You're probably going to hear this until you get completely sick of us, but it can't be over stated. Duran Duran videos are really a must. They are a huge part of the success and longevity of this band. These guys embodied the term multimedia before it even existed. DD are a very artsy band, poetic lyrics and all. Most of their videos are works of art. Even their live shows always incorporate various blends of media. If you MUST stick with live performances, then I highly recommend you choose some songs from their concert film, "As the Lights go Down." A perfect blend of their live energy, musicianship and artistry. The Chauffeur, New Religion, Careless Memories and Girls on Film are great choices. You will get to see them in their prime when they ruled the world (no exaggeration)!

This live concert is over 20 years after the songs were first released. I personally enjoy the live performance(s), BUT to really understand what they were all about you really should check out their videos. If you insist on using just their live stuff, then check out their live stuff from around 1984-1986. Also, the original videos help explain some of their strange lyrical choices. And honestly, many of their lyrics are

I find it difficult to bring myself to click on Live versions anymore; well, I will start it but once the quality wanes, I'm out. The sound quality is rarely as good as just listening to the studio version, and you're right, the videos offer perspective into the song and the band's artistic bent. I hate when the audience sings along and the artist lets them. You can't understand the words fully (unless the reactor has lyrics pulled up on a different screen). I'm not going to say all Live versions suck (sometimes that's the only choice available especially with older artists from the 60's and earlier since videos in the current definition weren't a thing yet. She did a Live by Patty Loveless recently which was truly wonderful. It's all about the noise and audience control. I love "Britt Reacts" because she's very smart and I love her musical insights so I will always watch but just wish videos were shown more not just Live all the time.

The lead singer of Def Leppard once said the lyrics sounding good was more important than making sense. That being said, sometimes lyrics make sense only when you know a song's back story. Listen to Hey Man Nice Shot a couple of times. Then look up Bud Dwyer, then listen to the lyrics again for an "Oh sh_t" moment.

When it comes to Duran Duran, you should really start with the original video clips - they were very well known for being the first band to take music clips to the next level. As well as the fact that, although I still love em to this day, they really were at their peak between 82-85 when it comes to music, clips and live performances. Regarding Simon's vocals - he looks great but is getting on a bit - listen to his vocals from the 80s. Amazing singer and front man.

I love your reactions!! But especially to the 80s. As a Gen X'r I enjoy re-living my teenage life by watching your reactions and enjoying our music!! Thank you for taking me back to 7th grade with Rio! Duran Duran were so good looking - especially when you are 12 or 13! My bedroom walls were covered with posters - Duran Duran, Bruce Springsteen, Journey, Bon Jovi, Van Halen, U2, The Police, REO Speedwagon and the last goes on and on. It was so great being an 80s kid! Thank you again for your reactions!

For me, as a Brazilian guy who was born and raised in Rio, it's obvious! Surely they're talking about such a beautiful girl, with such an amazing body, full of sinuous curves - just like a river - just like Rio de Janeiro! ("rio", in English, means "river")! By the way, as far as I can remember, Duran Duran came to Rio to record "Rio"'s official music video, to record its videoclip when this song was released.

You might want to try “Come Undone” or “The Chauffeur” for some beautiful lyrics. First one is a bit more literal and came out in the early 90s. The second one is more metaphorical and has beautiful imagery and came out in the early 80’s.

"Does he mean the river, or does he mean the girl?" *shrugs* You'll never know. He'll never tell us. Duran Duran music is intoxicating soundscapes with infectious rhythms and uniquely oblique melodies that prod that itch you have to sing - but the lyrics are usually mysteries wrapped in enigmas and transformed into singable riddles. 🤷

I hardly ever, as in never really saw anyone reacting to these two geniuses. from The Milk Carton Kids. Their performances are stunning. Their stage act, absolutely brilliant. Intelligent comedy with world class musical performance. Their voices blend so well! They do a cover of "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd - kzbin.info/www/bejne/qp3Ld6CGq6aXm9U - absolutely beautiful. Their own material is even better. Simon LeBon was never a brilliant lyricist, and his singing never spectacular but he brought consistent enthusiasm, had great pop melodic sense, harmonised well with himself, and didn't take himself as seriously as some of his contemporaries who had much better voices like Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet or David Sylvian of Japan.
@aimeebella1 Жыл бұрын
I disagree. The imagery in many of his lyrics are some of the best “The Chauffeur” as a prime example. Some are just nonsense but it’s wordplay. As for his singing, I do believe it has improved and is very unique. He is not the best vocalist but his voice is a huge part of Duran Duran.
