I feel like a lot of pro-level pubs look weird because they are thinking one step ahead. Sometimes, the lanes look overly passive and easy because the players know their limits. Meanwhile, a lesser player would play more aggressive and get punished for it. For example, rtz might be completely uncontested in lane vs a Doom or whatnot, but then he leaves at level 5 because he knows he can't be there on level 6. To plebs, it looks like he's leaving a freefarm-lane, but he's actually just thinking one step further.

I come from Aikido in in my dojo theri attitude was, "fundamentals fundamentals fundamentals. You spend most of your time being thrown to the floor and learning how to stand back up. It sounds simple but your learn in your bones which way is up which way is down, how to receive force, how to give it, how to dodge while in free-fall. It's a bit like professional wrestling camp. My point is that we learned exactly what to feel . We learned how to not have to think about what we were doing, how to take a fall, swing a sword, etc. I appreciate your attempts to make your lessons visceral. To make your students feel the urgency of the game. Many of the lessons of aikido apply to any type of conflict and I hear your language echoed on the mat. You talk about lack of urgency. You talk about constantly trying to behave optimally from one moment to the next as a way to accumulate successes. You talk about accumulating successes as a path to victory. You talk about playing for one's self, such as thinking about personal risk reward as a reason to not charge into unwinnable fights. These are lessons in self assessment. I hear the fear in your voice when your lesson is, "it's simple and keep working on your fundamentals." The questions you ask yourself, such as, "How long will it take for them to realize this on their own?" "It's really that easy, why cant' they see it?" See the point is that this is what refinement is. It's the stripping away of the unnecessary. Your lesson, that you have learned and continue to learn and learn again is that the game is far far simpler than we fear. Let me leave you with something from Aikido that vaguely more concrete than all of the fluff I've said so far. In aikido, a practice born from fighting with and against swords, speed is of the essence. If you are fast enough, you can dance on the edge of a blade. If you're not fast enough, you're minced meat, presumably. You quickly learn that the quickest one can move is through falling. If you ant to move in a direction you learn of to fall in that direction. If you want to swing your blade quickly you fall towards your target and let your falling weight drag the your blade towards your opponent. In the end it all becomes falling, either falling towards your opponent or way from their strike. So in Dota, you should also be moving as though you're falling. Either falling into your opponents or away. Towards your farm and away from their ganks. Towards objectives you intend to take or back to defend the ones you opponent intends to take. Falling falling falling. That's how urgent you should feel like you'll falling where you have to be.

BSJ your content is seriosuly amazing. The way you can breakdown the game and explain these concepts is 10/10. Before watching your videos I was in the 4k MMR bracket for 3 years or so, and I'm serious here, almost everything I did in the game was pure instinct. Rarely I would consciously think about where to play on the map, how to respond to enemy pressure, etc. The most I would try to think about were lane matchups and draft, but what I thought was usually wrong anyways because I didn't think about these other important concepts. BSJ literally opened my eyes to Dota After I started to understand what he is talking about, and consciously thinking about things, it's like Dota became a different game. I'm currently 5.9k and still have over 50% winrate in the last 20 games, so still improving MMR. Thank you BSJ, honestly Valve should hire you to make some advanced in-game tutorial and guides

What matters is that you don't become a yes man who blindly follow commands of your teammates, you got to at least ask yourself in your head if the move is good or bad. That way, you still learn and improve your game sense which is gained mainly through experience. Since you are a support player, I guess you just have to accept that that role is naturally dependent so listening to your team would be much better than arguing.

@@fifi1957 One thing BSJ advised someone in one of his coaching session is to have everybody muted for a good number of games and do what you think is right. Make a decision yourself and make sure you have a reason for it. That way if it doesn't work out, you'll know the reasoning behind it and why it went wrong. But if you do what someone tells you to do not fully knowing why, it'll be hard to learn from it.

All the games I’ve won as a safe laner was won because I kept pushing offlane and then if they made a play bot I would tp and wipe them all.. the games where I don’t know what to do is because I ended up forgetting and running around all lanes not realising why .. all I thought was I see creeps I kill .. this is literally why I died as a carry playing around the safe lane past the laning stage . Thx Bsj.

BSJ what if you farm towards the AM lane ie. middle right neut camps x3/4 --> triangle --> puck / WD smoke tier 2 top into a quick chrono on AM then continue farming patterns or pressure top tower if it's up etc. Wouldn't this still be viable and still option 2? I ask this as I'd feel abit gutted if my chrono is off cd and im just hitting creeps mindlessly for a few minutes granted this play would need synergy / my team coming onboard but it'd still be farming while also reducing AM's farm?
@DARDYSKUXXFELLa
@DARDYSKUXXFELLa 4 жыл бұрын
@O K Well you don't have to catch the AM specifically but hope for the rotation to be on him either way you're still killing someone and increasing your impact rather then just jungling for 5 mins with ult off cd. that's easily 2 chronos you can help your team with isnt it?
@DARDYSKUXXFELLa
@DARDYSKUXXFELLa 4 жыл бұрын
@O K I just question it as nikobby's carry guide explains it's a good idea to fit in ur chronos into your farming patterns especially with a smoke when it's off cd. then carry on farming as usual after. I do agree with this as it feels like it's a waste otherwise, not saying you have to clip the AM but any core or even supports could lead to a team objective after like a tower or map control / wards placed in areas not accessible previously for sups etc. I'm in divine tier but so many different opinions conflicting i guess dota's complex no real right answer.

I wouldn't step to far away from that pool. I started out with wk terrorblade, naga, jugg, void, and kept expanding from there. When i was building it up I wanted to try and keep it somewhat rounded out, I wouldn't really call what I started with balanced but it was what i was comfortable with. But I don't really think it has too much to do with the heroes, just making sure you can comfortably play them so you can focus more on the game is the biggest. Having a very meta hero in your pool would definitely help but comfort will always trump trying to force in one that's meta. In short just keep your pool relatively small and make sure you are comfortable on them.

@@HoloValis Thanks captain obvious. I’m asking because his Q is ranged which is typically a great way to secure ranged creeps.

I dont know why i am still playing dota. Did placement matches and ended up 5-5. In 4 of the losses i had teammates intentionally trolling/sabotaging or just plain gave up after 2 min. How are you supposed to win matches like those? There sure is a swamp, because it doesnt matter if you play 100% perfect games if you have enemies on your team. Your content is great, and im really trying to improve. but it just takes so much effort playing in low mmr games.

I guess you are referring to stomp? It is when you beat the opponent in a very one sided game.
