So, Ramen Joy doesn't exist. Cathy's infomercials for it didn't go over very well, which led to them never actually publishing the book. Basically they were going to print up the books after the informercials aired and they collected orders. But the number of orders received didn't outweigh the cost of the publishing run so it was all scrapped. "Ramen Noodle Recipes" is the closest you can get, which is essentially the second edition of the Ramen Joy book featuring a new name and some edits.

Honestly, this seems more like a recipe book for people who are on tight budgets and can't afford things like meat and graham crackers, but can afford ramen since it's incredibly cheap. I'm sure there's a way to make some good, unique meals out of ramen, but these just don't seem to be hitting the mark.
@julienicol92025 жыл бұрын
mjfsuperstar92 I think that the book probably costs more than what the actual recipe ingredients does. I think people on a tight budget should spend their money on other food instead of this weird as hell cook book. Yeah no one should waste their money no matter how much money they have on this cook book. Though I think it would be a good gag gift for my sister going off to university next year. Lol!😂
@jincyquones5 жыл бұрын
@@julienicol9202 That and replacing ingredients with ramen isn't really going to save you much money. You still have to buy the sauce and the cheese and the shells. You save maybe a few bucks on the ground meat? It's not worth it. Hell, one pack of ramen for 2 shitty smores... a box of graham crackers would definitely go a lot further.
@julienicol92025 жыл бұрын
Mr. V that’s what I intended to mean, I should have been more clear. I agree that normal ingredients would be much more worth the money than to substitute with strange combinations of ingredients. Again I apologize that I wasn’t clear. Thank you!😊

you may as well just buy a dollar box pasta and a dollar can of pasta sauce and try to church it up as best you can with some spices and seasonings. I mean one of the tricks to being broke and not having any food, is to not ruin the food you do have. If you're broke and you can't afford protein you eat beans and eggs.
@rndmcmmnt5 жыл бұрын
I think those recipes are for people with poor judgement. The only recipe where it kinda saved money was in replacing meat with noodles in the taco. And your better off there by just making a veggie taco. And hard shell tacos are very expensive when compared to a regular soft tortilla. In any other case it just replaced the flour based part. And flour is pretty cheap. Even store brand spaghetti are cheaper than ramen.
@teirdalin3 жыл бұрын

Hey Ian just a heads up. Dont use your metal silverware to stir stuff in your pan. Espically nonstick it will ruin you pans and you'll get bits of the pan coming off in your food. Use rubber/silicon cooking utensils so you don't ruin them. Love ya keep up the good work.

Also the pits of the pan are poisonous so you wanna be extra careful about teflon coated/non-stick stuff. You can also use wood or plastic cooking utensils on them as well. When you wash them you only want to use a plain sponge as well, nothing that would abrade the coating.

I don't understand why spaghetti sauce was even involved in this 'recipe' to begin with. Like why not season the Ramen with taco seasoning and then fry the noodles. Or why not just make real tacos.
@creatornat6 жыл бұрын
@strayiggyTV, that was what I was thinking-why not taco seasoning, or a bottle of taco sauce, or a can of enchilada sauce(if following the thought process of inexpensive/alternative home-made taco ideas)? I initially thought maybe there was an attempt by the cook book writer(I really wonder about who that was, or were) to make the concept as easy as possible-which I get. But how much harder is it to use a taco seasoning packet and add a little water? Maybe increasing effort by say, a single step over opening a jar of spaghetti sauce? Plus, spaghetti sauce is full of basil and other herbs which most people shopping a standard grocery store/dollar store consider 'American Italian'. Those herbs don't typically cross over into low-budget-Americana-tacos-the flavors are all wrong. Finally, I suspect that the book promotion is extremely low, due to customer complaints of poor tasting recipes and/or poor reception as a whole. I wish I had these answers, I am so curious now!

They've been around for well over half a century; likely longer. With the children and grandchildren of Italian and Central / South American immigrants mingling and breeding together in the US, Spaghetti tacos have been around since at least the 1950s. They just never caught on in the public as there's really no way to market it. Seriously, you're topping carbs (tortillas) with carbs (spaghetti). So as the world has become more health conscious, no restaurant that wants to succeed would even consider it. As such, it's just always remained one of those family dishes that some people make. Also, I personally would top these ones in the video with some lettuce and actual meat.
@sigh8246 жыл бұрын

@BorderHopperJ6 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the concept of these recipes at the very least. After all, when you're on a low budget, especially college students, some of these recipes COULD work, but they need to take advantage of the texture. Ramen tacos doesn't feel like one of them. You can just make a bean burrito without meat, which would probably equate to the same price. Ramen noodles just adds a weird unneeded texture. Also some of these recipes seem counterproductive like the beef pasta recipes. You can buy pasta pretty cheap, it's the BEEF that can be absurdly expensive, especially if you're concerned with organic. If you have the budget to buy beef, then why would you want to replace noodles with ramen in that case? I guess if you just had ramen lying around in general, but that's more situational than anything.
@PandaXs16 жыл бұрын
ramen gets chewy if you fry it, idk if he cooked it long enough with the sauce so of course it was mushy. also cooking pasta is usually a lot more involved, at least compared to ramen where you only need to cook it for 3 minutes and not even have to drain.
@vicquinn76116 жыл бұрын
Border Hopper J it looks gross
@Blacknight88506 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but the thing is, this is five extra ingredients to go with the ramen, all for one meal. If students can afford that, they can afford a slightly better noodle. The Teriyaki suggestion is the one that really blows my mind, though - you're basically making a stir-fry taco, especially since "fry vegetables, add cooked ramen" is so much simpler and cheaper? These maniacs really do seem to be doing it for the watery, chewy taste of that sub-$1 ramen.
@LaydiNite6 жыл бұрын
No offense, but if you're concerned about food being organic, you should be staying away from the cheap instant ramen anyway...
@BorderHopperJ6 жыл бұрын
LaydiNite Oh, no doubt. I was just pointing out that beef, in general, can be ridiculously expensive which contradicts what I assume is the point of this cookbook in the first place.

For an actual good ramen recipe, make a topping for traditional or Asian inspired coleslaw. Melt a shit ton of butter on low heat, crush a bag of ramen and add to the butter (optional: add almond slivers), cook until the butter is absorbed and the ramen is crispy. Add the seasoning packet or replace with your own seasonings. Let cool and top onto coleslaw, salad, or just snack on it Another one is just add a soft to medium boiled egg (marinated in soy if you have the time), veggies, hot sauce, chives, cilantro, hot oil or sesame oil, or whatever you want really. The best way to enjoy ramen is just to dress it up with things you already have in your fridge I highly recommend reading the recipe book "Prison Ramen." The recipes are pretty hit or miss, but the real life prison stories in it are worth the purchase alone. It's also a really beautiful book
