, do not assume everyone else does. He didn't know where it was, he asked he got an answer and now he knows, perhaps someone else also learnt something. We didn't ever claim to be drum experts. Nothing to be embarrassed about here, just two guys watching a great drummer. Cheers

@My Practice Vids Haha, yup we know. We only recently found out who Pentatonix were and they have been around for 10 years. We get there eventually. Thanks for watching and we will have more coming soon.
