I got into this habit, where I was watching influencers daily and became a compulsive consumer. I was maxing out Klarna, hiding the packages and lying about the contents, never satisfied with what I had. My collection jumped from 8 bottles to 54 in the space of a year and a half. I only stopped when someone close to me pointed out how unhealthy it had become (and it really had). It was hard to face at first. My cure was to go cold turkey. I have enforced a straight up ban on fragrance shopping for a year. I deleted Klarna off my phone and haven't used it since. I had to accept that there is a void and I filled it with a more meaningful hobby that won't make me broke :)
@CAEO4169 ай бұрын
All addictions are due to a void. We all internally feel this, to some degree, like we are not enough. I ended up with 400 bottles of nail polish due to watching influencers on KZbin. I also have a bathroom full of expired makeup. Some people try to fill this void with food, some gambling, some shopping….its all the same.

Wow how times have changed! When I was a young lady in the 80’s 90’s no one had collections. People had a few perfumes on their dressers of their favorite scents and didn’t buy another until they finished the bottle. Now these influencers have tried to normalize this idea of massive walls of perfume. And the way they try to get people to buy $200, $300…and up perfume like it’s no big deal! I love your channel though and never feel like you’re trying to push something on us. You’re just explaining your experience and love for a perfume. 🙂

I pay my all bills, ofcourse taxes, and household stuff, save almost 20-33% of my income monthly and have a strict shopping budget but within that budget I SPEND, and dont think twice and really enjoy. Shopping to me is a reward of the strict discipline, cooking all those meals at home, childcare when we dont call nanny ever, and work tirelessly to improve my home. So depends how we spend it :) I love my shopping time.

Wise words Rose! The reality is the product is actually the customer. Savouring what you have and exercising gratitude for it is a good tip. Rotate your fragrances. to keep it fresh. Unfollowed a lot of infuencers. They get paid for litterly every link you click on, and half of the stuff they don't even use themselves. I have ADD and it's a known thing that we hyperfocus on something for dopamine. One year it's shein orders, the next year it's perfumes.. I stopped shopping/blind buying in november because me and my bf bought a house so I'm proud of myself.💪🏼
@AzIllatos9 ай бұрын
I can really relate to what you say. I've been on a no-buy for a couple of weeks now, and in a way it's really liberating. It feels so good to get more use of what I already own. I think we really tend to forget about what we already have and it's worth to remind ourselves to redirect our attention to our own collection because it consists of items we once dreamt about and wanted. I try to fight the dopamine-hunger concerning new stuff. That rush wears off so quickly anyway and sometimes what remains after is only guilt.

Yep I got sucked into this trap , it does become addictive. In the end you only end up chasing bottles spending to much AND not taking the time to enjoy your fragrance. I realised quite quickly and snapped out of it sold a lot on ( at a considerable loss ). Now I very rarely blind buy if ever and sample shopping is my first port of call before I commit to a full bottle. Saved a fortune as I've found of all the samples I've tried I've only moved on to a full bottle two or three times. Most important thing though is enjoy your fragrance not acquiring fragrance for the sake of it.

Why buy so many full bottles at all? I have around 20 FBs of all time favorites that I rotate a lot (I wear more than I perfume a day - an office scent, an afternoon scent, and sometimes an evening scent if I go out). The rest are a few decants and lots(!) of samples - So actually I have a huge collection of more than 100 different scents at my disposal, that fits on one big shelf and doesn't break the bank. Whenever I finish a sample, I buy the next one. I don't suffer from FOMO, though I did buy a few discontinued/vintage scents for my pleasure and delight :) Btw, I never blind buy FBs or decants. I always try/test samples on my skin first. No need to be a big spender to enjoy the magical world of fragrances.

I live in the rural mountains and don’t have immediate access to most things. The way I purchase fragrances is first I get a sample, if I use up and love the whole thing, I will get a travel size if possible, and if I still love it once the travel is used up, I put it on a wish list and wait for a sale, and only buy things that are already on my wishlist. I’ve saved so much money this way. The fragrances I’ve had to de-clutter in the past were things I liked at initial smell and bought on impulse, or blind buys. I also don’t buy limited edition because I don’t want to fall in love with something and never be able to get it again, and I don’t like being pressured by scarcity mental games.
@RosesRosyLife9 ай бұрын

I don't buy limited editions either. In fact I'm not even interested in new releases, until they've become old enough for me to assume they might be more permanent additions to the brand's repertoire. There are so many "old" perfumes that I've not tried yet, that I'm not worried about running out of things to try.

I appreciate this, it was real. I had this problem with following home decor content creators and realized how many times I was going to homegoods, Target, TJ Maxx etc trying imitate what others had in their home. I had to stop following them for a while until I realized “I” was the problem. Same now with fragrance content creators, you’ll find yourself going down a rabbit hole. Now a lot of these sites allow you to use Klarna, after pay etc and you’ll find yourself maxing those out. I found myself at BBW/VS more than often and I was also using after pay on fragrances trying to get my collection like others. I remember back in the day you would just have a few fragrances on your dresser now it’s like a library shelf. You also have to be careful because most of these creators get commission on some of their products they’re reviewing, which most of the time I don’t really believe their review since it’s $ involved. Kudos for you for making this video, this hit home!!
